  1. I don’t mind Russ moving to the AFCW. Mahomes is 9-0 against Denver in his career. 21-3 against the AFCW overall. A divisional loss or two might be the difference between AFC championship game being played in OP vs. Arrowhead!

Also, I haven’t posted in forever and probably need a new username 😂

Watching that Bills - Patriots game was surreal for me.  So, I imagine that's what it's been like to watch a Bills - Patriots game as a Patriots fan for the last 20 ***** years.  I like this side of it much better!

The 31-0 home opener in ‘03 is the first game I vividly remember. That’s when I really got hooked on watching the Bills with my dad.
We all waited a very long time for another win like that! And I have a good feeling that this dominance has a bit more staying power 😉

On the other hand, if he does retire, the Bills should open betting as favorites for the division.

Brady retires. Bucs walk away from Jameis. Bill teaches him how to throw balls to guys wearing the same color jersey as him.

  4. I guess my thoughts are that Toronto is going to get their D help from someone else, if not us.
So if we think Kapanen (or other hypothetical player) is the best return, there’s no need to take less from someone else in an attempt to spurn Toronto.
It’s like when Ottawa wouldn’t trade Hoffman to Florida. They took a much lesser package from San Jose, who promptly flipped him to Florida.
I wouldn’t hurt my own team to hopefully hurt another team.

All that said- if I have two deals on the table that I view pretty equally, I’d trade my asset out of division and hope they wind up with someone worse/cost more.

I got one of those “timer” air fresheners today. Put if up on a shelf. Smells real nice but every time it goes off it scares the crap out of me. (Good thing it smells like fresh linen)

There’s one of those in the bathroom at work. It’s about 8 feet high on a side wall, right above the urinals. When it goes off, it might as well be in your ear. Plus, how humiliating. You mean to tell me that the bathroom didn’t smell bad enough for you to spray, but as soon as I walk in.... I tell myself it’s reactive instead of timed, just so I can be mad at it ?

I'm taking four credit hours of classes this semester, and when it's done, I will automatically pick up an along-the-way Master's degree by virtue of having passed my three qualifying exams at a PhD level.

I've decided that when that happens, I'm coming home.

The last six months have been an episode of me slowly losing any interest whatsoever in my physics research. It was in the regime of experimental particle physics. Learning about the ATLAS software and everything that goes into that stuff was so painful because there is no concrete, textbook-like resource for you to read and pick up on things. It wound up turning into me showing up to my adviser with 500 questions every day, about 40% of which he could answer, and I would come out more confused than before. All the while, looking for particles that I don't actually believe to exist. It wasn't fulfilling and I found myself making my office hours and teaching duties last longer and longer to avoid doing it, because I enjoyed that part of it so much more. When I realized that I enjoyed the teaching more than any other part of grad school (though classes are still always interesting to me) I realized that I should probably duck out now, and try and find a job that will pay me more than this stipend does.

I am so excited to be coming home to every person I've ever known and loved.

I'm also terrified about not being able to get a job. But I'll try my best. And I'm ready for the next stage in my life.

“Congrats” feels like the wrong word, but I truly mean it. I can only imagine what a relief it must be to get that monkey off your back. If you’re not passionate about it anymore, you’re only going to grow to despise it more as your research consumes your later PhD years. Take that Masters that you’ve rightfully earned and get on home! You’ll figure it out- I think everyone on this board is pretty confident in that, even if you don’t know what’s next ?

Programs that offer “along the way” Masters to PhD students are honorable. OSU just started it this year for my wife’s program. Before that, you could fail your final defense and walk away with nothing. You’d have 7 years of experience and a lowly stipend, I guess. But you know what I mean. My wife didn’t think it was that big a deal when she got hers recently. I told her that you never know what life will throw at you.. You could need to relocate for my work, drop out for health reasons, leave the program to attend to family, or simply have a change in passion and want to pursue something else. They can’t take that Masters away. I’m glad she got it, and I’m glad you did too!

We’ve decided tonight that it is time to put our dog down.  Making the appointment for Saturday morning.  It was almost exactly 1 year ago that we found out he had cancer.  Almost to the day.  We got to have another full year with him before it got out of hand.

Long faces in the Weave house tonight.  And probably all weekend.

I'll be home for Labor Day weekend. It'll be the first time since middle school that I'm not greeted by a big, lovable golden retriever when I walk in my parents' front door. He wasn't sick very long. I'm grateful to hear that you got that bonus year, but still saddened to hear this news. Hang in there!

With the construction going on the way home from my place of employment, it is currently taking me a minimum of 1 hour to go 11 miles. Minimum

Second traffic complaint: they installed speed bumps in my neighborhood. Nothing like making people go under the speed limit to avoid destroying their alignment.

Ouch. I don't think I know whereabouts in Columbus you are... What's your commute?

And yeah, speed bumps suck. They recently re-paved a road by me and totally tore out the speed bumps. I was ecstatic when there was a delay in reinstalling them. Except then they put them back in, and made them even bigger than before. But, joke's still on them. They're bigger, but much more elongated than before. So they're actually way smoother, and no one slows down. I'm waiting for them to make them worse again lol.

