Watched Benson relentlessly cross-checked in the back at the net by one Red Wing after the play stopped…

    Not one Sabre responded.

That's not their thing.  They're skill guys mostly.  The skill guys didn't do that stuff back in the '80s or '90s either. It was always the other guys who took care of that sort of thing.  Our problem is "those other guys" don't exist on our current roster.

What makes me laugh is the idea that Jordan Greenway was supposed to improve that situation.

He is a GIANT out there and looks like a naturally very solid/strong guy.  Problem is he plays like he's 5'7"  and 160 lbs.

If he had the feistiness of Krebs, he'd be a monster.

The problem is adam's goes after people when they're on the last leg

Those are the kinds of moves you make when you're stanley cup contender And keep them for depth

Adams has zero clue how to build a playoff team

The overall makeup of our team is wrong; we have too many players that look exactly like one another in profile.

The good news is we DO have a lot of good pieces, and it should be possible to make the right supporting cast moves to improve the team overall.

Is the current administration going to do that?  NO.  Will they be fired?  We'll find out in a few days.  I predict they will NOT.

I will be happy to be wrong.

In the most important games of the season Skinner is dropped down to the 3rd line.
they have Greenway on the 1st line but, I think we can agree ,he is better suited for the 3rd line

begs the question.  What to do with Jeff Skinner in the summer ?
has a NTC, gets paid $9 for 3 more years, his defensive game is adequate at best.
he is the teams oldest forward and isn't a great example for how the game should be played to the young  players.  At least in my opinion.

He will STILL be here next year; can't afford to move on from him next season.

The year after that, things look much better.  I say he's gone after 2024/2025 season.

The guy just refused to play defensively responsible hockey, and isn't enough of a mega sniper to get away with that.

I think if I were a billionaire, the only thing that would bother me would be verbal threats or insults against my family. As a rich successful person, what could really ruffle his feathers or make him care about something that much when he has the world at his finger tips?

That depends on whether or not he is taking the Sabres success (or lack thereof) personally.  Is this is his personal mission to bring a Cup to Buffalo?  If he thinks of it that way, I can totally see this torturing him.  All depends on how he views things.

It is worth noting that he has basically disappeared from the public eye for a period of YEARS, he never makes public comments about the big picture moving forward, and he doesn't even show for home games very often.

You do wonder how invested he is at this stage of the game.

If my team was bombing towards a 13th straight year without the playoffs and I was 0 for 13 as an owner I would be mad as hell.

I would be demanding answers and demanding changes, big changes.

But we all know what is coming.

Adams back, preaching patience and how the future looks bright and that this is a process, youngest team in the league, how much he believes in the guys and that they are going with the kids again next year.

Granato will be back. Players believe in him.

Im not even sure the assistants will be turfed.

I don’t know how they think anything will change. There will be 5000 in the stands next year.

Will Adams even get mad at the end of season presser? Will he even admit none of this is acceptable?

This is basically what I wrote in the thread asking will it be possible to make the playoffs next year...why expect things to change?

The thing about Pegula is that he KNOWS just how much he interferes with the team, and how many or which decisions are coming directly from him.

You would think after this much embarrassment and failure, he would have learned by now that whatever he personally is doing is not working.

And yet he seems to be going about "owning the Sabres" the same way year after year.

I genuinely hope that the whole experience reaches a point where the most sensible decision is to move on FROM the team....sell.

He can focus on the real jewel in his ownership crown anyway, the NFL and the Bills.

Remember, this whole Sabres ownership thing was supposed to be Kim's thing, at least as I understand it.

Just sell, cut bait...hell, you'll make @ $600 million when when you do so, Terry.

    Sell!

Just an awesome result. Anything that provides clarity is a good thing.

Don was outed again. Come on Terry, you're into that sort of thing. Fire him.

I truly do not think Pegula will pay Granato to not work for the team, and he hasn't even started that 2 year extension yet.

