I think we should trade for good players instead, rather than using our limited assets to acquire bad players.

Eh, trading for a Vesey level guy while giving up Bogosian or Rodrigues isn't wasting assets IMHO.  The value they'd end up with at the end of the day wouldn't be any lower than it was at the start of the day and you MIGHT catch lightning in the proverbial bottle.  And even if they don't hit on the trade they should end up w/ the marginally more valuable player.

The only possible legit drawback to such a move is that suddenly Botterill would be going from sitting on his hands to becoming "Trader Phil."  And the moves, though they may have worked in a vacuum, don't end up working out because these guys aren't here long enough before the trade deadline (or even July 1 for that matter) to determine whether the guy is actually a fit on the team before they have to make a decision on whether to try to keep him.

If they could get Galchenyuk for an impending UFA on this roster, would be willing to make the trade.  Wouldn't give up a legit prospect for such a low (expected) value lottery ticket.

I long for the day when keeping the better player is the chosen strategy, simply because the foremost goal is winning hockey games. Rather than anything winning seemingly being a happy afterthought.

That is the strategy, but Sheary is gone after this season and this season is already over from a making the playoffs point of view.  So now the goal is making the team better long-term and if I can use Sheary to get a more talented player back who could fill a need for us long-term I will.

We aren’t getting him for Bogosian. No one wants Bogosian.

The goal should still be winning. It’s f*ckin’ JANUARY.

Maybe we’ll finally start winning more when everyone top to bottom organizationally is understanding of that fact that winning games right now is the paramount focus. They have to make that choice. But any year the GM CAN punt things back, he of course will. Job security is now paramount.

And apparently nobody wants Galchenyuk either.

If they can't get him for scraps, then don't bother.  If they can, can't see the harm in it.

The asking price is believed to be either a draft pick or a bottom-six forward. He’s UFA July 1 and carries a $4.9-million cap hit.

Then we will give them 2 bottom 6 forwards...….

Evan Rodrigues $2 mil AAV RFA and Connor Sheary $3 mil AAV UFA.

Quick, to the Bat Phone...………………….

Toxic locker rooms and changing the culture. Not gonna be a step forward bringing guys like this in.

Bring in guys with a work ethic. Guys who don't quit.

All kidding aside, this is exactly what is needed here in Buffalo imo as well.

Throw ERod over the wall.

I would guess that Pittsburgh wants a bottom-6 forward who is not a FA after this season -- so that rules out most of the Sabres' bottom 6.

What about RFAs?
