  1. Per People Magazine she has passed at age 60.
  2. A bit sarcastic of me probably, but serious 2016 you suck :( not a serious fan of George Michael or status quo even , but this just feels like , lets get two more on the books.
  3. So in anticipation of my rug rat joining the ranks of the young ice hockey ranks, I'm building a rink in my back yard. I have most of the knowledge I'll need as I spied my buddy's rink building process. What I need from you guys is size. Right now I can comfortably fit a 60 × 40 foot rink in my backyard. A rink that size would seem ambitious but I dont want to have to buy a new tarp every other year as I keep expanding.
  4. Not trying to take away from all the great photos in the "sweat" thread, but I thought having a photography thread might be a cool idea. I enjoy taking pictures and usually make it a big part of my vacations, if not having planned around it. Maybe this thread could take off, maybe not. But lets see some of your pictures that you're proud of. I've got a bunch I can add, I'll start with one. Mods feel free to delete this if it might take away from the other thread, it's not the intention.
  5. So, as my life marches forward and I think about my kids and what world they will have to adapt to when eventually the oil runs out, the oceans are overflowing with plastic, etc... I try to do things that are probably more symbolic on the individual level, but perhaps be meaningful if adopted culturally. I would like to hear what anyone else does. 1. I own a version of these: https://www.rei.com/product/782238/sea-to-summit-alpha-utensil-set?cm_mmc=cse_PLA_GOOG-_-7822380015&CAWELAID=120217890000780412&lsft=cm_mmc:cse_PLA_GOOG and carry them with me on my water jug at work. I nether buy water/drinks at the cafeteria, nor do I use plastic utensils. This has saved 1000's of pieces of plasticware from hitting the landfills. Bringing my own water jug keeps me from paying for water and using the plastic. 2. I carpool to soccer games whenever possible keeping another car off the road when we are all going to the same places. 3. I use Eneloop rechargeable batteries (they are incredible) and a high end charger that charges them slowly to maximize life. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-BK-3MCCA8BA-Pre-Charged-Rechargeable-Batteries/dp/B00JHKSN5I Quite frankly, I would pass a law that every household own these instead of buying alkaline. 4. We recycle more material than we throw away. Our county has an awesome program, so that is easy for us. But our recycle bins fill faster than our garbage bins. 5. I refuse plastic bags whenever possible (and use reusable ones when grocery shopping). 6. AC is set to about 80 in the summer. Heat is at 68 in the winter. Programmable thermostat runs a weekly program. I would love to see a society that carries their own drinking cup and utensils. So much single use waste that is unnecessary. What do you do?
  6. Smell, I like you, but this right here is blasphemy. I may even be in favor of having you drawn and quartered.
  7. The leagues have been set up over at yahoo for the 2015-2016 season. I did the auto email to last years managers - so look for that at whatever email you used last year. If you were not part of a league last year just add a message here that you would like to join. You can check them out at: http://hockey.fantas.../sabrespacegold http://hockey.fantas.../sabrespaceblue Gold is a bit more restrictive in player movement while Blue is more free wheeling. Hopefully soon WildCard will be the Blue commissioner and DeLuca will be the Gold commissioner. Then I will be free! HaHaHaHa! Um, I mean then they will have the pleasure of deciding when the drafts will be.
  8. So did anybody upgrade? I've got 8.1 Pro and 7 Ultimate, both computers I didn't update KB3035583 to keep it from downloading Windows 10 automatically. I always say I'm going to wait until the bugs are worked out, but temptation usually wins out.
  9. Anyone got anything he/she really liked? I haven't seen much in the theater, although I did take my daughter to see "Inside Out" last week and enjoyed it. If you like kids' movies and/or liked "Parks and Recreation," I think you'll like it. For summer TV, I highly recommend: Catastrophe -- Amazon Prime -- kinda like the movie "Knocked Up" Deutschland 83 -- Sundance -- good spy thriller Mr. Robot -- USA -- edgy tech thriller And a somewhat lesser recommendation for "Daredevil" and "Orange is the New Black" -- both on Netflix. I enjoyed both but I think they are a notch below the 3 listed above. Let 'er rip.
  10. I know there was some grill talk in another thread but I couldn't remember what one and I figured a seperate thread could be worth this discussion. I am looking to replace an old 3 burner model. Wanted some recommendations on some good value models in the 150 to 300 dollar range or at the least things to look for in that range that add to durability
  11. They're Baaaaaaaaaaacck!!!!!!!!! https://scontent-lga1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xat1/t31.0-8/s2048x2048/11111956_1004028256294594_1412511863154266381_o.jpg  :worthy:
  12. STATEMENT FROM BILLS PRESIDENT RUSS BRANDON "On behalf of Terry and Kim Pegula and everyone at One Bills Drive, we are all deeply saddened with the news of the passing of Van Miller. As the ‘Voice of the Bills,’ Van's historic radio calls of Bills games over the years will forever resonate with our fans. His Hall of Fame and Wall of Fame talent was overshadowed only by his engaging personality, his witty sense of humor and his love for the Bills. We will all dearly miss ‘Uncle Van,’ but his legacy will remain deeply embedded in our franchise's history and in the hearts of his countless fans in Western New York and throughout the NFL community. Our deepest sympathies, along with our thoughts and prayers, go out to his wife Gloria and all of Van's family during this difficult time." I know this was mentioned in the Bills thread, but Van's passing deserves its own thread.
