    Diggs is a 2.

    We need a 1.

Please Stop.  The man is top 10 in almost all categories for the position.  Clearly a #1.  Does not excuse the fact if he brings in that 70 yard pass they probably win the game.  They needed to score a TD on the last drive and didn’t find a way.  Team failed.

Is the city cursed? Thirty years ago I would have laughed and said of course not.  If we are living in a simulation, there is a likelihood that the Creator/Programmer has some kind of algorithm to inflict pain on our fan base.  This loss cuts deep.

Which is what they should be doing with him now that UPL has actually been given the net as the 1 (and not a 1A/1B situation).  Let him get some games in Ra-cha-cha but keep him up with the big team so that Comrie doesn't get games with the big team.

And keep reevaluating the situation and if conditions change change the plan.

KA and his “yo-yo” season theme continue, only this time with players back and forth to the AHL.  Embarrassing look for the GM on talent evaluation for this team’s goaltending.

The delusion is that we could get Markstrom for a trash defensemen and a 2nd round pick

That coupled with fact the top 9 are exactly the same.  The only substitution is Kulich in for Greenway, with Benson.  Because the top nine has been so spectacular all season. So, replace someone with defensive responsibility with another version of Olofsson.  Check.

I’m on board with a big name shake up.

Yes, I believe I do. Tanev is not afraid to block a shot and plays hard. By trading one of the longtime core players you show that no one is safe if they can't play well. Rosén will not have a spot on the team. And I believe that is the price to pay if we want to take him in front of other teams, to show that we are serious.

Your offer is about equal to what the Sens offered Arizona for Chychrun last year at the deadline which was a conditional 1st, conditional second and a second.  In addition to that, Chychrun a.) is in his prime, and b.) had term on the contract.  Tanev - neither.
First of all, Calgary is climbing in the standings, and at this time, not a seller. Second, Tanev is a nice idea in free agency this summer, where you don’t need to trade assets, just overpay. Third, I think the assumption in OPs thread is the Sabres are selling assets, not buying rentals to help them make the playoffs. Playoffs?

He needs to play better. No question about it.

Krebs has a propensity to lose the puck at the point or get a shot blocked at the top of the Offensive zone resulting in transition for the opposition.  Maybe one of our assistant coaches like Matt Ellis can work with him on obtaining a skill set to maintain possession and avoid shot blocks.

  6. Sabres have not won 4 of 5 all season. Can’t let myself think they will win, but as long they don’t lay down like against Columbus, New Jersey, et al.  UPL has won three in a row, so I assume he gets the start. Thatcher is taking two out every three starts, and they have Columbus next, so hopefully we see him this afternoon.  A true test.  A 1pm start here on the west coast. Not ideal, but…might work.

I’m in the Buffalo tv market (ROC) and carry spectrum cable for the sole purpose of watching the Sabres.  I still watch every game and attend a few. I will shut it off and find something else to do if the result looks bleak. That’s new for me…my teen and 20-something fandom wouldn’t have allowed for that (I’m 44).

My media and viewing habits revolve solely on sports.  I haven’t missed a Bills game since I was a kid. I watch every available minute of Virginia Tech football. I regularly go to Amerks and Knighthawks games. I used to pirate Red Sox games four times a week.

And bar none, I care most about the Sabres franchise above all else. I think about this team everyday and this site is one of my first stops daily.

But I’ve been beaten down over time. I loved hockey so much I used to get center ice and watch the league every single night. Not anymore.

It is so frustrating rooting for a perennial loser. I could never quit the Sabres or hockey, but I would also never criticize someone for doing exactly that.  It has been maddening in Sabrehood for far too long.

So much of this resonates for me.  Never will quit watching, but definitely found myself turning off in the second or third period more than I recall.  I enjoy the Bills games so much more these days.  Partly because in So Cal, there is no consensus team.  In my circle I have Packer, Raider, Cowboys, Broncos, Dolphin and Patriots fans, so always a meetup or conversation or trash talking before, during or after they play. Partly because my son is a Josh Allen fan, and is interested in watching with me. And obviously the product itself is so much better. I usually take him to the Sabres/Ducks games but it’s more him humoring his old man.  He almost never watches a game on TV.  Even the west coast road trip that start at 7pm local.  The Sabres also keep me connected to my father and brother who reside in WNY.  I FaceTime them between periods when they watch together.
I’ll watch at least three other NHL games a week besides the Sabres, so my interest in the sport hasn’t waned.  Tonight was Colorado vs Vegas.  I dream of how a real GM with foresight and some luck could take our roster and turn it into a group like the Avalanche.  When the Sabres are eliminated from playoff contention I’ll turn to MLB and the Yankees.  And as for SS, I agree with other posters.  I appreciate the insight, opinion and camaraderie of the group.  Not a social media person so I rely on this place for news and information about the NHL.

