they didn't sell lawn seats (presumably they don't sell lawn if the theater itself isn't close to selling out).

and ms. amos didn't play a single song i recognized. it was a good show, though -- just not my cuppa.

but a beautiful summer evening in lewiston, ny is tough to beat.

Newport Folk Festival hit it out of the park again. There are so many unbelievable bands during those 3 days. Don't let the Folk name fool you, these people rocked it....

Well, I had a great time at the Rush concert at MSG the other night.  They didn't play everything I wanted, but I think all concerts are like that, and there were a number of great song performances.  There was a lot of jamming, much of which was great and some of which could've used a bit of tightening up.  The arena was completely full, to the top of the upper deck, although the behind stage area was curtained off.

Also, I don't think I've ever been in a room that big before that was completely filled with guys in my exact demographic.

Overall I think if you like Rush, you would enjoy this concert.

Ritchie Blackmore to reunite with Deep Purple for the first time in over 30 years

Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1973 to do his own thing, forming the band Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio.  Apparently he and lead singer Ian Gillan had a lot of conflict.  They reunited from 1984 to 1989 before Blackmore left for good... until tonight.  If this were happening in Dallas I'd be figuring out a way to go.

I noticed this and had the same thoughts about going if I could (but I'm in Denver).

I saw the Mk II lineup at the Niagara Falls Convention Center in 1985. Such a great concert.

My only complaint with seeing them in July was it was Geddy's first concert after his bronchitis and he was pretty rough.  I've heard he sounds much better in subsequent shows.

i went to the foo fighters show in cleveland on monday night.

i enjoy the band's well known songs and certainly respect the catalog they've put together. but i would not call myself a fan, per se. given that dynamic, it was a little weird to go see the band perform a stadium show.

the performance was nonetheless quite enjoyable. grohl is a gifted frontman.

i was sort of amused by how transparently grohl sets the vibe and tone of the concert being a rock 'n roll carnival. there's an obvious debt to KISS. there are echoes of Jack Black in School of Rock/Tenacious D. i may have even caught a knowing wink to This Is Spinal Tap.

I feel the same about Foo Fighters.  I like what I've heard but never dug deeper.  I think I would enjoy seeing them live.

Grohl is a helluva entertainer.  He knows his job well.  I respect the hell out of the respect he gives to the folks buying tickets.

I saw them probably 6 or so years ago in Syracuse.  Rained like hell that day.  The amphitheater was a mud pit.  The bands plane was delayed in NYC due to the same storm that dumped on Syracuse.  They didn’t show up until 10pm, but when the limo rolled up with the band they didn’t even go backstage.  They jumped right up on stage and picked up their instruments.  Grohl apologized to the crowd, gave a 30 second summary of what happened, said they weren’t going to F around with dialog, they were just gonna play.  And then they rolled into song after song without break until the venue shut them down at midnight.

Like I said, mad respect.

I wish he would have shown his wife the same respect.

If I scored free tickets to a Foo Fighters show I would go and am sure I'd enjoy it. But every time I listen to them on Spotify and 'give them another try' in terms of my listening habits, I come away feeling bored and don't go back there again.
