The bed he made was made by the GM before him and the owner as well.  Let's be real about that.

Who says they didn't?  Free agents are under no obligation to sign in Buffalo. What does Buffalo have to trade?  Would you have traded away the Cozens pick?

It's quite possible that Frolik gets a better shot in Buffalo at improving his numbers and he gets bounced to another team at the trade deadline.  Scandella wasn't going to be here next year... Frolik doesn't need to be here next year.

You think Scandella warrants more than that?  Not a chance my friend.

Maybe not, still a joke though.

You wanted a top-6 for Scandella?

Yeah, me too, but then I remembered that this is real life.

Well, this is still a very bad trade.

Gotcha.  But couldn’t we try for more than 1?  Especially coming off the decade er season we did last year?  Was one forward upgrade going to really be enough?

I think anyone with a pulse knew the Sabres forward depth was going to be an issue.  The reliance on Mitts, Tage or whomever else JNOT thought was going to fill the bill was an egregious error.  It's why they are where they are.  They needed 2 more scorers.  Relying on Sobotka for anything other than carrying the bags was also a the top of errors this off-season.  Hopefully, he's learned something.

You make the moves you can make.  Assuming there is something else out there is dangerous..

Not only that, but the Sabres have nothing to trade.  They have a surplus of mediocre players.  You aren't going to get superstars for them.  So you try and trade mediocre player A for mediocre player B and hope that the situation the guy ends up in on your team helps him improve some amount more.

They are little transactions, but sometimes that's all that can be made.

No I wouldn’t have.  Go back and take a look what Vancouver gave up for JT Miller.

Well we’re both on the same page here.  But why does he not try to make another move or four after seeing this blow up in his face during the 18/19 season?  He had all friggen offseason with a plethora of nhl caliber D at his disposal for trade.

Tampa doesn't play Vancouver 4 times a season.

Which goaltender was Buffalo giving up?

I would assume that Buffalo would have to pay more.  Not only that, they are giving Tampa a first round pick.. that doesn't help Buffalo out in the long run either.

I'll give Frolik credit, on paper he looks ok. 3rd line lw level of okay.

Reading through Flames fan boards, he seems to be a fan favorite as a hard working role player

having a tough year offensively but maybe a change of scenery will help

wow, lol.. bottom 6th for scandella, what a fkn joke

Wow   How can you think he’s worth anything more than that    I’d say getting a 4th for him was more than he is worth

Yea i get it what your talking about but its still a very very bad trade, trading for another erod is pathetic to say the least. I dont like this trade at all.
Making a trade just to make a trade is not the way to go, either you wait until something way better comes up, even if it doesnt contain scandella in the deal, or you dont make a trade at all, this is just bad, so so bad.

Is he  better than Sobotka? Because we were at the top of the standings and Skinner was scoring on a line with Sobotka.

Just sayin...

He's a Sobotka. But with higher scoring upside. For a 4th, sure. He can log time with Skinner and Sobotka out and ERod upset.

It also means that Bogosian is playing every game --- and frankly, Scandella was playing better than Bogo this year. So we've downgraded our defensive depth for another milquetoast

Not according to Calgary fans. He's a defensive forward/pk specialist. I've read some and inquired, he's really helped Tkachuk's defensive game from every Calgary fan who responded.

PK is a Sabres weakness, a defensive forward to help it, in exchange for Scandella? Sure, why not...…………….if it does indeed workout that is.

Another E-Rod?  Not even a chance..

I think Frolik is an improvement over Rodrigues in every way.  He's stuck around the league and is playing at 31, something Rodrigues will be lucky to ever do.

If he kills penalties and is a good mentor to young guys the rest of the year (and if he pots 7 goals in the second half which appears to be be his recent average), and all he needed was a change of scenery, then it'll be good. I mean --- ideally --- he solidifies the middle 6 and gives us some flexibility to sit Sheary/Vesey/Asplund or whomever isn't up to snuff. (I'd say Sheary, because I like Asplund's potential.)

We'd assuredly be better off with near point a game, 26 year old 2C JT Miller making 5 mil than we would be with Ryan Johnson, project long term ceiling bottom 4 defender.

No your just upset. It’s not the sabres fault for being irrelevant in a salary cap era for the last decade.  Eye roll.

What if it was for 13 goal, 47 point, JT Miller?

Im shocked as heck that he is putting up the season that he is.
