I respectfully but strenuously disagree with your assessment of Power. There is no question that he is not a banger but that doesn't mean (to me) that he is a soft player. As far as "could" be traded that description can be applied to every player on the team and in the league. People have different perspectives and evaluations on players. That's OK.

I'm curious as to why you think he is not soft.  My expectations for Power are fairly low when it comes to physical play, but he almost looks like he is allergic to touching other players.

To be clear, I don't expect Power to run guys through the boards.  But to be an even marginal defenseman in the NHL, you have to clear forwards from the front of the net, and use your body to position opponents off along the boards or in the slot (e.g. Tallinder or Smehlik).  Power struggles mightily with this, and has been caught numerous times "reaching" and being solely focused on the puck, when he should be playing the body.   What have you seen that would refute this?  And I'm asking this respectfully, because maybe I'm just missing something.  I admittedly come from a different age of hockey, where if you didn't play the body as a defenseman, it was heresy.  But I would even think in this modern age, you would still have to make some attempt, no?

I understand that this could all change, and this part of his game could develop, but ignoring this aspect of his current play would be unwise and could indicate a shortcoming.

That's kind of the point of this thread (in my mind when I started it)... when people talk about "Buffalo things", what are the things you never got involved with because it happened after you left?

I get that, but people talk about Paula’s like some Buffalo institution every time I return, and it almost gaslights me into thinking I was left out of some hidden trend.

Not to hijack things, but I always found cultural differences between Southtowns and Northtowns fascinating.  There are numerous things that are popular in the Southtowns, that a Northtown gent like myself didn’t even know existed.  I kinda thought Paula’s might be like that, and I just wasn’t “with it” back in the 80’s and 90’s to know it was there.  Same with Bar Bill.

    For the lazy:

"Other players to wear #15 for the Sabres: Colin Stuart, Dainius Zubrus, Milan Bartovic, Sergei Petrenko, Greg Brown, Randy Wood, Lou Franceschetti, Kevin Haller, Doug Smith, Chris Langevin, Adam Creighton, Geordie Robertson, Yvon Lambert, Rob McClanahan, Mike Boland, Gary McAdam, Michel Deziel, Bryan McSheffrey, Gerry Meehan."

Reading that list is a whose who of who's that?

Anyone not picking Randy Wood is simply lying to themselves.

    Randy Wood is dandy good.

Kyle Okposo and his wife organized a team bonding trip to the Jets game.

He's the heartbeat of this team. He's not the Captain we deserve but he's the one we need right now. Best Captain since perhaps 2007

He's one of my all-time favorite Sabres!  He proves that talent isn't only measured in goals and assists.

We have a pretty cool thread about who we hated to see go out the door the most from the Sabres through the years.

But who were your favorite guys brought in via trade.

    Mine were:

LaFontaine.  Couldn't stand Turgeon and absolutely thought LaFontaine was one of the top 5 players in the entire league.  That they pulled that one off was incredible.

Hasek.  Had Chicago played him rather than Belfour against the Pens, they might've been Stanley Cup champs.  Killer pedigree, just could never get the dinosaurs coaching him to give him a break.  Didn't expect him to be the best goalie of all time when the trade was made, but DID expect him to be an all-star caliber goalie.

Hawerchuk.  Couldn't stand Housely and thought Ducks was at least a top 30 player in the league and possibly top 10.  Absolutely loved that one.

Briere.  Thought he was really good as a power play specialist in Arizona.  Never impressed by Gratton.  Loved the thought of what he MIGHT become in Buffalo.  At a minimum, they needed somebody that could help the PP.  And Briere would do that.  Anything beyond that would be (and was) gravy.

Zhitnik.  Thought he was LA's 2nd best D-man and thought his ceiling would be way closer to Rob Blake's than it actually was.  Plus, he had one of the, if not the, best hockey names of all-time.  (Lame reason to love a trade, but still loved it.  Still regret never getting a Zhitnik sweater.)

So who were you stoked to see play in a Sabres uni after watching them play for somebody else?

Agree with all these, except I really liked Turgeon.  But getting LaFontaine was a major coup.  As others have noted, the Satan trade was an underrated highway robbery.

Juneau to Sabres at the deadline in 99. Joey had knocked us out in 98 in overtime. He wasn't in Buffalo long. But he was good, and Darcy was going for it.

What was he thinking though, trading a YOUNG defensive PROSPECT to try and help his team achieve a short term goal???

My people are still saying to expect big things from Alexei Tezikov!

Noon is when it starts I believe. Will be interesting to see a) who we target (probably several); b) who is interested in coming to play with us; c) how much of our space and how long we are willing to spend.

top 4 D appears the priority.

Hopefully the first thing we announce is the Dahlin extension.

Pretty much.  But now very pleased with having bought a HFC sweater for wifey last year.  Looks pretty sharp and won't see as many around the rink this year.

They are still selling all that stuff, and promoting special causes, just not wearing jerseys during warm-up.

Probably because Fedorov and Bure were better. I personally think Mogilny should be in because he opened things up for others to leave Russia, was above average etc. but who knows maybe some in the committee have ill feelings towards him *shrugs*

It’s debatable that Bure and Federov were better.  Did you ever watch Mogilny at his peak?  He was unstoppable.  I even think Federov said Mogilny was better in an interview.

Mike Vernon?  Tom Barrasso?  They should not be in over Mogilny.  Thought Turgeon might be blackballed over “ Punch Up” fiasco.

Make no mistake, they are laughing at some of our “proposals”, too

Let them laugh then. They are the ones trying to spin off their mediocrity.  Hart is worth a roll of the dice, but nobody is giving up much.  A high second rounder in a deep draft is more than adequate, with an average young goalie (UPL) going back.

Some reputable Flyers fan allegedly with connections inside the organisation.

If I were Adams, I’d hang up the phone immediately and never do business with Briere ever again.  That is a laughable request.  I guess UPL, Bryson, and our second could secure us Jiricek +?
