I actually think it's the opposite: the current points system gives less talented teams a better chance. They can clutch and grab their way to OT for the point, and if they can hold on for 5 minutes, they get to the shootout which is basically a coin flip statistically. It's rare, but teams like Florida two years ago when divisions based on OT losses and teams like this year's Kings miss the playoffs due to bad shootout luck.

If the Kings are unhappy about that they should have taken luck out of the equation and just gotten more ROWs.

Elliott Friedman: So, Opening Night is Oct. 7. Next night is Connor McDavid's first game (in STL) and the third night will have Mike Babcock returning to DET.

NSH puts Viktor Stalberg and Richard Clune on (regular) waivers. (NOT unconditional waivers associated with buyouts)

Stalberg is big and really fast and has pretty good hands.  He can be inconsistent on the defensive end and is hurt a lot though.  He can be a steal for some team if he dedicates himself to playing defense.  His size/speed combination is rare.

He's 29.  I would argue he is the player he is and you should expect him to play like that.

I'm up for the 3 on 3 overtime, but why not go w/ a 3-2-1 scoring system? 3 for regulation win, 2 for overtime win and 1for overtime loss? Gives reason to play hard in the finals minutes of a 3rd period.

This is the system I think would work best. All games should be worth the same amount of points. The current system doesn't make sense in that a game in which a team wins in regulation awards 2 total points, whereas a game that goes to OT awards 3 points.

It should be 3 points for a regulation win, and if the game goes to OT/Shootout, 2 points to the winner and 1 to the loser. This format would also help with teams playing for OT, if teams ever currently attempt to do this.

Also, a team that loses a game (in OT/Shootout) is no longer getting awarded 50% of a regulation win.

Carey Price wins the Ted Lindsay Award (MVP as voted by the players)

Some nice Michael Peca comments and highlights as he talks about winning the Selke trophy at the NHL awards show (it's on NBCSN). Pat LaFontaine presenting.

Patrice Bergeron wins the Selke trophy (again). Best defensive forward.

Erik Karlsson win the Norris Trophy (best defenseman).

Bob Hartley (CGY) wins the Jack Adams (top coach).

Steve Yzerman (TB) wins GM of the Year.

Aaron Ekblad wins the Calder (rookie).

Carey Price wins the Vezina (goalie).

Jiri Hudler wins the Lady Byng (sportsmanship).

#Sabres forward Matt Moulson was seventh in Lady Byng voting. Jason Pominville was sixth.

Devan Dubnuk wins the Bill Masterson (perseverance).

Carey Price wins the Hart Trophy (MVP).

So with the new OT rules we could possibly see 3 on 2, or 2 on 2?  3 on 3 is ridiculous...you have to play your 3 fastest skaters....not real hockey, more of a gimmick...almost like street hockey.

They've already got a gimmick in place called the shoot out.

Might as well decide it with guys in inflatable sumo suits

I like the ideas of a fan from each team playing a game of NHL '16 to determine a winner or bring out the big piece of cardboard thye put in front of nets to give away cars and whichever team gets the most in the slot gets the point.