  8. Sabres Live - Connor Clifton talking about how challenging it was playing his offhand for the first part of the season.  Then it was during a session in the sauna where EJ talks to him about moving to the other side.  Should we be happy that EJ is providing the tutelage we expected he might be, or disappointed that this change was not prompted by the coaching staff sooner.  Or both?  Dude sounded like he is happy paired with Mule, and believes the last few games is the type of player he will be moving forward.  Color me concerned about the coaches, especially the assistants.

It was a 6-1 heater due to an overtime loss to the Eagles on the road, but I’ll take it. Winning the division and wrapping up the 2 seed was just so important as two potential home games is huge.

Shout out to McD and the defense and while I’m pissed about not getting a half yard to salt the game earlier, the offense was dominant when not shooting itself in the foot and Josh more than atoned for his gaffs.

+1 on this.  The adjustments made at halftime stymied the Miami offense.  In addition to good game planning, he made the right decisions all night, going for it on 4th down multiple times and a good challenge.  The boys could have quit after the Philly loss but did not.  They played hard for their coach.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the new D combos:   Power-EJ, and Muel-Clifton?

It appeared to me that DG did not stick to the defensive pairs for long.

Side note:  Clifton is now +1.  I recall him being -7 when Clifton hate was gaining momentum.

According to Moneypuck, the Sabres played  ~8 minutes TOI (5v5) with different combinations.  Doesn’t seem different from what other teams do, especially with so many PP, And PKs which create scenarios for a change to a pairing on the next shift.  What I also found interesting was Clifton’s minutes/ TOI overall (19:32), and the fact that outside the top three pairings, the next two highest were Clifton with Dahlin, and Clifton and Power.  I took a giant bong hit of hopium last night that this kid becomes an asset moving forward rather than an excuse.

Youngest team in the league won't be winning all the time. Granato and Adams should be allowed A LOT of leeway to try and figure this thing out. Losing sucks, but overreacting and firing everyone, trading away great young players and taking on some expensive vets is not the answer, IMO, Just sit back, say, "It is what it is" and get use to more losing for the time being and let this cake bake.

Josh Allen can run.. he can't throw the ball for a damn right now. The problem is a QB needs to do both..

Yeah.. they get the 2 seed.. so what.  Success if winning a SB or even getting there for this team. No chance in hell they do it. PHI has lost a few games in a row because their defense or lack thereof has been exposed.

A win is a win.. but I wouldn't look at today's game and bet on the game next week.  The team is not good.  You say it yourself, it's ugly. Why insist I put lipstick on the pig?  It was an ugly win that does not inspire confidence against better opponents who can execute. I don't need to post after a loss.. what's the point?  There are a lot of fans who seem insistent that this team is better than they play.. not sure how that works... but like I said after last years season when everyone was so high on this team... "You ain't won $!@#, until you in !@#$."

I'd figure every Buffalo fan would know that by now.

Sure.. the 2 seed.. as I said above. They then do what? The Bills should have had 21 points in the first few minutes of the game. They are inept and a GOOD team will beat them.

So much negativity, and misguided.  The mere fact they have the chance to be the two seed in the AFC suggests they are good.  Number 5 in points scored, 7th in Rush yards, 5th in rush TDs, 1st in sacks allowed.  And the Defense has similar rankings amongst the remainder of the league - 4th points allowed, 1st in takeaways 3rd fumbles, 5th in interceptions.  3rd in sacks, and 1st in Pass TD’s against.  All with significant games missed by contributors like D Jones, Matt Milano and T. White.

Is it how we thought they could gain a #2 seed in the AFC, probably not.  I didn’t anticipate losing to the Jets, New England, or Denver but such is life.

A second seed, if they can win Sunday gives them a winnable game in the first round, and a potential rematch against a very flawed Chiefs team, only this game in the confines of Orchard Park.  Something we have been waiting to see for 4 years.

And yes, Baltimore is superior, but it doesn’t mean the Bills can’t beat them.  They did last year, in Baltimore.

Start 2024 with a positive outlook on the Bills and send them all your positive energy.

Seeing online that the Bills clinch a playoff spot next week with either a win (which gets them the 2 seed), a Steelers loss, or a Jags loss; either of the latter 2 guaranteeing at worst the 7 seed.  But, if Indy and Houston tie, then the Bills would be the 7 in a worst case even if all 3 of those other games don't go their way.

A Bills tie would also clinch them the 6 seed.  (None of those other four 9-7 teams could get to 10-1/2 wins.)

Jags play the Titans, and Pitt playing a Baltimore squad that will rest numerous starters.  No one wants to see a Chubb-like injury in a meaningless game. Baltimore might sit half the starting line up.  Just win baby.  Plus, the thought of potentially hosting two playoff games is something I could not let myself think about 6 weeks ago.
