I've been thinking for a while about starting an OT thread to see if there are any other board members here who work in a health care related field. Not sure if there will be enough interest or not. Aside from Woody our resident MD, are there any other docs, PAs, NPs, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, PTs, imaging folks, dental, etc here? I recently read that 1 in 8 Americans work in health care, so surely there must be. Would be interesting to hear about different specialties, what you love and hate about your particular field, any interesting stories of patient interaction both good and bad, how the ACA has impacted your job...anything at all really. I'm starting PA school next year and I can't wait. Would love any advice from others who have already been down that road. I'm 45 so this will be a second career for me, and I have not previously worked in health care (although I've been a direct patient care volunteer at Hospice for the last year to get some experience). I've also done some PA shadowing and I hope to do some more before school starts. Well, I'm not sure how many people are actually here during the offseason, so this will probably go nowhere, but so be it. B-)

So did anybody upgrade? I've got 8.1 Pro and 7 Ultimate, both computers I didn't update KB3035583 to keep it from downloading Windows 10 automatically. I always say I'm going to wait until the bugs are worked out, but temptation usually wins out.

Anyone got anything he/she really liked? I haven't seen much in the theater, although I did take my daughter to see "Inside Out" last week and enjoyed it. If you like kids' movies and/or liked "Parks and Recreation," I think you'll like it. For summer TV, I highly recommend: Catastrophe -- Amazon Prime -- kinda like the movie "Knocked Up" Deutschland 83 -- Sundance -- good spy thriller Mr. Robot -- USA -- edgy tech thriller And a somewhat lesser recommendation for "Daredevil" and "Orange is the New Black" -- both on Netflix. I enjoyed both but I think they are a notch below the 3 listed above. Let 'er rip.

I know there was some grill talk in another thread but I couldn't remember what one and I figured a seperate thread could be worth this discussion. I am looking to replace an old 3 burner model. Wanted some recommendations on some good value models in the 150 to 300 dollar range or at the least things to look for in that range that add to durability

I've been enjoying season 2 so far. I'm expecting episode 5 to be very significant, as the show seems to be following the arc timing of season 1 pretty closely so far. Season 1 is one of the best seasons of television of all time.

So in anticipation of my rug rat joining the ranks of the young ice hockey ranks, I'm building a rink in my back yard. I have most of the knowledge I'll need as I spied my buddy's rink building process. What I need from you guys is size. Right now I can comfortably fit a 60 × 40 foot rink in my backyard. A rink that size would seem ambitious but I dont want to have to buy a new tarp every other year as I keep expanding.

Not trying to take away from all the great photos in the "sweat" thread, but I thought having a photography thread might be a cool idea. I enjoy taking pictures and usually make it a big part of my vacations, if not having planned around it. Maybe this thread could take off, maybe not. But lets see some of your pictures that you're proud of. I've got a bunch I can add, I'll start with one. Mods feel free to delete this if it might take away from the other thread, it's not the intention.

So, as my life marches forward and I think about my kids and what world they will have to adapt to when eventually the oil runs out, the oceans are overflowing with plastic, etc... I try to do things that are probably more symbolic on the individual level, but perhaps be meaningful if adopted culturally. I would like to hear what anyone else does. 1. I nether buy water/drinks at the cafeteria, nor do I use plastic utensils. This has saved 1000's of pieces of plasticware from hitting the landfills. Bringing my own water jug keeps me from paying for water and using the plastic. 2. I carpool to soccer games whenever possible keeping another car off the road when we are all going to the same places. 3. We recycle more material than we throw away. Our county has an awesome program, so that is easy for us. But our recycle bins fill faster than our garbage bins. 5. I refuse plastic bags whenever possible (and use reusable ones when grocery shopping). 6. AC is set to about 80 in the summer. Heat is at 68 in the winter. Programmable thermostat runs a weekly program. I would love to see a society that carries their own drinking cup and utensils. So much single use waste that is unnecessary. What do you do?

