Not necessarily.  In reality only OLED displays will benefit from this.  Other LED screens need to use the LED to generate the "black" so they are still on and therefore still using battery.

Not that I don't like night modes.. I happen to.  But the battery savings aspect isn't always there.

Since it’s a sabres board can it be navy blue (for one year anyway)? Or does that defeat the purpose of a night mode?

 

edit: And if you’re looking for examples where night mode might not work, table a look at the first post in today’s game day thread. Maybe it’s just the poster’s choice of font color, but it’s a tough read.

I still have mixed feelings about night mode. I like the darker background with lighter font color. I’m just not sure I like black or very dark backgrounds. To me, the point is to prevent the lighting up a dark room with a phone screen. So, there’s different ways to accomplish this besides black background and white text. I wonder how a dark blue background with yellow font would look like.

I'm guessing that a yellow font wouldn't be too easy on the eyes.
