The plan is unfinished. As proposed, it doesn’t affect their season-ticket holder base at all.
And it doesn’t even prevent those North of the border from buying tickets, it just makes them wait until the last-minute.

Basically all it is attempting to do is make sure the local market has an extended opportunity to fill the arena before opening the gates to the invading Huns.

Sure but the ‘local market’ also includes southern Ontario.

  2. That really is horsesh1t.

Wont apply to me now that I’m STH but prior to this year I would be logging on right when tickets went on sale to try and grab leaf Sabres tickets to cheer on the Sabres.  As I said, the atmosphere is so fun for those games.  There are tons of Sabres fans in southern Ontario.  I would be pissed if I got blocked out because my postal code doesn’t say I live right in town yet I’ve followed and spent so much on Sabres tickets and merch over the past 30 years.

    It’s loser stuff.

Get the STH base way back up. Make it so those STH’s don’t want to sell their most valuable tickets.

You do that by being a good hockey team, not through artificial market restraints. We’re not Florida or Tampa, ffs.

New season ticket holder here.  NFW I'm selling the leaf games.  Those are my favorite games to attend.  The energy in the building on those nights is so much fun.

As you say, the best way for people to want to buy tickets and go to the games is putting an exciting product out there to watch, not with some BS administrative restriction.  I'm from southern Ontario and there are many Sabres fans from Ontario.  Last thing they want to do is start alienating the fanbase.

  4. I think that 2 game AHL stint has really tempered a lot of expectations.  That’s probably a good thing.  But it was only 2 games.  I’m very interested to see how his summer training went and how he looks first amongst his peers in the prospects challenge and then come training camp and preseason.  If he looks good there’s no harm in seeing a few nhl games.  Kid has been deemed an exceptional status player for a few years now.

  5. Looking forward to seeing what they roll out.  My biggest complaint (same with bills) is the length of lines and time spent waiting at concession stands.  Sounds like they are aware and working on this major issue.  Will be interesting to see how much these ideas improve that experience this season.

Some good improvements mentioned overall. Not ALL improvements they have planned were mentioned in the article. So I expect others besides those. Albeit small changes, but changes nonetheless. Keeping Delaware North is unfortunate. But it is what it is.

Agreed on Delaware North.  How long is their deal with Sabres and Keybank?  Perhaps losing the Bills contract may be a wake up call and result in a better product for Sabres?  Maybe just wishful thinking…

The hand wringing over losing Boosh is something. I already don't care he's gone.

Oh no! This guy got traded. Lol, Novikov and Johnson will probably produce better results.

Boosh only had one year left on his deal.  Novikov won't be a factor for the Sabres this year.  Let's hope Johnson is an upgrade.

    Just now, Brawndo said:

The Sabres Analytics Department would disagree with Boosh being a better option. Stillman and Bryson are actually have better metrics in enough categories to justify keeping them over Him.

Really?  Bryson looked like a tirefire liability all season.  Stillman didn't look much better when he was dressed.

I think there might be a little divide between how some people think Boosh played and how he actually played last season.

This might have been Boosh reading the tea leaves and asking to be moved to somewhere that he could play a regular shift.

I don't think Boosh was amazing or anything but if we see an injury or two I would feel better running him out there than Stillman/Bryson/more E Johnson minutes etc.

Doing right for the player is what losing franchises do. We continue to be sad sack.

Agreed. Feels like we finally had a bit of d depth and they make this trade?  He’s getting paid more than anyone can dream to play hockey.

This summer already feels like a huge missed opportunity to ensure the Sabres take the next step.  This trade is the cherry on top…

I would presume that UPL's waiver status has a lot to do with the lack of additional competition.

Effectively its Levi's job to lose and as long as UPL beats out Comrie we'll have no roster problems. Where issues arise is if Comrie plays better than UPL since we can't conceivably waive UPL without a high likelihood of losing him.

    Does it really matter?

I'm curious if anyone thinks we have any actual stars in the pipeline?

And by stars I mean players who are in the conversation when people are talking about NHL stars, not really good players and local heroes: Dahlin and Thompson last year emerged as stars. Eichel is a star. Miller was a star.  Skinner and Vanek and Reinhart and Pominville and Drury were very good first line players, but not stars. Hasek was a superstar.

I think Power could be a star and if anyone might join him it will be Levi.

I have very high hopes for Quinn reaching that Pominville level and Cozens is already close, but it's no guarantee.

Beyond that, many others could get there, but I suspect most of our best prospects will fall somewhere between Rasmus Asplund and JP Dumont.

Maybe it’s recency bias but I’ll throw my hat in the Zach Benson ring.  His vision is unreal.  His battle and defensive game for his age is very good.  Out of all the prospects it would surprise me least if he becomes a star.

  11. I just picked up tickets for the Friday night game against Montreal and Saturday night against Jersey.  We should be icing a pretty exciting lineup.

Looks like tickets go on sale tomorrow and early crack at them tonight for STH.  $10 for general admission seating.  Should be pretty good hockey and Harbour Center is always a nice venue for watching.

  12. I don’t think we should completely assume one of these rookies we have knocking at the door won’t make it.  Maybe training camp rolls around and Savoie or Kulich show they belong (or Atleast 9 game look).  That’s what I’m hoping.

Dudacek had a good thread on projected arrivals of our prospects.  I think many are thinking Kulich Savoie and maybe even benson will be ready for the Sabres next season.  Not sure there’s room or we would want to break in 3 rookie forwards in one season (especially in another year from now with high expectations).

Only if they prove they belong but I’m very open to one of the rookies making the team this year to help bolster a third scoring line.

    So what's Adams failed out?

The easy low hanging fruit is goaltending.

I'm as optimistic as any about Levi but history shows rookie goaltenders rarely put up good numbers in their first season.  Pair that with the tire fire we had last year and Adams is playing with fire imo.  So much invested in this young core and its borderline stunning that yet again Adams fails to substantially upgrade goaltending.  I hope its not our achilles heel but its jumping off the page as an obvious concern.

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse but just because I guy was drafted high and at one time was “maybe” considered a prospect doesn’t mean Magic Don can fix him.

By all acceptable goaltending metrics UPL has had one “less then half season” in the ECHL were he wasn’t considered one of the leagues worst goalies. How long can we blame hip surgery and defensive systems?

If Buffalo was going into this season with two “top end prospects” I wouldn’t be happy but I’d understand. To be going into this season hoping that Levi defies history and UPL suddenly becomes average is management malpractice, especially when there is a solution that only cost money, a draft choice and the team’s fifth best prospect.

Right?  This is almost getting stupid at this point.  To have such a deep young team and rely on a rookie and….nothing behind him is crazy.

  15. I’m sure this is an unpopular opinion because Peca was our heart and soul but I loved that Tim Connolly trade.  Absolute shame he suffered the nasty concussions.  He was an absolute wizard with the puck.

Game 1 against the sens in 05/06 is my favorite Sabres game of all time and he was just so incredible when healthy, and in that game in particular.
