An awful tragedy in Halifax. Seven children dead in a house fire. I'm sure I speak for everyone here in extending our thoughts to those in Nova Scotia affected by this event, especially the Muslim community. This was a Syrian refugee family seeking a better life.

It is indeed.  Their father is in ICU and not doing well at all.  Their mother is doing better and may be out of hospital soon.

The first mass funeral, as far as I know, our community has known.  Very sad, indeed.

Thank you for your kind words.

Thanks.

The whole city and Province has really come together over this tragic and horrific event,  not just the Muslim Community.  These kinds of things are like that.  I hope it lasts.

The father is not good.  The mother is basically unhurt physically, but can't deal with this very well at all, which is understandable.  I can't even imagine.  You leave a war torn country and now this.  There was a vigil at the home last night and a group of 20 are with the mother at the hospital.  They have been allowed to stay and are there in shifts.  Everyone is pretty numb now.

I can't say for sure whether Vegas is the most overrated city in the country, but it has to be up there. What a disappointment.

How long is your stay?  I've only been there once, but 3-4 days seemed perfect to me.  Anything beyond that and I probably would have lost interest.

I was there for 4 days. I lost interest on day 1. Every casino was the same; no different than the same car in different paint colors. Every "mall" with the same assortment of high end stores no normal person is buying from, bad and boring souvenirs, the smoke everywhere, the near-impossibility of finding good beer. I could go on. I'm sure it's fine for some people if you enjoy getting all fancy and going to clubs or whatever, but it's not my bag at all. All flash and no substance.

Did you shoot craps? I find it makes any casino trip enjoyable, even for the complete novice.

I hate Vegas.  I've been there 3-4 times for conferences and hate going every time.

The "high end" restaurants are mediocre at best.  I don't gamble, period.

The only thing I like about Vegas is watching the people. But that too begins to suck when you realize that what humanity has to offer.

So the only positive you took out of the experience was actually a negative that involved what? Judging? Mocking? Not my cup of tea. But, hey, you do you. It's not how I want to live my life, that's for damn sure.

I wasn't blown away by Vegas either, It was a little more enjoyable at night after a few drinks, but I never understood the love for it. I typically will fly into Vegas to drive to a cool national park in Utah/Nevada, stop for lunch at a buffet, that's the best part about it, the overpriced but delicious buffets

That giant ferris wheel was awesome at night.  We lucked our way into being the only people on the drink car, so the bartender wound up pointing out all of the ideal views/pictures.

If I need a few drinks to enjoy a place, it's usually because it's a ***** place.  Never been to Vegas and I suspect that will remain so.

My wife was actually brought up on stage at a Penn and Teller show in Vegas.  We have a cell phone video showing us exactly how they did the trick, so it's a cool little memory.  It's amazing how many people have posted their video onto youtube.  So yeah, there are still plenty of options out there if you're not into the gambling and drunken shenanigans.  I'd do another 3-4 day trip there some time.

I'll admit, I liked the high roller, but again, it involved me drinking. I have no need to go back to Vegas ever again lol

There was a response here.  I'm deleting it.

If you read it.. then you did.

I'm realizing I'm not in the best state of mind to be posting right now.

You've definitely traveled more in the past year than I have in my entire life, so our scales are different, but I don't think we're all that far off on our views of Vegas.  I'm not itching to go back as there are a million other places ahead of it on my list, but if the opportunity presented itself, I would go and find a way to keep myself occupied.  And this is coming from a non-sloppy drunk who hates gambling.

A non sloppy drunk that hates to gamble, that's a fish outta water down there ? just because I travel doesn't change the scales much, I would say that it's a fairly cheap, kinda quick getaway (airfare wise) and it should be seen once in a lifetime, spend 3 days, but it's not one of those places where I'd go back yearly like maybe a Florida/carribean type trip

Oh and I forgot to mention just how little I travel.  In April I will be leaving the country for the first time ever.  I don't count the short drive over to America Jr. as leaving the country, so this one will count as a first.  The wife and I are doing 5 days in Jamaica.

That's awesome ? I hope the airports don't scare ya away from how awesome traveling is, you'll have to let t me know how Jamaica is also

Vegas, baby! Helicopter rides through the grand canyon(I'm bad on planes, but good on a helicopter), riding horses through Red Rock, roller coasters, skiing and golf.  It's awesome to have every drive carry over 300 yards in that desert air. Comedy shows, heck, every kind of shows. Vegas is fun as hell. And I have never placed a bet in a single one of their casinos. Oh and lake Mead was awesome too. Then go catch a hockey game and tell all your friends who gave you $20 to put on 17 in roulette that they lost.
