Complaint Thursdays

This thread appears to be dying a slow death.  Let me give it a boost...

What is wrong with aggressive drivers?  I am talking about the ones who have the pedal to the metal when a light turns green, drivers who have to constantly change lanes and pass cars even if the other cars are doing the speed limit, people who blow their horn if you don't go the second a light turns green, ones who blow through red lights, and most important, idiots who can't be bothered to stop at stop signs.  I'm not talking about rolling stops, I am talking about people going through a stop sign at 15-20mph(or even more).

What's your freaking hurry?  😡

@LabattBlue thanks for the reminder, I forgot I wanted to complain today.

I’ve been going to the VA very regularly since November for my wrist and shoulder, both injuries from when I was in the Army. While the VA has truly done a great job of taking care of me, I’m getting very frustrated with the condition that I am in. I have arthritis throughout my left wrist, nerve damage through my left thumb, a forearm that is somehow now too long on the outside than the inside, and a bone rapidly degenerating in my wrist.

The doctors are thinking I will be looking at surgery to remove a piece of my forearm and replace with a bar so my wrist will stop getting locked, surgery to remove degenerating bone fragments, and a third that I honestly can’t even remember at this point. They said it’s more or less up to me when it’s done and they advised to wait as long as possible because these will become  recurring surgeries and will limit my flexibility and range of motion even more so than it already it. I have a nerve study to get done at the end of the month to try to determine what’s going on with my lack of feeling in my thumb as well.

This all began because I wanted to get my shoulder checked out and my GP decided she wanted to see where things were with my wrist because I mentioned the locking and arthritis.

Now on to the shoulder. I had my second round of PT this morning and it’s just not going well at all and quite frankly I am worried I will never be able to throw a baseball with my children. The PT ordered MRI imaging because they are struggling to figure out what it wrong with it, but it has not yet been approved. There is a slight impingement, but there certainly sounds like there is structural damage that will also require surgery. My shoulder has been in awful shape for about seven or eight years already and I am happy to being taken care of, but this is all becoming dejecting and frustrating very fast. I can hardly do exercises with one pound weights and there are many times we are doing arm movement with no weight at all that I cannot do.

At the end of the day, it is what it is. But, man, this is really wearing on me. I am 29 years old and the amount of people who understand what it’s like when your body is quitting on you left and right at my age is few and far between. I’m already rated disabled for a back injury as well so it just all around sucks.

After evicting ... Ive been working on my rental unit for a month now. I have another 3 weeks of work to go. Yea ... the apartment is THAT bad. Outdated is the least of its issues. But once it’s done, most of the major things I’m doing will last many many years of use and abuse. So it’s a necessary step. But I’m complaining in the thread about it 😂

Might be worth getting a second opinion from a hand wrist specialist... my wife an OR nurse always recommends one and TG because I went a different direction on my post tumor removal with chemo instead of radiation

I appreciate it! There are a few more steps that I need to take to get there, but I have already mentioned that I want to make sure to be seen more extensively by an orthopedics specialist before going down that route. They had me go to OT for my wrist twice now and they basically said there was nothing they could do for me. It’s tough to get in with a GP, but I’ve had fairly good success getting in with specialists. I’ll be seeing my GP after imaging, the nerve study, and my PT is done and we will be evaluating the next steps then. With the wrist surgeries, they said to wait until things are unbearable and to make sure to live to the highest quality while I can. I asked the PT today what’s at risk to do the same with my shoulder and they said really based on the shape it’s in not much. I’ve dealt with the pain of this for years now. In an ideal world I can hold off on the wrist for ten years, but their tone on the immediacy of the surgeries kind of changed when the nerve issues came about (I slipped walking up a hill with the dogs and landed on it on Christmas Day and haven’t had full feeling since). We’ll see what they say at the nerve study. If they offered to open up my shoulder tomorrow and fix it 50% I would do it. I’ve coached little league the last four seasons and every year there are days I can’t physically throw. I told them if they can get me to wear I can throw any day I want to even with pain I will be a happy man. Fingers crossed! Until then I’m going to take the advice of my OT and PT and do everything I can while I can. I find if I smoke a bit and go to bed at the end of a long day things generally feel better in the morning (assuming it doesn’t wake me up lol).

Honestly though, in my mind, it sounds worse than it is. I wouldn’t give up my time in service to be perfectly healthy and I know a whole bunch of folks who have it much worse or not at all. The VA is a very humbling place.

I hope you find relief - and thank you kindly for your service.

Just wanted to say that I’m sorry to hear about all of this.

Ive been having similar issues with my shoulder for a few years now. A year of PT did nothing - it has only gotten worse. I’m frustrated and don’t know where to go from here. It’s getting to the point where I can barely lift my arm, and it’s incredibly hard to get sleep. I was a baseball pitcher, bowler, and liked to throw a lot of checks in hockey. Not sure if that’s all connected to my issue or not, but I’m very frustrated that I’m not able to play with my daughter in ways that I wish I could.

I appreciate it and I’m sorry to hear that as well. If you ever need to vent to someone who gets it feel free to reach out and I’ll lend you an ear. I know it’s difficult.

After having Covid my 14 year old had an abnormal EKG and now needs to see a cardiologist for another ekg and and ultrasound of his heart. Needless to say he's not cleared to return to sports and depending on what's wrong he may never be.

This is terrible.  I am hearing so many stories like this of bad things coming after COVID.  Hoping for the best.

I’m complaining because I will soon be ending a very successful career and I will officially retire by June 1st.  Hoping to get a Covid shot soon and then start the process. I have enough time built up to stop working my mid April, and collect a paid vacation with benefits to June.

Why complain?   Well after 40 years I finally got a bad boss.  I can’t stay any longer.  The culture here is just so bad and I am too old to adapt to it.  I know that.  It’s time.

Good news is I am set up comfortably and I have no regrets.

I will start a part time consulting gig in August - If I still give a ***** after what will be a 15 week vacation.

PS - That damm Harold Ballard still regrets firing me.

Yeah I hear you, I don't want to tell him he has to miss his U15/Sophomore year. It will not be pleasant around here if that happens.

  • 2 weeks later...

Arguing with the development team that we are not in production if you need to "test" something.  It's not beta if there are no new features.  AAAAAAND, if you are still working on the data architecture between two systems that may result in additional development then we never passed user acceptance testing and we're really still in development.

Come on.. be a product owner, where they tell you that you are the CEO of your product... you just can't fire people.

Also.. the Sabres play tonight.

And we're waiting to hear if my son is considered "close contact" to another child who tested positive yesterday for COVID.  One who went out of town for a weekend and never quarantined or was tested upon return.  We found out that juicy nugget at 6:25am this morning.

The close contact would be from Sunday morning and he tested positive Tuesday afternoon.

I'd also like to go punch a few people for their actions.

My daughter getting married this year.  Currently any wedding number above 100 people requires a negative covid test(at the expense of guest or bride and groom) prior to admittance.  But you can go to a bar with music, drinking, eating & dancing(same things that happen at a wedding), and no test is required.

How can this be?  It is exactly the same thing.  F U Cuomo! 😡

Yep.  A close contact.  So now my son is stuck in the house until next Wed.  He's tested negative but the process is the process.  He'll miss a few things he really wanted to be part of so I hope this is a life lesson for him.

This is why we preach the rules, even if we don't love them. At least we're not impacted, so I can still go out!  🙂

Just spoke to someone who called worried about my car warranty running out.  I pressed "1" to speak with someone, (mis)informed him that I have no car, but can he help with my two bicycles.  <click>...I guess he doesn't deal in bikes.  😂