  8. @Thwomp! have you been to Saucy Brew Works up in Cleveland? I LOVE their beer, and they’re opening a location in Columbus. It’ll be just east of the Short North area/south of campus. 3rd and Michigan I think. Pint Room up by me often features their beers, which is where I was introduced. I’m pumped that they’ve been successful enough to expand into their own Cbus location.

I stayed at an Airbnb right across from their Cleveland HQ last month while I was at the MLB all star game. Best beer I had there was “What’s His Nuts?,” a vanilla stout with peanut butter. They had a barrel aged version of it on tap too. This one checked in at 11.2% but was smooth as can be. Dangerously drinkable for a beer that dark and strong.

Living out of market, I buy Centre Ice and cannot get the Nationally televised games (Canadian in my case) as they are blacked out (and I recently cut cable).  So I'm very content with less nationally broadcast games as those are the only ones I don't get to see.  Having said that, if they were better they would be put on more often so I guess I'm fine with that too hahahha.

Ha, I’m the exact opposite. I’ll happily pay the NHL.tv price, but cringe at recurring cable fees required to watch NBCSN games. I have YouTube tv for a variety of reasons, NBCSN included. But before that, I was completely cut off from cable and the national games were blacked out on NHL.tv so I just missed them.

Living out of market, I wish the Sabres had more national games.  Until the team is competing for a playoff spot, I can't justify ponying up the dough for the Center Ice package, so these national games, plus a few that sneak through on NHL Network, are all I get to see.

  11. Just saw Gabriel Iglesias live at the Ohio State Fair. I’ve never seen a full show/special from him. Honestly just clips on Facebook, probably. He was hilarious! I’ll have to watch his Netflix special now. We intentionally didn’t watch it before, just in case he refused any jokes. But it sounds like tonight’s show should be 100% unique from the Netflix special.

  12. My company does catered lunch each Friday back at HQ. I’m in a satellite office though, so we get to pick and choose our meals. Sometimes we go out, sometimes we order in. Today Doordash brought me a burrito, roughly the size of my head, stuffed with both chicken and chorizo before being smothered in queso. I may need to skip dinner....

  13. Angels had their first home game since Tyler Skaggs’ passing. They had a small ceremony, moment of silence, his wife and parents on the field for the first pitch, etc.

Then they batted around in the first, hung a 7 spot, and wound up scoring 13 overall. Trout obliterated the first pitch he saw for a 2R HR.

Trout’s first hit would prove to be enough, because the Mariners didn’t muster a single one. Two Angels pitchers combined to no-hit them. Dare I suggest it’s the first intentional “opener” no-hitter in MLB history?

    Pretty special night.

Cirelli is not high-risk at all. He's already an outstanding hockey player, and when the depth chart above him isn't clogged by two top-10-15 centers, his GAP will show it.

I would add significant assets to Risto to facilitate a move for Cirelli, and I hope Botts doesn't just look at a stat sheet and see "man I can't trade Risto for a 39 point kid." Because his ability and drive are wonderful.

I see that Cirelli got 58% d-zone starts last year. Is this a product of him being good/trusted defensively even during his rookie campaign? Or simply because dudes named Stamkos and Point get the o-zone starts and pot goals?

  15. Yeah, the “wait for it to land” rule seems to have dissipated. If all pitchers ignore it, then it’s a fair playing field. It’s better that way- more home runs ? Although the record books of years past don’t stand a chance...

We talked scalpers down to $150 yesterday but couldn’t get any lower. Decided to spend that on BBQ and beer instead and watch from bars. We have tickets to the game today but came up a day early for the atmosphere. Was pretty fun!

That's a bold statement. Given both Crosby and McDavid were IMPACT players in their rookie seasons far beyond what Dahlin has shown.

I truly hope your correct. Really I do. But once again, history shows otherwise.

Dahlin had the second most points by an 18 year old defenseman, ever. I’m curious what more you’re looking for from a position that typically doesn’t impact the game until age 21-23.

Something you and I have in common ?

BrewDog’s USA headquarters are in Columbus, Ohio. Elvis Juice is a staple at local bars. I almost went to the brewery today actually, but temperatures hit 93 Fahrenheit. Stayed closer to home to dodge the heat.

    Let’s have some fun:

To give an example: my 18th birthday was in 2010. My birthdate is the 16th. So the 16th pick that year was Vladimir Tarasenko.

    Who is yours?

2012, 22nd. That makes me Olli Maatta.

My wife takes the cake with Andrei Vasilevskiy. What a value pick at 19!

  19. I watched a lot of Ryan Dzingel down the stretch and in the playoffs last year in Columnus. I’m wholly unimpressed. He was gifted 62% O-zone starts by Torts and still didn’t do too much. He was even a healthy scratch in the playoffs at one point. Absolutely disappeared in the games he did dress.

I hope Columbus doesn’t bring him back, and I definitely don’t want the Sabres to overspend in FA on him.
