Average weight of Sabres 2021 draft picks was 180lbs and they drafted 5 players who are 6’2”+.

And the majority of them will add 15-20 pounds before they get to the NHL.

My wife and I had a very interesting conversation this morning. Her cousin emailed her and all of her siblings and their families to see about everyone having a giant group vacation in the south this year.

Basically like a huge family vacation, including spouses/children, boyfriends/girlfriends etc.

My wife and I were talking about this and neither of us want to go to this and declined the invitation. My wife gets 2 weeks vacation per year and wants to do a vacation with just her and me (we dont have children)

I didnt want to go because i generally hate almost everyone in her entire family and having to do a vacation with them seems more like hell than a vacation. However, it got me thinking, would i want to do this if it was my family and not hers?  I thought about it and realized, i would not want to do this at all.

If we are on vacation, we want to be able to do what we want, not what everyone else wants. In fact, we realized that even during holidays we dont really want to see anyone either. I always say when my mother dies, i would never see anyone from my family again.

my wife thinks this is abnormal to not want to spend time with family, i think its normal. Do you guys enjoy spending time with extended family?  would you want to go to a big group family vacation. the thought of it makes me cringe

    I'm just like you...but I wouldn't turn down a family vacation.

Life is too short, the opportunity to make those memories only comes around every so often.

When thoughtful people put together a plan, you just don’t look at the best case scenario and say that’s our direction. People do risk analysis. They ask “what if”.

The best case scenario for the tank was to acquire Jack Eichel and use the remaining assets to build a contender. That implies a better team drafting in the late first round.

but when sitting down in devising a plan, what was the “what if“ if I contender failed to materialize?

One logical outcome is that we continue to draft high choices. i.e. We just continue to acquire more talent.

Dylan Cozens is as much a product of the tank as Sam and Jack. So is Casey, so is Rasmus, so is Quinn. You can extend this to those high second rounders too.

Just because option one didn’t pan out, doesn’t mean that option two still isn’t in progress.

Sam Reinhart is the product of being bad.

Jack Eichel is the product of the tank.

Dylan Cozens and the other names you mentioned are the products of a rebuild.

    They are all very different.

Sorry, 2 goalies in the system isn't enough. Draft one every year. Not saying 1st round, but somewhere. Can never have too many. They are always a valuable commodity.

I can agree with taking one somewhere in the draft, but I don't agree with spending a first round pick on a goalie right now.

Undrafted Nick Malik in the 4th/5th round is a fine addition to the goalie pool.

Sure. I'll take more goalies, I just don't want to spend a first round pick on one right now.

That is, IF the GM even wanted to pursue Hall. And Hall would not have been a Buffalo Sabre, unless KA agreed and pursued it. If Krueger wanted Hall, but for some reason KA disagreed… He wouldn’t have been here. Krueger may have had influence… But he didn’t have the ultimate say over KA.  I can’t believe he had that much power.

Oh, see that's where we really differ...I think Krueger had more power than we'll ever know.

I think he was the de facto GM last offseason, given the players we signed.

what have either of those proven? Look at the final 4 teams. all 4 have goalies drafted in Round 1.

Keep drafting them until you get it right.

i will admit that Skinner contract is ugly..Sabers would probably have to spend on some UFA's if Skinner, Eichel, Samson and Risto were gone just to get to the floor

What opportunity has either of them had? Luukkonen had a few games on awful Rochester and Buffalo teams. Portillo was a freshman.

Portillo will prove this year that he is the future.

And if Hall scored 30 goals this past season… He would not be among your list of “negative things“ KA has done.

so don’t you think that maybe… Just maybe you’re blaming KA for Halls lack of production? And does it need to be reminded yet again… That Hall was the biggest… Yes the biggest UFA on the market when KA landed him. and sure you can be pessimistic and say well Hall only came the Buffalo because of Kruger. That very well may be true… Nevertheless KA is the GM… He is the one that targeted and landed him. He gets credit for that. Hall gets credit for being practically useless all season long. There was a big gaping hole at 2C. And even though I hate Staal with a passion, it was a reasonable, logical acquisition to get Staal to fill that hole. Could he have done better? Possibly. He also could’ve done a hell of a lot worse. The other points you made… I completely agree with. Especially the goaltending. KA dropped the ball to improve there.

Taylor Hall came to Buffalo for three reasons...Ralph Krueger, Jack Eichel and $8M.

Kevyn Adams had nothing to do with it, it would've happened no matter who the GM was.

The seasons we chose to lose on purpose are my all time lows.  It's still unconscionable to me that we lost on purpose.

It's unconscionable to me how some people still don't understand the concept and that it actually worked.

It's everything after that that's been the problem.

Even our tank teams had 20 goal scorers....

Who on this team, outside of Jack and Sam, can score 20 goals? Olofsson needs Jack and is awful 5-on-5. Skinner is washed up. That's about it. Unless Cozens and Mittelstadt become great setup guys overnight, I don't see it. I saw someone mention guys like Thompson and Bjork could be 20-goal guys, that's a pipe dream.

In 2014-15 the Sabres had one 20-goal scorer. Tyler Ennis. And he scored exactly 20 goals. (The next closest was Girgensons with 15 goals.)

They won't be gone. Neither will be traded, IMO. Sam will walk after next year, Jack is our property for the foreseeable future

I hope you're right, but I highly doubt either is here come October.

Honestly:  I think that for Sam, it's just not as much fun without Jack there.  I think they really are best buds.

I also think the lost season thing could be a valid point.  He's seen this before, he doesn't get too pumped up about padding stats during meaningless wins.  The cure is to start winning from the start and carry it through for a whole season.  If that doesn't happen next year, he will for sure want out.

I think so too...which is why if you want to keep Eichel happy, you need to re-sign Reinhart to a long-term deal.

  11. It starts with Byfield and Turcotte...and I think I need Kaliyev added as well.

From there, throw on some draft picks.

I'm not taking back any bad contracts either.

That gives us Byfield, Cozens, Mittelstadt, Turcotte down the middle...and, hopefully, Matty Beniers.

We would be stacked at center.

(EDIT: That leaves the Kings with Eichel, Kopitar, Vilardi and Kupari down the middle, which they should be very happy about.)

agree hardly think we gave up a ton for ROR...fact is that was probably the team's best trade ever (right up there with Briere steal). Of course we can also say that the ROR trade to St Lou was probably the team's worse ever trade...

That ROR trade to St. Louis is still devastating to me...it makes me so mad to think about it.

He's a player I wanted long before we ever got him. He's the first Sabres jersey I bought since my Hasek jersey in 1999. I hate Jason Botterill.
