What's point of Thompson on the 4th line? That line was working well the way it was. i dont think hes defensively responsible enough for that. Sheary continuing his slide out of relevancy, not so sure he gets re-signed unless he picks up his play

Sheary is great for what he is. But I agree on Thompson

Bottom line is Mitts needs to play better, and then his wingers won't have a constant turnover rate as to who he's playing with.

Sure. But it's the various regions in between that confuse me.

The Sabres are ... a little dull and a bit lucky?

Kinda. We don't shoot a lot but we don't let up a lot of shots against. What that chart fails to quantify is how good those shots are. Hence Carolina is so far in the 'Good' zone despite a mediocre record and 84 goals for. For reference, that's 29th in the league. So, is Carolina really 'Good'? Well, not really. They just shoot a lot

Finally shook up the lines.  I just hope Thompson works okay in a shutdown role.  That's not who I would put with Mitts but let's see how that works.

The reach man, the REACH.  I don't have a problem with him there.

Don't quite understand the bottom 3 lines but I have to give HCPH some trust cause whatever he's doing is working.

BUT.

The 4th line of Girgs, Larsson & EROD has been effective, why break that up?

The middle 6 worries me but I find solace knowing JBOT is still building, and we have 4 1st rounders in the next 2 years. I really hope Nylander or Olofsson can make the jump soon.

If it were up to me I'd roll a youth line of  Sheary - Mittelstadt - Thompson and a corpse line of Pominville - Sobotka - Okposo.

Go Sabres! These divisional games are always important standings-wise. Don't let them gain any ground!

Can someone explain to me why Ryan Vinz is backing up Hutton?

I would speculate that you want two goalies for practice, and if Ullmark is basically okay but they want to give him a maintenance day to nurse a minor muscle pull or something, you don't need to call up a replacement from Rochester, you use Vinz for your second practice goalie.  I fully expect that Ullmark will back up Huts.  If Ullmark is truly day-to-day and they don't want him to back up today, Wedgewood is probably on his way up from Rochester as we speak.

That makes sense. Thank you

I think I misspoke about "lucky" -- at least with regard to the posted chart. I had another chart in mind (where the Sabres show as a little bit fortunate (or maybe just solid in net)).

We've been very solid in net for sure. I just wanted to point out how misleading some of these charts can be
