But what would you expect? The PC with the bad news wasn't as positive as the PC with the good news. That shouldn't be a shock.

Tucson is towards the bottom of the AHL in attendance. The ownership is doing the best business move to keep hockey alive in Phoenix while working on the new Phoenix arena. Tucson isn’t a professional sports towns it’s Arizona Wildcats and nothing else because it’s a college town in my opinion. Go Sabres! Let’s Go
It's not like Rochester is packing them in either. It's minor league, and I still believe the Tucson fans will be sad to see them go, wtf wouldn't they.

I believe I saw this will all continue under the roadrunners branding
Tucson fans won't be happy losing their team. This ownership group is making a lot of enemies.

Agree with all of the above.
I hate when teams get moved. Ultimately we know its many times more important what the owners want, what the league wants, what 'dollars can be made' to make billionaires even bigger billionaires.
If there ever was a 'fans bill of rights', one of the top things on it should be that no fanbase ever loses a team, no team is moved.
The team also spent a lot of money on youth hockey. They provided free equipment for mites just starting out. Youth hockey is pretty big here, hate to see it suffer. My kids played 7 years, it was a great program.

Would be weird having the new SLC team's top prospects playing in Phoenix.
We've been stockpiling draft picks and to watch them develop and never play for Phoenix would be strange.

I personally think the Arizona fiasco is a black eye for the NHL. Bettman was trying to force a franchise on an area that clearly does not want one. Just because they are one of the biggest markets does not mean that a NHL franchise needs or they want one in their area. The Sabres are bad but Arizona was a tire fire.
It was poor ownership(s) and poor arena planning. It's not on the city or fans.
The final year in Glendale, the Coyotes outdrew both Buffalo and Ottawa.
Hockey has been here for decades, it would have done well with an arena in the right city.
Just because 30k people voted in Tempe and the majority of those votes were against, doesn't really reflect the potential support from almost 6 million in the area.
Just been a mess from the top throughout.

I admit, I'm curious to see the Phoenix fan reaction to their last home game, and how the team plays against McDavid.
I know a few people that went. A lot of really bummed out people.
The ticket prices were outrageous, I heard $1000 and up.
There's enough fans here to support a team, but crappy owner after crappy owner doomed the franchise. Reminds me of the Braves, crappy owner, bad arena situation, and the fans have up. The big difference is that the Braves tore apart a great team while the Yotes have a good foundation, a strong prospect pool and a boatload of high picks the next few drafts.
I only went to a game or two a year, but it was a great time. I'm very bummed.

As if Gary didn’t give Arizona every opportunity to succeed.
The big mistake of the nhl appears to me that they did a terrible job vetting new owners, each one was as bad as the prior one.

The name and logo stay with the old owner? Damn, I really thought the Utah 'yotes had a good ring to it.
What are they going to call them then the Salt Lake Slickers?
The colours could use a change though, that's for sure.
They'll wear white shirts with black ties.

Still 2X the seating of Mullett Arena... AND with a clear road to a new arena with government support.
I don't think NHL hockey will ever go back to Arizona.
Hard to say, the league obviously really wanted the team here and it sounds like this plan had been discussed for a while now, as the team worked towards a new arena.
Lack of information from the league and ownership has been really aggravating.

If they win the land deal, sounds like it will happen.
I believe the development plan they came up with for that land wasn't contingent on government funding and was mostly private.
The league will get a team back in Arizona again, it's one of their big goals. The only way it won't happen is if the entire state says they don't want hockey there. If the arena is privately funded, it will eventually happen
My guess is that there was a good chance the project would take longer than the 3 year plan. A lot of work needs to be done to prep the land. There's nothing there, fair amount of infrastructure before any building happens.

All the good organizations will have that covered. This one, not so much.
Who thinks players would pick Buffalo over SLC?
The players have been dealing with fans not showing up for a while now, can't imagine they want more of that.

I'd bet on Salt Lake b4 Buffalo at this point in time.
Being a Sabres fan in Phoenix, I've felt that the Coyotes were probably 2 years behind the Sabres in development, as the Sabres fell back this season, it's pretty even now.
If the Yotes high picks make quick progress, they'll be a top team very soon.

That’s good timing
So the team will play in a basketball arena that was only able to seat 10k for the frozen 4 because the arena isn't suitable for hockey, and wait a few years till the new arena is built...sounds awfully familiar.

Yep, although I'm sure the players love living in Phoenix, I'm not sure I understand the talk of player reluctance to SLC, aside from the frowning on drinking 🤪, I've heard it's very nice there.

I wonder if this move and the money being thrown around to make it happen peaks Pegula’s interest as far as selling the team. Would have to be a buyer willing to keep the team put.
To change directions, another aggressive owner will make things interesting in the trade and free agent market. Interesting which Coyotes players become available. I think most see Lawson Crouse as a good fit. Liam O’Brien as a 4th liner who is aggressive and will enforce would be a nice change of pace for this lineup too.
Wonder what the move means for Armstrong and the front office. Does Smith want a fresh start like an expansion team with all new hires under his watch.
Armstrong has been stockpiling high draft picks the last few years, they're loaded with prospects along with some good young talent on the big club. I would think he would keep things as they are. The team is setting themselves up for a bright future. Sucks for us that have been waiting for the players to get a little more experience.

I can't see them trading Crouse. There's a good reason why many teams would like to have him, he's a very effective player. Big, tough and has found a scoring touch.

In a bad season like this at least there is a few bright spots. Zac Benson is definitely one. 9 goals and 14 assists for an eighteen year old kid. He plays with grit, determination, vison and finesse. Just wondering what everyone things this kids upside will be.
When looking back ten years from now, will he be one of the best players in the league, a very solid player or just someone who gets by?
Just guess work here, no need to preface remarks with, "Obviously this is just a guess..." No kidding. 😘
I think he's going to be super good! Top ten in scoring, all star and Sabre playoff hero
He had some moments and you could see the big skill level. The year in the NHL probably was a positive for him over a year in juniors, but I have to think that an established player would have helped the team more. Benson had 3 or 4 stretches of no points over 10+ games in a row, a few goals mixed in there could have got us a few more points in the standings.

It wasn’t meant to be a shot toward you.
The future looking bright has been a fan narrative for the last three rebuilds. It was me just having a little fun with the concept as an aside to your analysis is all.
OK. Sorry for that. It's frustrating to follow 2 teams that always disappoint. I'm a bit upset at how this has come about.
The owners come out and insist , we will win the auction for the land, and now crickets for the last couple days.
