Eleven Posted September 11 Author Report Posted September 11 Sad but not surprised. Gauff needs to win now, and then beat evil Grimace face. Quote

Jessie was nearly perfect in the first set and didn’t win it. Nothing to be ashamed of, but it was hard to comprehend how sh*t goes down. She brought her A game and it wasn’t quite enough. 1 Quote
shrader Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 So #1 in the world beats #3. Then #2 beats #4… and takes over the top ranking in the world? Tennis is strange. Quote

Yes, tennis is strange. The ranking system is based a rolling 52-week points system. Rybakina has won more matches and more tournaments during that time. Quote

Brackets incorporate prior success at the same tournament and also prior success on the particular surface. A #1 seed at Wimbledon (grass) may not be a #1 seed at Roland Garros (clay) or Marla Maples Stadium (hardcourt). Edited September 12 by Eleven Quote
nfreeman Posted September 12 Report Posted September 12 At the Army - South Florida football game in West Point. Army is up 14-7 at the half. I haven’t been to a college football game in many years (and have never been to a big-time game, although it’s on my bucket list). Gotta say, it’s a really nice, enjoyable sports experience. And West Point is a very nice campus. 2 Quote

Eleven Posted September 12 Author Report Posted September 12 There is a college football thread that has been around for years. I think Liger may have started it; I could be wrong. If you want to discuss minor-league pro football, you might find better discussions and more participation if you resurrect that one. Or stay here, whatever. Quote

FrenchConnection44 Posted September 12 Report Posted September 12 Little late on this first point, but those quarterfinals on Wednesday were amazing. Some of the most exciting tennis in years. Ben Shelton versus Alcaraz was an incredible match. Going to be tough for Shelton to beat Zverev tomorrow. Shelton still is a little inconsistent in his game just not quite sharp enough. Zverev seems to be at his peak. But Shelton will have the crowd, and if he can keep it together mentally, he has a shot — even though he’s 0-5 versus Zverev. I love the U.S. Open. It has been a bucket list for me since I started watching it in 1972 as a Chris Everett fan (not a big fan of her announcing) and Jimmy Connors fan. Finally got to go in 2019. One of the best times I’ve had. Stayed in Queens and my wife and I had a blast. 2 Quote
JujuFish Posted September 29 Report Posted September 29 Somehow the Guardians won the division again. Granted, it helps to be in a bad division, but this is the second year in a row they went on a tear. Since August 16th, Cleveland is an AL-best 25-12. 1 Quote
Eleven Posted September 30 Author Report Posted September 30 Bumping this because baseball playoffs. Quote
Eleven Posted Saturday at 06:03 PM Author Report Posted Saturday at 06:03 PM MLB is stupid. They had three series ready to go yesterday with a day of rest in between. They did not schedule a single game. Instead, they are squeezing four games into a roughly 9-hour starting period today, when it's up against college football, which is more popular. There was nothing on yesterday, sports-wise. Quote
