Survived another tax season.

I even took on a part-time role with Intuit as a tax expert.  It was a lot of fun and learned a lot.  They liked me too .. turned tax season contract into an extension for the summer and likely another after Labour Day to prepare for next tax season.  The pay isn't great, but the steady pay cheque every other week is nice.  Anyone that works for themselves will know what I mean.

Did I miss anything exciting?

It's a good thing they had that parade in The Great Satan after finally making it to the Quarter Finals, eh.

Welcome back

Did I tell you I’m headed for a Bosnian coffee in Mostar in few weeks?

DUDE!!

Really.  Fantastic.  Will you be able to get to Sarajevo?

Have a great time.  I miss it very much.  We have not been there for many years now.

Mostar is great.  A real mix of Bosniak and Croat.  Not much of a Serb presence there, which is sad.

It's a good time to go before the intense heat of July and August.  Dry, but 40+ degrees.

I asked my wife when we will stop using months when we say our son’s age. She said never. So this made me do the math in my head to show her that there’s clearly a line where you need to stop with months. I realized that I just turned 500 months.

so yeah, I don’t know where that line is, but I’m way past it.

The line is 2 years. The kid is 2. Not 31 months. That's something a crazy person would say.

The Cleveland clinic is what all institutions should strive to be. What a comprehensive place with every specialist and communication between all staff. I've been in the field for quite a while, and being a patient sucks. Going there is a game changer.

Honestly, I've felt that way about Buffalo General.  Not every Kaleida hospital, to be sure, but Buff Gen gives good care and everyone seems to know what's going on.  Millard was a different story.

Not that it matters, but does anybody know why the Friday thread was opened and then (apparently) immediately relocked?

Dunno but I did ask about it.

I sadly have to say my experience with Buffalo General was deplorable. I wish it was different, but I've resorted to transferring patients to Hamot when given the opportunity. In my specific situation, the miss was huge.

Ah too bad.  Well you told me to go there once and it worked out.  Also my dad was in for four weeks right around this time last year--and they were really good with communicating with me, even long distance.

I think I'm being a bit unfair, they're great with cardio and things of that nature. They're bad with the zebras of medicine. I think if it's clear cut, they are more than capable, but if it's an obscure diagnosis then it may be easier to go to a more comprehensive place.

I don't know what this means but it would have made a good name for an alt-rock band in about 2002.

😂😂😂 There's a saying in medicine "when you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras" it means deal with the most common things first. The zebras are the oddities that Dr. House would find lol. It's also why you go to a place like Cleveland clinic or Mt Sinai, etc to look for the less common things. There's also another saying "Ocams Razor" which translates to meaning that there's usually one explication for multiple issues and it's the simplest explination. We are a weird breed in Healthcare.

"Ocams Razor"

Occam's (or Ockham's, depending on the test) razor is familiar.  So is his theory on morality, which, let's just say, gets an F.  But who doesn't like House?  Actually, I think you have the same beard.

I wish I was half as witty as Gregory House 😂

But anywho, my theory on Morality may only get a C- at best

I am 100% certain that whatever your theory on morality is, it is better than Occam's.  Look up "freedom of indifference," and then look up where that leads.  He just had it so wrong.  As a philosopher, a B-, and that's only because of the Razor.  As a theologian (he did attempt it but his thoughts were bound by manuals and nominalism that he couldn't seem to escape), it's an F.  Occam was basically "do whatever you want, it doesn't matter."  His Razor is and was the only reason we think him important.

Somewhat like our Rayzor, #32.

Sounds like you have found the spot you need to be in. That is 90% of the effort in healthcare these days... finding the right people to help and advocating for yourself, or family, or friends until that happens. After 30+ years working in medicine I've learned that a persons mortality and morbidities rests almost entirely on who they are put into a room with. That doctor/nurse/technician/therapist can in a few minutes change the pathway your life is on for the better or the worse.

We joked about that when RosePIe was little; I was around 480 months at the time.

I have an Earth Machine composter that has been a staple on the property for a number of years. My little skunk friend dug a hole under it and he’s so damn cute that I don’t move the unit around much (like you should).

I have developed a reputation as an established benefactor to the local fauna. Deer, foxes, and especially the skunks and crows.

The deer revel in my gardens. The foxes (and birds of prey) feast on the booming mouse population from the gardens. I have a lot of slithering friends as well.

The skunk (who is starting to respond to baby talk) comes to Chez Composter a few times a week. Enough to keep the hole cleared for the crows.

The crows are my biggest fans. They not only follow me around the property, they leave bones and other trinkets on the composter, on the deck…..right in front of the front door. They’re a clever, focused bunch. Three or four come at a time. Two watch out, one goes in and tosses the booty toward the hole. One grabs while the third watches. If I’m out there, both go for the booty and I keep an eye out.

And they show me signs of weather long before it comes. When they stop leaving trinkets I know that a storm is coming, not that there’s much I could do about it. Guess they’re doing their best to help me.

I miss my poverty stricken youth, at times. We all relied heavily on the natural world and I am not so convinced that a lot of money is a better way, also, at times.
