This doesn't match the eye test at 5-on-5 IMHO, but he's been terrific on the PK, as has the rest of the team.  (I think the OP's #fancystat includes PK, but please correct me if I'm wrong.)

In any case he has clearly made significant improvements defensively, which is great.

I’m not discounting it even if it’s shown more on the pk. It has been a revelation this year and he either didn’t get the right opportunity in years past or flat out didn’t have the defensive awareness and/or ability to defend with his reach in years past.  He has that this year and even if it helps the pk more than 5 on 5 it’s been a nice surprise and welcomed addition to his game.

Who really thinks they did enough in the off season?

    Huge missed opportunity imo.

Feels like the way things finished last year we were a big addition or two from taking right off.  Instead, we got Clifton and Johnson (although EJ has really helped the PK).

We knew before free agency that Quinn was going to be out long term but the answer seems to have been not to trade VO.  Nobody else brought in.

I always lament the same thing. We’ve seen other clubs, many of them, have up cycles where they are really solid and make the playoffs for a few years. Down cycles where they miss for a couple years, rebuild and make the playoffs for a few more years, go back down, etc..  New Jersey is another example.  Meanwhile Buffalo is the only club that just stays down, for eternity! The fans here deserve so much better.

It’s a salary cap league.  What the Sabres are doing is unprecedented.  Ok I’m drunk and logging off.

Will be there Sunday cheering them on…..

We have a goalie and coaching problem. Effectively the same issues exist from last season.

Why do we have a goalie in the rotation who sucks at break-aways when the team is prone to defensive breakdowns that allow break-aways?

Exactly this.  His lateral movement and success on breakaways is way below average. Maybe on a defensively structured team he would look ok but that’s not how meatballs has this team playing and the strength of the team is more run and gun yet give up chances. It’s also why Levi should be better for this team as those are his strengths.  But he’s 21.  Sabres fans shouldn’t be asked to continue to wait forever.

Goaltending was the issue last season.  Goaltending was the issue all offseason.  Goaltending is still the issue 8 games and 3-5 record into the season.

Definitely can see after 8 games that goaltending will be the problem again, as many could predict. Looks like UPL at home Sunday.

It’s like we just keep re-living Groundhog Day.  Ya our goaltending killed us last year but I’m sure this rookie will change everything despite what all recent history has told us.  ***** off.   We deserve better.

  6. I pay for season tickets.  I pay for the full nhl streaming package for all Sabres game which is only available in Canada.  As I sit downtown I can’t watch the friggen game tonight because I'm not paying again for some other streaming package for the odd time I'm here and team is on the road.

Having said that, if they are in the game after the first, and sabrespace tells me they are playing well, I’ll make my way out to a downtown establishment and grab a beer to watch there.

I can already see us trying to tell wookie in March that yes, it is Kevyn's fault Dahlin is laboring an injury as we frantically chase 8th from 9 points out in February, because he built a team that required this sort of thing

I’m trying not to overreact to yet another loss but Adams sitting on his hands all summer is killing this team.  He knew about Quinn’s injury prior to free agency even opening and he elected to keep VO as a replacement.  No goaltender brought in.  EJ and Clifton the only D.  This sucks.

I still maintain that if you are a die hard, hard core hockey fan, one who lives and dies with the Sabres and the game of hockey.....then you may now be BEST served by watching the game on Television at home rather than in the arena.  Large screen-high def viewing, camera angles that show clearer action/more detail than you can see at most seats in the arena.  Replays not on a scoreboard or your phone but on your own big screen.  The ability to go on the computer and read instant analysis while loading up replays of plays or goals and viewing them frame-by-frame if you wish.

The Arena experience...well, you may or may not have the best view of the game.  You have the loud music pumped into the arena, the announcer or scoreboard employing the fans to 'get loud'. More promotions than replays.  We all know what it is like.

So again, when I really REALLY care about a particular game, that is the game I want to watch at home. By myself, with my laptop next to me or on the big screen but sitting at my desk with my computer already fired up.  The day (and I THINK it is coming soon) when you can subscribe to a package and be able to log into an app or website and select whatever camera angle you want...once that happens there will be virtually zero reason for the 'hard core/the game is all that matters' fan to go to the arena.

If you want many of us to give up that at-home experience and go to a game, then the 'outside' entertainment better be top notch, not annoying.  The seats I sit in better be comfortable, not with cracks in them and with broken cupholders.  If I'm going to pay $10+ for food and more for a drink it better be pretty darn good.

The 'arena experience' is important. VERY important.  People can joke about the cracks in the concrete and the bad sound system or the broken cupholders, but that stuff DOES matter. For many people, they are giving up a little bit of a 'true viewing' experience at home to to to the game, and THOSE things are the difference makers.

While I won’t deny the benefits you lay out, I would just counter that the live entertainment and atmosphere when the team is consistently winning (ofcourse I realize it’s been awhile) is unmatched.  High fiving random strangers who care about the team like you, feeling the gasp of 18,000 people in a close play is one of those unique experiences in life.  I can certainly appreciate those that want to fire up twenty views of a play on their big screen but can also appreciate the buzz and excitement that comes from watching live professional sports.
