Baseball HOF

I have no problem with the 3 pitcher, but how does Martinez make the Hall and McGriff and Helton don’t.

Martinez was a very good hitter, but can’t hold McGriff jock as a baseball player.

Compare their stats

.312 2247 hits 309 HR 1261 RBI over 18 years

.284 2490 hits 493 HR 1550 RBI over 19 years

Crime Dog will get in on the Veterans Committee (or whatever they're calling it these days) within 5 years. That's my bet. He got hosed.

Bonds still not getting in is ridiculous.

The ol' steroids debate. I have no real reason for justifying it, other than he just won't admit it and he has a record he doesn't deserve, but I hope he never gets in

McGriff got hosed because his numbers get overlooked because of the Steroid era. Bonds had the talent and numbers to get in without the roids.  To bad he went the other way.  He, Clemens etc... will all get in eventually.

Ah that makes sense. And agreed on both accounts for Bonds and Clemens. I just hate that if you let Bonds in, you're acknowledging his records, and that means Aaron gets screwed. Hank Aaron was more than just the home run record, he was a phenomenal hitter, but that's his claim to fame; taking that away from him means he's just going to keep getting swept aside in the conversation of all time greats

I was watching the news last night.  When they got to sports, the reporter did a long intro for Rivera, making a huge deal out of how he was the first person to ever be voted in unanimously.  When they cut back to the lead anchor, his immediate comment was "that's really rare, usually a few people don't vote for a player.

Where's the banging your head against the wall emoji when you need it?

I'm assuming Edgar was on his lat ballot, or close to it, and McGriff is not?

Either way, Mariano becomes the first unanimous player ever elected. Well deserved

Bonds and Clemens were the greatest hitter and pitcher of their era's, prior to any steroid abuse. Aaron, Ruth, Mays, Cy Young, Walter Johnson, Ted Williams, DiMaggio, Cobb, Griffey don't get into the HOF unanimously but a relief pitcher does and it's well deserved?? Please stop now.

Hopefully it finally puts the "you can't be unanimous" stupidity to a rest.  But yes, I kind of chuckled a bit that it was a closer who finally broke through on that one.

Mean you're really overlooking how incredibly dominate Mariano was, but alright

And I never said those players didn't deserve to be unanimous; the writers finally got it right making someone the first. It's the mentality you have that makes it so nobody ever gets it

There are certain guys who you look at and say HOFer.  Guys like Seaver, Maddox, Ryan, Chipper Jones, Griffey, Schmidt etc.. Any writer who doesn’t vote for these guys should lose his vote.  I have never understood how anyone would leave a guy like Maddux or Griffey off their ballot.
