It’s looking more and more like Bogo is going to be that veteran defenceman we pick up for the stretch run.

Assuming he were able to play after the trade deadline, there are no longer limits to how many players can be up provided they are under the cap, so that would at least temper the question of who has to be sent down should he ever be healthy enough to play.

But if he's got a stall in the dressing room, how long does he skate on his own before he's back?  1 month? 2?

By the time Montour and Bogo are ready to play, we may have some dinged up Dmen.  I know a lot of people are down on Bogo but I think the Sabres need all the defensive depth they can get.

Yep if this season goes as we all want it to, come time for that final playoff push a healthy & fresh legged Bogo could be just what we need at that crucial point in the season. Especially since injuries are gonna happen at some point (even though they won't since i don't want to jinx anything). But having more healthy players at your teams disposal is never a bad thing imo.

And for those Bogo naysayers, everyone's been down on Okposo prior to this season, including myself. And he's played well with RK's new system. Who's to say Bogo won't do better in RK's system as well? Depth is a very good thing to have!

Let's assume Risto is not traded and Miller, Montour, Joki are all healthy. Where are you playing Bogo?

Bogo isn't healthy today & won't be for quite some time. But when he is the health status of those players could be different at that time, so that would be a decision to be made then of course.

But hypothetically if he were healthy right now (even though Montour in your question isn't ready to play right now either) I'd imagine RK would make an assessment based on how Bogo looks in practice to see if he'd be an upgrade over anyone. I would also expect a conditioning assignment in Roch prior to him being in the lineup, if theres time left in the season for that. Its hard to hypothesize these things because we just don't know what Bogo's time frame is.

I can't really just pick a player willy nilly because thats just not how any coach would/should do things imo.

the veteran defenseman with zero playoff appearances?

I know right? People keep saying this and yet we have Miller on the team with 30 playoff games under his belt with barely a mention.

Montour has 21 playoff games.

Marco Scandella has 34 playoff games.

Always overlooked by some/many around here is that he also sucks really, really bad.  But I guess the best way to get rid of him for good is to play him, so there's that.

How is this even relevant?

Teams with perfectly good defence corps look to add defencemen at the trade deadline to create the depth needed to make a playoff run, no matter how experienced their blueline.

Miller and Scandella are already here and Montour will join them soon.

Bogosian coming back in the New Year will have same effect as trading for the likes of Ron Hainsey or Ben Lovejoy at the deadline without sacrificing a pick.

Shouldn’t have to be explained to anyone who lived through the Janik/Jillson/Fitzpatrick fiasco.

I still don't Bogo to suit up this year.
