We didn’t grab any value guys. Just because they signed $700K deals doesn’t mean they’re “value.” It just means they’re not NHL players.

It’s no different then loading up on draft choices. You fill Rochester spots and hope for that one outlier. If 15 or 16 years ago we had signed Daniel Briere instead of acquiring him in a trade, the reaction would have been the same.

Briere was coming off two seasons of 32 and 24 goals. 60 and 58 points.

Throw enough darts and some of them will eventually pan out. The volume shooter approach to team building.

For the record, I'm fine with the approach when it comes to filling out depth positions, I'm just not too keen on this volume approach when selling off important roster players.

No, google again. He scored 32 and had 17 with Phoenix before being traded. He was minus 20 and 21 when people cared about that stuff and if I remember correctly, Phoenix sent him down due to his defensive play. He was consider a one way, too small forward when acquired and his arrival was meant with a big yawn.

Can confirm. Although I recall him doing some stuff just prior to the lockout, where I was, like, whoa this little Frenchie can ball!

He's probably afraid of his new place getting egg'd or his brake lines getting cut or something. Hell hath no fury like a Buffalo fan scorned.

Maybe he is just the type of person who could be bounded in a nutshell, yet considers himself a king of infinite space!

Just wait until he doesn't score the first 10 games out of the box.

It's a good thing he doesn't have kids. I think it was Mike Mularkey who said part of the reason he left was because they were bullying his kid in school or something like that. Must have been Junior Bills Mafia.

You're miles off here comparing anybody we just signed to Daniel Briere prior to his acquisition. 32 goals, 60 points in the season before we acquired him. He had 17-29-46 in 68 games before we acquired him (a pace of 21-35-56). He played 78 games the season before and 82 the season we acquired him. He definitely wasn't sent down at any point during those two seasons.

Nobody we acquired in free agency has established themselves as NHL players. They've all established themselves as non-NHL players. They're all extreme longshots to become anything of consequence in Buffalo.

Also: plus/minus is a joke stat.

it's just my point of view, but i live in Phoenix and when we made the trade, I told my friends we just stole a future star. He was very talented, young and trying to earn a full time spot. I thought the Coyotes made a huge mistake at the time of the deal.

I don’t doubt that being you watched him. In Buffalo no one knew anything about him. Like Aud confirmed, it was.a nothing deal at the time but he quickly changed minds.

Much the same way with Peca. Remember fans saying "who's Michael Peca?"

I'd imagine that people paid a bit more attention to Peca though, groaning about that deal.  That's completely understandable when you're talking about sending Mogilny out of town.  There's not all that much concern when Chris Gratton is sent packing.

Better example.

Just as bad. Michael Peca was going into his age 21 season. Michael Peca is a good comparable for guys like Tage Thompson, not the guys we just signed.

Also, you're ignoring the lack of information people had access to when guys like Peca and Briere were added. They simply aren't comparable to what the team has done this offseason. We now have information on these guys and know they're not NHL players. If we had the internet back when Briere was acquired fans would've been ecstatic to add a young 30-plus goal scorer.

Only those that didn't play fantasy hockey.  He was a serious PP specialist.

Uhm, when did you get "the internet"?  I had it then. Much like today, it offered pornography and a plethora of ways to waste time.

You consider pornography a waster of time?  And we're supposed to take you seriously?

Actually, he's on his 3rd coach anyway. Vigneault, Quinn, and now Krueger.