If he isn't gone 24 hours after season ends in a few days, we'll all know where we stand: waiting for Pegula to sell before things will get better.

After those quick 3 goals in 1st period tonight, no pulling of UPL, no TO.  No yelling at team from behind bench.

I wanted Granato fired in that moment. He's out to lunch and whatever he is trying to do has failed.

Tonight is really the first time where I am really thinking this team will not be here in 5 seasons. This fanbase and franchise are dead and unless things change drastically headed towards the same fate as the Whalers.

If the franchise is going to be like THIS, let them go.  Let my Sabres life and memories die in peace.

    This is just horrible.

The team hasn't looked back since ditching EJ and KO. Hopefully Adams has learned a lesson for next year's free agency period.

Every team has veterans and cup winners, but only one can win.

The team with the best combination of talent and heart wins. No veteran can teach that.

If you're trying to discount the value of experience, confidence, and leadership, I totally disagree with you.

No need to make sweeping generalizations about life; its never simple, black and white stuff.

In the specific case of Okposo, he has been shot for a number of years now and would have been gone a long time ago if not for financial complications.

In the case of Johnson, he was just old and out of gas.  Couldn't do it anymore.  Not more complex than that.

I will never forget Craig Rivet's last season with the Sabres.  Somewhere right in the middle of the season, he went from a great but declining, long time, solid D-man who wore the C in Montreal for many years to a guy who literally could NOT keep up the pace of play.

He aged out of the game in the matter of a few weeks.  He was gone after that season.

Given reality?? No one worth a damn wants to play for Pegula. He’s meddling and cheap… Or Adams. He’s clueless and stubborn… Or, Granato… He’s in over his head and drowning.

This is a very real thing.  We rightfully have a reputation around the league as being a dysfunctional organization with a "bad" ownership situation and top candidates don't want to touch a place like that with a 10 foot pole.

I will repeat what I've been reduced to for the last 3 or 4 years: Mr. Pegula, please just sell my hockey team and move on with your life.  Enjoy the Bills and their "success" and stick to hanging out in your 10,000 sq.ft. pleasure palace in Boca.

This is VERY similar to where we all were with the Bills for a LONG TIME toward the end of Ralph's life. For about the last 20 years there, it got to a point where until Ralph died, NOTHING would change.  That was an absolute fact and history proved that true.

Until Pegula sells the team, don't expect much of a change either.

  9. At the end of LAST year I said we WOULD make this playoffs this year, and then we got the season we just got.

Without significant changes being made to how we do business, I do NOT think we make the playoffs next year either.'

What would change?  I'm assuming HC and GM remain, goaltending remains about the same, etc...

First bold -  Adams has the exact same problem with Byram as he has with Mitts.  He has to extend him too.  Lots of cap $$$ are going to the blue line.

Second bold - Yes, hard working 2 way forwards, with great hands and skills, that can play both center and wing, are not the type of player we need.

First we give away ROR and he wins a Conn Smythe.  Then Eichel wins a Cup in LV; and now Samson is busting out as a 50+ goal scorer...

When Mittselstadt helps Colorado win a Cup this year, he'll fit right in. My God., that team is loaded.

We are good at selling good players.

Adams does whatever Pegula wants him to. He manages the team for Terry. He is just a yes man lapdog at this point. He is not a GM allowed to do what he wants or thinks is best.Watch the draft Blue and Gold where he is at the draft table on the phone with Terry telling him everything they are trying to do like a little kid looking for approval from their dad. Notice how they have never been a 3rd party broker for a deal to gain an asset. There is a strict budget he has to follow.

When you have ineptitude of this caliber, the ONLY place you should ever look is at ownership.

It would be impossible for us to be this bad for this long if we were honestly trying to be the best we could be all the time as the No. 1 priority.

That's not how this franchise is being run now.  It's not how this franchise has been run for much of its history, too.

