Brian Gionta officially retires

Wonder if it’s retirement or joining the Sabres in a developmental capacity? Or Both

Interesting.

Brian's an amazing guy.  He accomplished a lot for an under-sized player.  I hope he's joining the team for some level of development.

Please. It's early. Children could be reading this.

I, too, hope he joining the franchise in a prominent role. The more former Sabres, the better. Celebrate the tradition!

It's going to be his retirement announcement and possible role with the organization from coaching or whatever.

I'm not sure how or why the captaincy thing would take place. Seems kinda unprecedented.

Passing the torch.  I like it.

The stanza on the wall of the Canadiens dressing room is the most awesome thing in sports.  I assume it's still on the wall of that historic room.  Not to mention the epic poem that it is taken from.

Per Mike Catalana Gionta is retiring and stepping into a side role with the Sabres

Passing the torch might make sense if he hadn't been playing for the Bruins last year.

One blemish that is very hard to overlook on an otherwise great career.

Blemish #2: going to BC

Blemish #3: playing for the Devils while they were in the middle of murdering the game of hockey
