Somethings About Dylan Cozens Thread

I watched all of the world juniors and what I really liked about this kid (and I've read similar things about him) was his attitude and what seemed like genuine enjoyment. He goes right in front, bumps, grinds, takes a hit, gives it back, and all the while smiles and just plain loves it. Feeds off of the contact even. If this carries through to the pro level he is truly what we need desperately, and if he brings it, maybe it'll catch on.

He was giving a 10 day rest after the WJC. Cozens currently has 24g, 29a, for 53 points in 33 games. That is a 1.61ppg pace for the season. Pretty good.

Who's got the factors for how that pace would translate to the NHL?

Interesting too is that in Reinhart's 3rd WHL year (his draft season) he had 1.75ppg and in Cozens 3rd WHL year (his draft +1 season) he has 1.61

Reinhart was 19 for most of his draft season, November birthday.

Cozens turns 19 more than halfway through his draft +1 season.

Different playing styles but they do have similar numbers.

They are only 3 months apart in age so idk how much it is impacting things.

No, Reinhart was 18 for most of his draft season.  19 for most of his draft+1 season.  I think you are off by a calendar year.

Thanks for the correction.

Sam was a bit older than his draft peers due to the late birthday. The majority of the picks in his draft year were 1996 kids, that is where I got mixed up.

I was looking at Kirby Dach’s stats, 7G 7A this season with the Blackhawks. He was comparable to Cozens in junior. Many people would be complaining if the Sabres had kept Cozens and he was producing those numbers.

What I’m trying to say is that Reinhart was drafted a year later than a lot of his peers. He was born in 1995 but was drafted in 2014 due to his late birthday (Nov.). He was 19 in November 2014, one month after the season started. His draft year, 14-15 was mainly as a 19 year old.

But it’s not true.  2014-15 wasn’t his draft year.  His draft year was 2013-14.  He turned 18 early in the season of his draft year, not 19.

Reinhart does have an early-ish birthday for his draft year, but nothing out of the ordinary.  The cutoff date is September 15th.

Sam was born November 6, 1995.  He turned 18 on Nov 6, 2013.  He was drafted in June of 2014.  He was 18 when he was drafted.  He was 18 when he made his NHL debut in October 2014.  He turned 19 on November 6, 2014.

No players turn 19 during their draft season.  They are all 18, or 17 when drafted.  Assuming they are picked the first year they are eligible.

I’m just saying that most of the guys in Sam’s draft year were born in 1996. He was born in late 1995 so his eligibility was 2014 draft.

Eichel, McCabe, Risto were all older when drafted than Reinhart.  Draisaitl, the guy picked just after Reinhart, is older.

Reinhart was not uncommonly old when drafted.  He was almost 2 months from the cut off date.

I respectfully request that we do not pile everything about one player into a single thread. His contract, his development, injury status, charity work, whatever... are all distinct topics that deserve their own space.