I am feeling the need for intelligent Bills discussion. Let's start things out with a doozie. Anyone feel like Merriman's comeback was too good to be true? Apparently, it was. Merriman busted with steroids.

Had been thinking about getting a bike. Never had one before, and have no clue how to ride them. Came upon a bad accident in Lockport today,just after it happened. From the damage on the bike it looked like he T-boned a car. Young guy I guess in his 20's laying face down in the road, amongst all the glass and metal. Several people were trying to help him until help could arrive. He still had his helmet on and it looked intact. Could not tell if he was conscious. Seeing and hearing about these bad bike accidents has really got me turned off to the idea of getting one. Any of you guys ride? With the way people drive nowadays, are you thinking of parking it. Money burning a hole in my pocket, would like some opinions please. :unsure: :unsure:

Let's discuss favorite beers. I'll start off by labeling myself a beer geek, NOT a beer snob. That will be evident early in this post. I cannot pick a favorite beer. I can't even pick a favorite style of beer. There are so many varieties that it would take a lifetime to acquire and sample them all. And I am doing my damndest to try. I'll start by saying what I don't like. I don't like fruit flavored beers. Well, *most* styles of them anyway. There are a few Belgian styles that use fruit that I enjoy. And I don't like German styled wheat beers either. They have a background banana and clove character that I don't care for in beer. Pretty much everything else style-wise has tasty representatives that I will gladly consume. For me, beer is a situational beverage. So I guess if I am going to talk about favorite beers, I need to list favorites as they pertain to different situations. Summer thirst quenchers My first choice for a beer to have after (or during) yard work or lounging on a hot and sunny day like today is Genny Cream Ale. It is light enough to be thirst quenching yet has more flavor than Bud, Miller, Coors. And for those of you young uns that's never had a Genny Cream but heard awful things, put away your bias and try one side by side against a Bud/Miller/Coors. There is a reason it used to dominate the beer market around here. I think you'll be pleasantly suprised. Also on my list is Southern Tier Hop Sun from down in Jamestown, NY. Like the name suggests, it has lots of crisp hop flavors but is light on the palate and low-ish in alcohol so it won't beat you up on a day where you're likely to dehydrate anyway. My honorable mention here is Labatt's 50 ale. Soft and thirst quenching but has a nice finishing Cascades hop flavor. Beer to drink with Summer barbeque food I like a light refreshing beer with my ribs or Chiavetta's chicken but I want something with a bit more flavor than a cream ale or typical American/Canadian lager. For pairing with summer foods I like a Belgian style called Saison. They are soft and dry but have a bit of a spicy character to them. My favorite is made by a NY brewery called Ommegang. Their Saison is named Hennepin. And it is delicious with Italian sausage w/ peppers and onions or grilled pork tenderloin, yet has the backbone to stand up to a ribeye steak. Patio beer with a cigar in the evening Typically I am a whiskey drinker in the evening but there are plenty of beers that substitute well here, most of them high alcohol varieties. Belgian Quadruples pair well with contemplative moments. So do double IPA's, barley wines, big Scotch ales, and export stouts. I have two favorites. A Belgian style quad by Ommegang called Three Philosphers and a double IPA by Souther Tier named Unearthly. They are rich and chewy and have enough flavor to compete with whatever cigar I am enjoying. Beers to go along with Fall sports and yardwork I'm a traditionalist here. Oktoberfests are my style of choice when the leaves turn. I like Dundee Oktoberfest here. And Sam Adams Oktoberfest is also a very tasty version. Honorable mention goes to a hoppy harvest beer from Southern Tier called Harvest Ale. It is an amber hoppy ale brewed just for Fall. Winter Beers My beer choices tend to the dark and higher alcohol in wintertime. Stouts, porters, Scottish ales end up in my glass most frequently. I like Flying Bison's Scotch Ale best. Rohrback's Scotch Ale is damned good too. And Great Lakes brewing out of Cleveland makes a porter that can't be beat in my mind. Stouts don't start and finish with Guinness but it's never a bad choice if your out on the town. And Guinness is fairly low in alcohol so if you are driving have one of those instead of a bigger, more alcoholic beer. Beers for Spring I've got two. One traditional, and one that's fairly new on the market. Every Spring I have to buy a 12 pack of Genny Bock. Admittedly, it's not an award winning version of the style but it's release is one of the first signs of Spring and is a must buy for me. My ohter Spring fav is a seasonal from Sam Adams, Noble Pils. It is their version of a clasic Czech Pilsner and it is a hoppy, crisp, and full flavored pilsner. Great stuff to quaff on those warm Spring days as the lawn is starting to green over. You'll notice that most of my choices are made nearby. There is a good reason. Unlike wine, beer is best drunk fresh, and you can't get any fresher than a beer in season that was made and shipped less than 50 miles away. Storage that is measured in months really does degrade the subtle flavors in beer. And if you haven't really ventured beyond Blue, Mich Ultra, or whatever your usual pour is, do yourself a favor and start to explore the other styles available. There is an incredible variety of flavors and styles out there. Anyway, that's my long-wided post about my favorite beers. Let's hear a little about yours. (yeah, it's a bit slow at work right now )

