In general though, I don't like it when a GM is fixated on obtaining players from their former organization. We see it with the Bills where we're picking up former Panthers left-and-right. Tim Murray wanted his former Ottawa guy Lehner in net. And, JBotts is adding former Pens left-and-right (e.g., Wilson). I get that they know these players, but I find it a bit myopic. Giving a 1st rounder for Lehner is different than giving a 3rd or 4th for Sheary and claiming Wilson off waivers for nothing. Especially when Sheary is the right age at a position of need, who may have depressed his value with a disappointing 30 pt season after scoring 53 the year before. Put him on LW with Eichel and Reinhart and he could repeat his 23 goals, 30 assists in 16-17. Only 26 and has 2 Stanley Cups. Instant Leadership in locker-room. The biggest thing I saw change based on the numbers is the usage - Offensive zone starts of 63% in the good year, and 55% in the down year. Get another winger this year and gotta doubt ROR goes anywhere till our Lord and Savior matured. I thought the opposite, more likely he gets traded. I see your point, and yet it may be that he has an advantage in trading with his former team- relationships are already built, there's not as much suspicion. He has a deeper knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses. Before we get too concerned we need to see how one or two JBot-&-Pitt trades work out (and not judge JBot on what XGMTM did). The reason why we got so much for so little was so the Pens could clear cap space. Well, and this. If the Pens needed a favor, they go to someone you know.