4 years of no playoffs with him, he should not be the GM of this team come next year. What more do we need to see?

This is the correct answer.  Granato should not be back either, and I have always liked Granato from the beginning.  I'm sorry he isn't the guy, but he isn't the guy.

Will either of these changes happen? No.  Why? B/c Pegula's hockey heaven concept no longer exists.

This franchise is being run as badly as at any time in its history, which is saying something.

The status quo is good enough for Pegula these days, especially given the "success" of the Bills.

    Krebs to VO and boom!

    Krebs passes and Victor shoots.

They almost seem like a natural combination

We aren't going to be able to pay EVERYONE once this team fully arrives.

Some of these guys are going to go, once we figure out who the critical core is.

A guy like Krebs might be on the inside of that, or the outside.  Too soon to tell.

After last night's game, he's the NHL's leading goal scorer on a per game basis.

What "scares" me (in a good way) about him is that he seems to have the skill to do what he does CONSISTENTLY.

There's really no reason for his production to just shut off. The guy has huge size and reach and he has already learned how to use his body as a shield like Lemieux, Andreychuk, and Jagr did...unbelievable hands and puck control...and best of all---ENORMOUS PATIENCE.

The dude should be a perennial 50 goal man.

What an unbelievable turn of events!  I had this guy written off for DEAD for several seasons after the trade..now he's making me forget about the Conn Smythe winner we traded for him.

They beat a bunch of teams who needed points. Wasn’t garbage time.

    That's true.

I've been saying for quite a long time now that we would be ready to make the playoffs in the 2023-2024 season, so still 1 more missed playoff season to go.

I still think that's probably how it will work out, but if we can put together a full season the way we played March/April, we'll make the playoffs next year instead.

It's nice going into a season thinking we might have a shot at playing right now--in the post season.

I also hope the fans of WNY go back to filling the building next year.

The group currently on the team deserve it.

Melancholy... Ill miss him... I grew up with my radio under my pillow listening to RJ with volume turned down as low as possible so my folks couldnt hear it during the early 70s... now almost 60 myself RJ has been calling games since I was 7 and other than watching TD on TV... I cant think of a more iconic voice and brought games alive for me with nothing but my imagination.

Your comments here are similar to my own thoughts on RJ's retirement.

My thoughts immediately go back to listening to him at night during games when I had a bedtime and it was earlier than the end time of the game!  My mom would let me listen in bed though.  I can still picture almost exactly my bulky transistor radio and the voice of RJ saying "Cleared but not out!".

I've literally been listening to the man call Sabres games my entire life.  So when he goes, so does a part of me in a way.

I've been fearing the day he decided to retire for years now.

I’m having a hard time picking a favorite between the B’s & Canes.  I just dislike them both so much!

I guess I’m rooting for Boston this round because of Ullmark.

I'm pulling for Boston in this one; I'm particularly looking forward to LA vs. Edmonton tonight at 10pm.

Will be switching over to TB vs. TOR in a bit.

Can't believe you would leave Allen for Jones and you won't be calling plays.

His pay probably just went up 600% and he's now going to be the boss.

For single minded, overly ambitious, completely career obsessed guys like NFL coaches, the power alone is worth the switch.

I don't think it will work out well; I don't see Daboll as HC material.

April Fool's Day? Odd choice but at least there will be a day.

If I were them I would honor him that night and then have him in the booth with Dunleavy in a true passing of the torch kind of way. Let Rick regale us with all his best stories during the game while Dan calls the (likely) dull game.

maybe get Brad May to come in and give him some sort of trophy/award/portrait/thing in that ceremony.

Not a bad idea to be honest, but a "passing of the torch" to Dan F-ing Dunleavy makes me kind of sick to my stomach.

The moment RJ retires we are going to need to start working on the "move on from Dunleavy" campaign.

I have always had no problem tolerating him while RJ remained the main man, but when it's all Dunleavy, all the time, we are going to have trouble.
