The Sabres have put me in a dark (sports) place, and Jack's demeanor through all of the last two seasons is something that's keeping me away from the edge of the (sports) cliff. I am very grateful for him on many levels

3v3 might not be hockey, but it's guaranteed entertainment

Ya. There's a tinge of "we need to be better" that I get after the initial excitement ebbs away, seeing how good Jack is and hoping we aren't putting his season to waste. He's on another level.

It's a bad strategy. Glad it worked, but having Lazar on the ice 3v3 is likely a loser over time.

Nah. Jack is incredible, but McDavid is more dominant in every way.

Not defensively.

For the record, I don't think these numbers mean anything at all.

But they combine with the continued malaise of each franchise (and Jack's fantastic abilities) to make me far less pained that we lost that lottery than I ever imagined being.

Well, they mean Eichel has played better than him head to head. Eye test matches the stats.

Curtis gives 100% each shift. And he gets a big goal to get team back into it and his reward is the least amount of ice for any forward?

And for about the 5th game in a row, Johansson was instrumental in generating scoring chances.  (Though in 2 of the games nobody could finish any of them.)  Have no idea what the nagging injury he was dealing with was, but if finally seems to be over.

Eichel and McDavid are both incredible players and we won so I'm happy.

Hope Olafsson is ok

McDavid is the more consistent better player but I'd be lying if I said Eichel has never, for a game or two, surpassed him.

McDavid is a true generational talent.

Eichel is probably borderline generational seeing as he has the ability to literally carry our team to some amount of relevance.

How are McDavid's stats against Colorado? I'm curious if McDavid has a general problem against the only two other 1Cs who could actually keep pace with him. It would certainly make sense.

I'm not an advanced stats junkie but from what I've read, Jack's (and Matthews') defensive numbers are much better this season than both McDavid's and Draisaitl's. Jack is still improving his 2 way game but he's improved substantially on the defensive side of things especially back checking, I think he's a better defensive player than McDavid right now, so I don't agree he's better than Jack in every way at all. Though obviously McDavid is in fact the best player in the league overall.

If Jack continues separating himself from Connor at that end of the ice, and keeping it pretty close offensively (like he is this year), I can't rule out a situation where (not that it really means anything, especially in a sport like hockey) Jack is the better player "head to head" between the two. Bigger, stronger. Similar to what Gretzky said about Lemieux.

Those stats don’t make McJesus a better goal scorer than Jack.

They literally do. McDavid and Eichel absolutely score differently, and Jack has a better shot, but if scoring more goals doesn't make one a better goal scorer then I have no idea what does. It's not like McDavid is scoring butt goals.

I want a player who exclusively scores that way

I could make 300 chocolate cakes in a year with a couple assistants. You could make one by yourself in the same time period. Doesn’t necessarily mean I’m better at making chocolate cakes than you.

He has 23 points in 13 games against Colorado. I would suspect it has more to do with collective team defense than the 1C of the other team. And Larry seems to play him well quite a bit

Also I just looked and the Sabres and Predators are the only teams that have held him under a point per game in his career. We own McDavid's lowest point per game mark in the entire NHL.

Because Jack is the captain and the captain obviously cares a liiiiiitle more about these games, and the players respect their captain and will play for him. I think it's a small chip Jack keeps on his shoulder, same with the Matthews games.

Didn't think of Skinner once during the game. Not sure what that means

Nor did I.  I guess I'm in the "next man up" mentality.  BTW, we give JBOT a lot of crap, deservedly so, but Lazar was a stellar move that got barely a notice in the off season.

I remember Teddy Purcell (someone who trains with Jack or something) on Spittin' Chiclets this fall or summer mentioning that Jack's shot got a lot better this summer. I dismissed it as things anyone would say about the guy they train with. But he was right. I wonder what Jack did. He's absolutely nailing that spot 2 feet off the ice, just inside the goal post this season.
