Right on time given my quoted post below, Something to sink our teeth into ^
So you would say you find it a reasonable likelihood that, in KA’s reckoning, this improves the team next season
I have as many doubts as you regarding KA. But I don't see why this wouldn't be a strong possibility.

I mean, they are 2.5 years apart. If you keep Casey yes you have the better player now, and maybe Byram’s improvement gets him back to what he was. But why isn’t Casey being afforded that same likelihood? If I had to guess who was more likely to improve, I’d go with Casey, given trajectory
If you get Byram back to what he was then this trade would have cost us way more than Casey. Byram doesn't even become available without his injury risk. Undoubtedly there is risk here. But I'm willing to take a shot based on the pedigree and what he's shown so far. Not just putting up video game numbers in junior. Playing top pairing 5 on 5 minutes in the Stanley cup finals. Less than 24 months ago. Hopefully he can stay healthy. For Casey Mittlestadt I'm taking that risk all day.

This. He's actually done it. In the NHL. He's 22.

Could you imagine time traveling from 2 years ago and see everyone this upset about trading Casey freaking Mittelstadt.?
He’s the face of Sabres mediocrity.
Especially if someone mentions the deal is Mitts for Byram straight up. Ya ok.

He's played 55 games in his age 22 season. And even with his injuries - he has already scored more points than mittelstadt did through his age 22 season... as a puck-moving defenseman.
Plus I'm reading a ton of Avs fans talking about how he was their best dman during their cup run two years ago. He's had injuries to be sure. There's also enough there that it wouldn't shock me he plays well for us next season. This isn't a draft pick lottery ticket we won't see for 5 years. This is a 22 year old young man who comes with a high pedigree and alteast demonstrated in the past he can play big minutes in the NHL when the stakes are at their highest.

Am I missing something? Can't believe the anger here. Casey was this franchise whipping boy up until maybe 18 months ago. He's playing awesome in (shocker) a contract year. I don't know I trust giving him the money that would be necessary here.
Our D has been brutal. Can Byram be good enough to keep Clifton out of the top 4?

I was there today and waiting to see if they would give the salute at the end. Then I realized they actually have to win first.

A ***** hockey team is one thing. Actively alienating the few fans out there supporting you is a whole other line.

Ironically, since the home wins are so scarce, most of us never knew this was happening. My TV feed in ESPN+dies not include post game.
Hahhahah so true. I’ve been to about a dozen home games this year and seen them win maybe 3 times. I’m a season ticket holder and had no idea this was even happening.
I laughed. Then I cried.- 2

Presuming R Johnson isn't the odd man out next game, that's pretty much the best permutation of pairings they can come up with at this point in time.
While I do agree, E Johnson playing second-pairing minutes doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.......

Bodies were needed, better ones. Ones that wouldn't be waived and literally ignored by the entire NHL. It matters because Kevyn Adams ***** failed on a grand scale to deal with this offseason and now 3 of the guys he just had to keep around, have all been waived. This has nothing to do with the cap floor. So sure bodies were needed but clearly these ones werent as they have all easily been replaced without any fuss at all.
Remember when KA looked everyone in the eye preseason and told us he thought goaltending was one of the strengths of this team?

Any thoughts on how the power play looked?
I didn’t notice much improvement but liked some of the line combos. Saw the cozens line with benson and Dahlin at the point and it moved.

I find it amazing how little it takes for this board to completely melt down. It's embarrassing.

No. They should hire them today.
Why keep a lame duck coach and GM? Even if the playoffs are a pipe dream this season I would much rather bring in the next guys now so the coach has the rest of the season to begin implementing their system in hopes of jumping out to a good start from day 1 next season. The GM would also be given this trade deadline to try and better the franchise instead of waiting for the summer.

The ***** it is. Dahlin's one of the only consistent and good players on this hell bound garbage barge.
Him diving to block shots at our empty net in a lost cause may have been a bit reckless but unbelievable effort. Surprising anyone would question that of all things.

Just as much risk we overpay Mitts and he reverts to who he has been most of his career.
