There's more to this story, that much is obvious. Those comments read like when people talk about a friend finally going to rehab...

I didn't take that away from it all.

I also feel that if that's what it was, and he'd talked to management about getting help, they would have supported him.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense BUF would terminate his contract just because he wanted to go to rehab, or seek medical help for dperession or some other mental illness.... The NHLPA would be in an uproar.

Oshie's comments raise more questions IMO.

That's why I'm not sure I want to speculate that it's specifically drugs or something like that. The other rumors are that there are certain places he wanted to play and maybe there was some kind of psychological/emotional reason for that. I don't know. It just sounds very...complicated.

Good point. The Sabres and Jbot would have helped him.  Also aren’t there specific guidelines in the CBA for drug abuse.

I believe there are. That's what makes this whole thing weirder.

I suspect that the only thing that could help Bergie was to free him from his obligation to the Sabres. Who knows why that would be.

I believe that the Sabres are helping him.  If in no other way, which I don't think / hope this is all they are doing, than by releasing him from his obligations under an employment contract to take care of things, whatever they may be.

There still is too much speculation going on.

Again, it really does not matter what 'it' is and it is none of our business.

What does this even mean?

Sabre players.

Divorce?

I've mention possible family issues once or twice.  I don't know what his situation is on that front.  The other thought I had was parent diagnosed with something like cancer and he wanted to go home to spend time with them and since he didn't want to play with the Sabres anyway, well....

Rationally, sure you're right.  But the gossip in each of us really wants to know!

Also we want to know if there will be further action or if he's accepted the contract termination.

No offense, but gossip is a terrible thing and does much harm.  I do my best not to participate in any of it.  It's not easy, but I just keep in mind that my religion forbids it.

So, in all honesty, I do not need, nor want, to know.

The possibility of future issues concerning the team is another matter.  So, I hope that this does not come back to bite the Sabres in some way and I am interested to see how they move on from this, but really my top concern is for him and his family.  The Sabres will be fine.

None taken, but even you say "It's not easy" to not gossip.

I think what Sabres fans in general want is closure.  We want to know whether a cap hit will occur (won't know for sure until the grievance period is over).  We want to know that our team was not the "bad guy" in this story.  We want to support, or at least empathize, with someone who may be going through a tough time.  Despite the issues going on with the team and his usage, I for one had a positive image of the guy and I feel for him, or at least I'd like to.  I just hope whatever the issue, *he* can find closure.

I blame Al Gore.  This internet thing answers all questions instantly; why should these be any different?

My guess is some type of legal issues... gambling/drug ring, child pornography, sex trafficking, blackmail, animal abuse... has to be something offensive enough to force JBOT's hand, while at the same time keeping silent due to legal obligations.       Again, I'm not accusing him of anything, but it's fair to speculate because of the secretive nature of the entire ordeal.

I heard he owns a ping-pong themed pizza restaurant in DC.

@pi2000 sheesh. Couldn’t it just be a sensitive family matter?

No.   If it was a sensitive family matter they wouldn't have terminated his contract... they'd probably give him some leave of absences to square away his family issues before returning to the team, and would have announced it as such.

The contract termination, in a secretive manner, translates to likely legal issues.

Why can’t the sensitive family matter be chronic enough to prevent his return?
