I saw a tweet today from Don Luce that he was at a showing of this documentary. I can't find anything about where it was held or future showings. There's a website — fanconnectionmovie.com — but my browser doesn't like it.

I'm intrigued.

The website appears to be out of date.  The most recent update, as far as I can tell, was in April 2018 and they were getting to the final edits.

No word on showings, or anything.

I'll send you a PM with Don's number.  I suggest you call him.

Well, thanks but you probably shouldn't do that. We're intrigued though... you know Don Luce?

I contributed to the kickstarter campaign for this documentary so I get updates from time to time.

Apparently they are planning on going to some festivals soon and release in 2019. I'm a bit skeptical given how long they've been at it (funded in Nov 2015!) but I'd think it will eventually be completed.

Probably the work as it exists right now.

"Following a successful Kickstarter campaign in November of 2015, the director began editing in early 2016 to craft the movie's story from the personal lives of fans, the ups and downs of a hockey season, and the resurgence of the city of Buffalo. Cutting 1,000 hours down to 90 minutes is no easy task. It's been a two-year process to sift through the footage and whittle the cut down to a 6-hour assembly.

"As the story takes shape with each cut down, the plan for 2018 is to complete the entire post production process (editing, sound mixing, score, color, closed captioning...) and ready to movie for film festival submissions."

It's a part time gig for both of them; they both have "real jobs."

Sure, I wasn't intending the comment to be critical. Might have come across that way. I understand it's part time. As a non-trivial level fund provider of the endeavor I just wish they had either made clear this was a 4+ year journey and/or figured out how to align resources to get it done in, I don't know, maybe two years?

I still hope to be at the opening of it in Buffalo one day.

I am the director of the film.  It was accepted into the Film Festival of Columbus and will screen there on Sept. 12th at noon at the Gateway Film Center (tickets on sale through the Film Festival of Columbus website).  It was also accepted into the Buffalo International Film Festival and will screen at the North Park Theatre on October 12th around 1:15PM.  BIFF is finalizing their schedule and the exact time should be announced soon, and tickets will also be on sale soon.

I hope to see you there!

We had a great turnout at the North Park and won the Audience Award for the Buffalo International Film Festival.  That garnered interest and we're having a second Buffalo screening at the Screening Room Cinema and Cafe on Tues., Nov. 26th at 7:30PM.
