They have a picture of Gilbert Perrault in the old Sabre white and then in one in the Navy Blue with Jack Eichel. You can do as many matchups as you can stand. The home white with Perrault is winning in every match up I chose. Haven't checked the site, so not positive to what you're referring, but NHL sweaters were most definitely not gray prior to 1960. They've always been colored though several teams only had 1 set prior to the TV age. Red & blue are dissimilar enough for the players & fans in the building to know which team is which. However, for home viewers watching on a little b&w set, having 1 squad wearing white was a huge assist. And as a matter of trivia, TV is also the reason for the red line not being a solid red.
