Game 2:  Home opener.... here we go!  Is Ralph Krueger magic?  Find out tonight.  The KBC should be rockin', giving the Sabres a boost.

Hopefully McCabe turns in another great performance.

This could be Jack's breakout; let's see Skinner get on the scoresheet too.

New Jersey is coming off a hard OT loss (home against Winnipeg) from a couple of hours ago.  Right now, they're probably on an airplane, and likely won't get to their hotel rooms until about 2am.

This is the type of game that a playoff caliber team, at home and with rest, would win.

The home opener for the boys after playing an awesome game against the Penguins on the road Thursday. How awesome was it you ask??

  1. Team defense was the best we've seen in years
  2. Secondary scoring
  3. Although it didn't get much pub, that Dahlin goal was nothing short of sick for a Dman
  4. No cries of trade Risto
  5. No cries from the analytics boys that yes we won but we still sucked
  6. No send Casey to Rochester posts in GDT afterward
  7. Even Thorny conceded after 3 page argument that Sobotka can stay on 2nd line if we continue to win

Other Sabre info for this day:

  • This is the first of three meetings between the Sabres and Devils this season.
  • Last meeting: New Jersey defeated Buffalo 3-1 in New Jersey on March 25
  • Next meeting: Monday, Dec. 2 in Buffalo
  • The Sabres are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games vs. the Devils; 4-5-1 at home.
  • This is the 158th game all-time between Buffalo and New Jersey; Buffalo has a 76-55-26 series record.
  • The Sabres are 41-27-11 at home against the Devils all-time.
  • The Sabres are 4-3-2 all-time on October 5.
  • October 5, 2005: Thomas Vanek records his first NHL point with an assist in his NHL debut, a 6-4 win vs. NY Islanders.
  • The Sabres are 21-20-7 all-time in their first home game of the season. Buffalo is looking for its first win in a home-opener since the team’s 5-2 win vs. Philadelphia on Jan. 20, 2013.
  • The Sabres have previously opened their home schedule against the Devils once in franchise history, a 2-1 win on Jan. 25, 1995 featuring Sabres goals by Donald Audette and Wayne Presley and a 29-save performance by Dominik Hasek.

With 50th Anniversary, IMO the greatest Centers in Sabre History:

Other news, NJD blew a 4-0 lead yesterday and lost in Shoot Out to the Jets last night. Cory Schneider was also injured in the game and my guess is he'll miss the game today. Blackwood looked shaky in the game and the Devils looked strong in the forward group but had an awful time with the Jets forechecking game in the 3rd period. Maybe keys to the game tonight. Let's hope the boys take advantage tonight.

I am curious to see if we play the same sort of style in this one or if Kreuger adjusts it for the opponent. NJ plays a different game to Pittsburgh and Kreuger says he "lives the game" and adapts to the opponent so I am very intrigued to see what we do.

Yeah I watched the Jets vs them last night and the NJD style is also a fast paced play on your toes game.

That new russian guy Gusev looks like he is the real deal for NJD. Probably playing with Hughes too.

Both those players looked good last night. I didn't pay much attention to what other teams did off season but except for their goal tending they look like they may a good team this year.

Good first home game test of the Sabres new found hockey style.

Lets Go Buff-a-lo !

Show us some running with the devil.

5-2 good guys tonight.

Sabres make Devils look like a junior B team, everyone says the score should have been much worse. Fans go nuts during the white out and Jack Eichel says “you know, it was just a lot of fun playing out there” after the game.

Gusev is an interesting story.  He’s 5’9”, 163 lbs, making his NHL debut at age 27 and led the KHL in scoring last year.

Separately, I think Hutton will and should get the start tonight.

Go Sabres.

Perspective is everything! Need this game to see if our team is for real, or that Pittsburg was just the over the hill gang.

* I’d like to see the power play be a big factor and lead the way. Get er done!

* Be nice to see if our long lead passes continue. Was Pitts defense just slow and pathetic or is the system just that good?

* I’m guessing NJ has more team speed than Pitt had so this might be a decent test to see how our defense handles that.

* No games this early in the season are must win, but the home opener against a not so good team, new coach, big win the other night, they really need to back up their opening night win with a win here. A loss would be a really bad sign.

Go Sabres!

from wgr: Many former captains will be in attendance for the game including Gerry Meehan, Gil Perreault, Danny Gare, Stu Barnes, Brian Gionta, Michael Peca, Mike Foligno, Floyd Smith and Craig Rivet.

They should invite some of them up to the booth to chat. Love to hear what they are up to.
