  1. Can't say I'm that excited about hearing Fishing in the Dark 40 times this year but I have a feeling I will make my peace with it.
  2. Would you feel less sad if we defined success at a standard so high that the team couldn't possibly achieve only to watch them fall miserably short? This franchise has been a perennial lottery favorite for going on a decade and owns the NHL's longest playoff drought. Being in the playoff picture in March would be a resounding success by an measure. I know some of you love the tough talk about Stanley Cup being the only acceptable goal every year buts that hollow bluster. The Sabres were at rock bottom 7 months ago. No hope left. Even talking about the playoffs as a possibility in 2023 is a minor miracle in my opinion.
  3. He gets pushed off the puck. Definitely needs to cultivate mass. He has had some ridiculous assists and setups when he finds space and time.
  4. The prospects are in a continuing state of mattering. They matter now but they also mattered yesterday. They will matter tomorrow as well.
  5. Once he recovered from his wrist injury late last year he finally showed me something 5v5. Before that he looked mostly like a PP specialist. Glad hes back on a reasonable deal but if Quinn pans out I don't think VO sees another contract in BUF.
  6. Don't get too excited or Golisano will come rub your nose in the carpet.
  7. What do you call it when people trade anecdotes comparing their own employment experience to running an NHL an franchise as a basis for supporting an opinion that the guy who built a $40 billon company is an unscrupulous, psycho that doesn't know anything about leadership or management? We have people using this one story as a basis for all sorts of judgements and "insights" into his psyche. Perhaps Tom should have cut the story about holding Darcy's feet to the fire for 45 minutes and gone with the chapter about the time payroll processing was late and a meeting was held with all the department leads to diagnose the issue and enable protocols to avoid similar issues in the future. That would be a real page turner.
  8. Thats neat. I have a job too! I'm sure Golisano would be super interested in learning more about the leadership styles that made MattPie and SmelikZhitnik the message board phenoms that we are today.
  9. Seems like it might have been warranted. When something goes wrong and a room full of highly paid professionals can't even muster a thought as to whose responsibility it was? Thats an accountability issue that wouldn't fly at Burger King. Maybe it makes Golisano a prick but I bet a lesson was learned that day: take ownership and treat it like its your own money. If you don't want to stew for 45 minutes, take responsibility for your mistakes.
  10. That is called a negotiation tactic. The next person to talk usually loses. You say your piece then STFU and watch them squirm. I had a call with my old boss go to 20 minutes of silence punctuated only by him asking if I was still on the line. I confirmed and we went back to silence where he waited for something that wasn't happening.
  11. Where is Savoie expected to play next year? Any chance we see him in Rochester or does he need another year in the WHL? Nevermind: caught up with the rest of the class and see that Savoie is either playing in the W or the NHL until the year he turns 20. https://www.stanleycupofchowder.com/2012/8/1/3213217/bruins-nhl-chl-ahl-agreement-CBA-talks-2012
