Plus, as we know with Bogo, this is a 5-6 month recovery time. This was his last off season to train before he starts his professional career. I think Roch is counting on him as their #1 next year so this is....not good.

Better than playing injured for years like Bogo. Ullmark had hip surgery once too. Better to get it done now and recover.

That Aud Smell
Given how much, in what manner, and how intensively an elite-level young goalie is apt to have trained nowadays, it surprises me not at all when they need repairs to their hips at a young age. Swedesessed
Can this off-season get off to a worse start for the Buffalo Sabres? I hope UPL makes a full recovery!

LGR4GM
Everyone should calm down. He wasn't going to be a Sabre in October anyways.
Derrico
No but this is one of our top prospects and hopeful answer to our goalie issues in a couple of years. It's a big deal him not being able to train all offseason. Does he even start as the #1 in Roch with little training? This could set his development back atleast half a season and thus that much further from being a Sabre.
Ogelthorpe
So both Rochester goalies next year will be coming off major injuries? 3 young goalies come into the Sabres system and have hip problems, sounds like a strength and conditioning program problem. Andrew Allen needs to be shown the door, possibly training staff too,.
Formerly Allan in MD
Next thing someone will post is that Buffalo's a hip town. ?
...
Anyone know what type of injuries these may be, what the fix is, and if that fix is practical for an athlete?

Doohickie
My guess is that young hockey players are training hard enough that they injure themselves. They're not going to stop because the ones that train that hard are the ones that get noticed and move up. NHL prospects trashing their hips are probably like MLB pitching prospects needing Tommy John surgery (which is getting pretty common, and actually the surgery often makes them a stronger pitcher). Just wondering why Johansson would not be in Rochester? He played extremely well in Cinci and played well in Rochester when they brought him up.