Just out of curiosity, what does everyone here drive? By all means select multiple cars, but try to make them ones that you own or drive regularly. I have to do American cars first since it forces you to answer all questions, so it would have messed up the polling. Once this vote has accumulated a good amount, I'll start a new thread for foreign cars.

Okay, so this came up in the Complaint Thursdays thread this week and since a lot of you seem to know your alcohol, figured I'd ask this here. I'm primarily a vodka drinker; I enjoy the clean taste and versatility in mixing, but I'm a little bored with it. I also enjoy light rum in a mojito during warmer weather, but I'd like to try whiskey or scotch. So what I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me with is: just how does one begin drinking whiskey or scotch? I'd eventually like to get to the point of being able to enjoy some of the good stuff neat or on the rocks, but I'm guessing I'll need to work up to that point since I don't drink it now. Two main questions come to mind: 1) What are some good "starter" liquors, i.e. something good enough I'll have a chance at liking, but not so good that I'll hate myself if I buy a bottle and don't end up liking it, and 2) Is it best to start with a mixer, or jump right in with the undiluted stuff? Any suggestions would be much appreciated -- thanks in advance for the help!

Soo...not sure how I got here but here goes. What is the attraction to female breasts? Don't get me wrong, there's no bigger breast man than myself. I'm trying to get to an underlying cause here. Sexually, at least preconception, they are merely nothing more than toys or handles. Obviously, post conception, they are extreme functional and life sustaining. So are men hard wired to associate large breasts with life sustainability therefore more sexually attracted to them or is it something different? Just throwin it out there...

I haven't seen the Penn St. horror mentioned here, but it is of some relevance I would think. Considering the Sabres tight ties to the Penn St athletic department, I just wonder how deep down the rabbit hole this whole thing goes. The whole program could go up in flames. I get a little nervous because Cliff Benson is the Financial Chair of Sandusky's "Second Mile" boys charity. As far as I can tell Pegula is only a hockey guy there, so hopefully the money trail and coverups don't make a draft this way. This just sounds like a long haul situation.

A reminder to all horror film fans that 'The Walking Dead' starts on AMC this Sunday. The graphic novel by Robert Kirkman is being brought to TV as a series by the director of the 'Shawshank Redemption'. Go to AMCTV.COM to view the trailer. If you like the old school zombie movies you should check this out. I just started reading the graphic novel (ok it's a comic) a couple of weeks ago. I have read through volume eight and can't wait to pick up the next four. If AMC can replicate the feel of the comic this is going to be a huge hit.

Anyone seen this spinoff of Breaking Bad ? I've watched the first episode and I'm just sitting down to the second. I like it. It takes place pre-breaking bad so many of the same characters show up. Thoughts ?
