\$660,000 or below = None

>$2 mil - $ 3 mil = 1st & 3rd rounder

>$3 mil - $ 4 mil = 1st, 2nd, & 3rd rounder

>$4 mil - $ 5 mil = 2-1st, 2nd, & 3rd rounder

>$5 mil = 4-1st rounders

Thanks for that info greg.

I'm going to say this then: IF the Sabres do NOT make something else happen, this is a HORRIBLE move by the Sabres...I would have to believe that Bernier would have been signed to an offer sheet that would, at WORST, gotten the Sabres a 1st and 3rd rounder.

So based on this alone, I am going to predict something else is up.

This probably means that Darcy can't find any takers for Max so he had to trade someone else. I'm surprised he didn't get Pyatt back in the trade.

I don't like the move at all. I think Bernier is going to become a solid player. I guess he is too big for this team.

I thought he had potential to go up or down, but I thought he deserved to stay and develop just to see what he would do. Maybe the Sabres--and Sharks--knew something we don't

It's crazy. The team is worse right now than when the FA period started. it's like what they did to the Blues before they were sold to Checketts.

If BM's theory is true then the offer sheet would have had to be less than 2 million.

Good plan. Trade all of your potential for new draft picks who may or may not have potential. I think Buffalo should have at least waited and seen what the kid had. This strategy you are espousing makes no sense. Good teams try and preserve their young talent. We have no problem shipping them off for pennies in return. Sorry, but I am disappointed about the FO's stance on pretty much every move they've made in the past two offseasons. Plus, if they wanted to get rid of some "potential" that didn't pan out, they should have moved Max when he still had some potential value. This FO seems clueless IMO, and this is just more proof.

My first comment was a joke/sarcasim

But like i said about Bernier, maybe they had seen enough of what he had to offer and don't feel he will reach his potential. And I think Max has/had a higher potential then Bernier did, and at times showed flashes of it so they kept him around.

Why all the negativity, guys? Bernier was traded for those two picks because that's what his market value is. Clearly, the Sabres have just begun to tweak the roster, and this was a move to obtain some value for a guy that they didn't see fitting into the plan long-term. I mean Jeez, if you want to criticize the FO at least wait until the roster is set and all trades have been made. We might be very pleased in the end. And Darcy has been very clear that they tried to make some moves and the players made other choices. That doesn't mean it's the Sabres' fault that those players made those choices. They have a variety of reasons for signing with particular teams, and it's not just $$. At some point we're going to need a right-handed D with some size/toughness/skill, and a big winger. The process has just started!

I equate this trade to the Pyatt deal. No biggie.

This is simply unreal. All the talk about getting bigger upfront. All the talk of having that big body in front of net, and then this? I just don't understand. How are fans supposed to be excited about this?

This is my team, and its so disappointing to see whats becoming of it. My God we were knocking on the door of playing in a championship two years ago, and now this?

Unreal

One would think so. SB headed out there doesn't bother me. Other than his first game, he was kind of quiet.

He did have a groin injury like a week after the Sabres acquired him so that could have been an impact on his play.

How much do you want to bet that Vancouver called Buffalo last night and said. "Darcy- We are going to pull a Kevin Lowe on you and sign SB to a crazy offer sheet...How about we just play this thing through and you gift him to us now....if you're nice I'll see if I can get you and your fans a couple of weak draft picks in return for him."

not saying i like the move, but that makes no sense ... if it was going to be a "crazy" offer sheet, it would get the Sabres back at least one 1st round pick and obviously the Sabres would rather have that ... Vancouver fans would be the ones scratching their heads right now instead of us ...

Maybe Bernier got fat the last couple months or something, who knows, but something turned the Sabres off. Ugh.

find me a damn bridge; i am ready to jump- throw me the anchor. WTF.

We have little physical presence with him. we do not get any first rate UFA. and, we trade bernier; but still have max and SO specialist Al, which really does not help because miller can't stop SO anyway.

please darcy- tell me you have something cooking and not trading max in the division for a pick in 2011.

These are last years numbers. I know for sure that $2.6 million is the new cutoff for a 1st round pick. Someone posted the right numbers on an earlier thread.

The "Something Bigger" is that Miller or Pommer are sitting back, laughing their Arse's off holding a gun to DR's head and about to both be "Well" compensated. Remember- Or organization is one that believes "Another year in the system is all you need, so we grow from within"

There is no big trade coming, or major FA signing here. Its to sign one of our own.

The trade was done to free cap space, and acquire picks lost in next years draft.

This is assuming that Miller and Pomer want to come back, which, based on the history of this franchise, tells me I do not have much confidence that they are coming back.

Good enough that two teams have traded for him so far.

But I'm going to reserve comment until I see how this move fits in with any future moves and I hear from Lindy and Darcy.

Flip side being that a team that invested a first round pick gave up on him and a team in desparate need of vindication for trading another marquee player gave up on him.

Whether this was a move to free up space for another move ( the thought that they need picks for another deal is laughable) the bottom line is that Tampa got a lot more for Boyle then Buffalo got for Campbell and I know the situations are markedly different.

FWIW, from He Who Cannot Be Trusted:

I just got confirmation form a source that the Bernier trade for picks is part one of something bigger. When I said to a source familiar to the situation that the Bernier deal was very confusing to Sabres fans and asked if this was "part of something bigger?" I got a funny text back..

"You could say that."

SO I AM.

Wait, I'll save you all the trouble

Oh, if Eklund said it, it will NEVER happen!
