Buffalo is not linked to this but why aren't we?

"Chris Johnston says on SN650 that the Leafs aren't actively looking to move Kapanen or Johnsson because they like them as secondary pieces of the core but if a team dangles a good enough defenseman, they could be convinced." Via Twitter

Two reasons:

It's Toronto and dealing within division is always a risky venture; nor would I trade in division since I'd rather us have too many D and them have too few than help them become a more complete team.

Dubas is an analytics junkie and is likely no interested in many of our willing to trade Dmen

We should have traded them Erod and Sherry when their analytics showed they were good but the eye test told us they were awful

Because Toronto would have snatched those two up like a crackhead(ex mayor...poor guy) snatches anything that looks like a rock out of the carpet?
