It's like winning the gold medal every day. Same here, 8+ years. I took an early reduced pension and supplement it with part time (whenever I choose) and short contract work. The adjustment of spending 40 years accumulating wealth and then watching the balance slowly drop takes a while but my financial adviser has explained things well. A friend with no family just passed away and I have all the time in the world to help sort out his affairs. 2

I have been doing a little part time side contracting work as a program management consultant, but I plan to end that by the end of 2026. I feel that I need to stay busy, but at my pace and on my timeline. 2

I am old AF and they need an “experienced “ guy to mentor a whole new staff they are bringing on. Seems like a winner. I can train my replacements over the next few years then ride off into the sunset. If this turns out to be decently managed it could be an ideal “last job”. 6