  13. I've been enjoying season 2 so far. I'm expecting episode 5 to be very significant, as the show seems to be following the arc timing of season 1 pretty closely so far. Season 1 is one of the best seasons of television of all time.
  14. Alexander Hill, the prime suspect in a quadruple killing, bizarrely gave a TV interview to Buffalo news station WGRZ-TV while he was on the lam. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/man-lam-killing-people-tv-interview-article-1.2201543
  15. I saw that Coller at WGR tweeted this. Interesting development. The Beauts, apparently. http://pointstreaksites.com/view/nwhl/teams-388/buffalo-beauts
  16. I'll admit to despising the Call of Duty series now, but back in middle school and high school I spent hundreds of hours playing them. My rankings for the games I've played a lot: 1) Modern Warfare 2) Modern Warfare 2 3) Black Ops 4) WaW MW was a perfectly balanced masterpiece. It's up there with Counter Strike, the fps of my childhood and TF2, the fps of my manhood.
  17. Anyone seen this spinoff of Breaking Bad ? I've watched the first episode and I'm just sitting down to the second. I like it. It takes place pre-breaking bad so many of the same characters show up. Thoughts ?
  18. Has anyone purchased wings online before (I'm thinking La Nova) and had them shipped to another city? I'm thinking of doing it for the game but I'm wondering how they turn out on the other end. Other recommendations would be appreciated.
  19. It's amazing. We're on the threshold of nuclear fusion. Atom thick membranes are being developed to isolate salt from seawater. The power of the Sun, Wind, and Water are being harnessed on a mass scale. What are the dangers? What is the potential... of Science?
  20. I'm sure this thread will have it's detractors but I want a place to talk without too much subterfuge and this place always seems to have just the right amount of input. Soooo...I'm in a league that is implementing keepers One per team from last year. The round you drafted him in, is the round pick you forfeit this year. So my conundrum is Julius Thomas vs Emanuel Sanders. I drafted Thomas in the 12th round and Sanders in the 11th so I think the compensation is negligible but I'm concerned Sanders might have a huge year in Denver and may actually take away catches from Thomas. Thoughts..
  21. Well, GMTM got in on the challenge: http://youtu.be/VzuQlIvIWgo What are your thoughts on this trend? Have you done it? What's your favorite video so far?
  22. I'm no American Picker, but something caught my eye at the local Goodwill, so I grabbed it. I really have no idea if it's worth anything (well, I bought it, so it's worth something). It's 26 inches wide, 39 inches tall and 2.5 inches deep. It has old hardware on the back and no manufacturer information. There's sort of a corrugated cardboard backing on the back of the mirror, so of course the first thing I did was pull it back gently to see if there was an original copy of the Constitution or a Bobby Jones autographed scorecard or something tucked in there. No such luck. Some of the items in the frame are intriguing. The doo-daddy with the golf ball handle that looks like a paddle might be a scoop they used a long time ago to mound up sand to tee your ball on (pre- golf tee). The balls at the bottom look very old. They're not dimpled like modern balls. One of the iron heads has curved grooves, another a textured pattern. There's a box with tees that says Bobby Tees. The medallion says Nice Country Club. The plaque (or little book) says Royal and Ancient Game of Golf. Some of the items look like they're lacquered (?). It doesn't look like anything that would have been mass produced. Any idea what I have here? I don't want to get 100 bucks for it on eBay and then find out it's a priceless treasure from St. Andrews worth millions!
  23. I've been thinking for a while about starting an OT thread to see if there are any other board members here who work in a health care related field. Not sure if there will be enough interest or not. Aside from Woody our resident MD, are there any other docs, PAs, NPs, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, PTs, imaging folks, dental, etc here? I recently read that 1 in 8 Americans work in health care, so surely there must be. Would be interesting to hear about different specialties, what you love and hate about your particular field, any interesting stories of patient interaction both good and bad, how the ACA has impacted your job...anything at all really. I'm starting PA school next year and I can't wait. Would love any advice from others who have already been down that road. I'm 45 so this will be a second career for me, and I have not previously worked in health care (although I've been a direct patient care volunteer at Hospice for the last year to get some experience). I've also done some PA shadowing and I hope to do some more before school starts. Well, I'm not sure how many people are actually here during the offseason, so this will probably go nowhere, but so be it. B-)
  24. Mr Ghost. I am very late to the game again this year, but will be watching and putting a few scheckles on the Wood and SA Derby today. Any body you like in these races? I always enjoy your analysis, anything you can offer would be greatly appreciated..
  25. NLRB rules that, in revenue sports, athletes are employees. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/10677763/northwestern-wildcats-football-players-win-bid-unionize If colleges start paying athletes, It could be a huge incentive to bring top Juniors Players to the NCAA.
