  1. Linus was playing great last night before he got hurt. If I recall, he was starting to play pretty well last season too before getting hurt in late January. Hopefully he is back real soon To the negative though, he really shouldn’t have had to stand on his head against NJ. We were handing out scoring chances like Halloween candy
  2. You know how on a power play you try to retain possession and only take the really, really good shot opportunities? Players don’t just take any shot but instead they wait and set up for the premium chances In overtime, similar to the power play, players should retain possession until that golden opportunity presents. How is that the Sabres don’t seem to realize that puck possession is critical in OT? In simple terms, if you don’t lose possession you can’t lose OT. It seems the good teams are much smarter than the Sabres when it comes to puck possession in OT
  3. The sticks of today allow a harder shot compared to the olden days and the wooden sticks. To get that extra though it seems players strive for that whippiness in the shaft in order to get better shot speed. The thing that aggravates me as a viewer is that too many times they sacrifice release time in order to get that harder shot. The extra speed on the shot is very often not worth the delay in release. It has been many years since I played but it still holds today that allowing the goalie to square up is going to cost you goals. Fire the damn puck !! ... is what I yell at the TV. Hasn’t helped so far
  4. I have used the MyOneBuffalo app for Bills tickets and have access to my few upcoming Sabres tickets too. It worked OK for me but I have read lots of complaints of slow access at the stadium gates. Tip: Move your tickets to your Apple wallet if possible before getting to the gate. Also, apparently ticket barcode screenshots (which worked last year) will no longer work for more than a minute or so because the codes apparently get 'refreshed' regularly. The Apple wallet handles this refreshing automatically so one can transfer the tix to the wallet ahead of time.
  5. Well, you are correct that Laine is young enough to be around for several years of the Sabres future. The future I was referring to are the 2 first round picks.
  6. That trade would be horrible and should be the end of Botterill. Essentially Botterill would be selling our future for a chance at saving his own butt this season. Where did I leave that torch?
  7. I haven't read through the entire thread but from what I have read, I think this opinion makes the most sense to me. If the thought is that we are just a single development year away from filling this 2C role from within our organization, why spend much in the way of future capital for this season? This is not going to be our year to make a deep playoff run. At best this season, with or without this 'missing piece', we could possibly win maybe one playoff series. (I did say at best). Save that future capital to build for 2-3 years out. Our goalie of the future should be ready by then and hopefully our core youth has developed by then too. If they are looking to acquire a 2C now, that player should fit into the 2-3 year plan for a run, not just a player brought in for a push this season. I would like to take that playoff step this season too but not at the expense of a more realistic 2-3 year push.
  8. As you know, better teams draft later and so those players are often in a better position to succeed than players drafted onto terrible teams. Perhaps some of the Sabres players wouldn't yet be playing regularly on a better team. The latest stretch has been frustrating but most knew they weren't really a top 8 team even during the streak. They were getting the breaks during the streak and now they are not getting those and worse they are getting more than their share of bad bounces. I think they are better than their recent stretch of games and are likely a middle of the pack team - which is where we hoped they would be at this stage. The course - from good to bad - to get to middling makes it tougher to take. I don't want to see them sacrifice any future assets to try to get to the playoffs this spring, especially on D. As much as anyone I would love to see them get hot and get into the playoffs. The experience would be great and the fans deserve it, without a doubt. However, I don't want any short term fixes that cost us young players or picks. Stay the course.
