  1. Horrific tragedy.

We have 2 bridges across our harbour between Halifax and Dartmouth.  The older one opening in April 1955 - extensive repairs and upgrades over the years.  The 'new bridge' opened in July 1970.

We have gates to stop traffic.  We have 'rock islands' at the base of the towers at the water end (designed to take any hit from a ship - no direct hit is possible).  We also have experienced 'pilots' that board every large ship the enters the harbour that is bound for the container port beyond both bridges.  They drive the ships into and out of the harbour - probably not going to help in a power failure.  The largest ships port at a new container pier that is at the outer edge of the inner harbour and the ships do not pass under the bridges.  It is near the famous Pier 21 - where every immigrant to Canada up until about the 1970s entered the country for the first time.

We take the safely for granted.

  2. Adams was charged with cleaning up the mess.  Granato was charged with developing a young team.

Adams is doing a bang up job - now that 6K has found himself.  Granato and the young ones regressed a bit this year, but I maintain that the main reason for that was the decision to focus on the defencive part of the game.

Both will likely have next season at least and probably several more.

Sorry, I just picked the first thing I saw

You could edit and delete the linked site link.  That is goodly advice.  I think.

Obviously, we want to love playing here,” center Dylan Cozens said after practice Tuesday. “We want the fans to love watching us play here and it makes it so much easier for both sides when we just get to play good hockey at home. So we want to continue doing that and get these fans on our side."

    Yikes

He better have been misquoted in the quote.  Where did you find the quote?  Some twit in Twitter ??

Caps then Isles winning and Sabres flaming out would go a long way toward ending it.

Kinda surprised Thorny is giving up so soon. I don't see how the Sabres' spot is that much more hopeless than when he laid out his case.

Sabres have two home games against Washington and Washington's schedule is tough, for example. Wings' sked is even worse and Sabres still play them.

And if the Sabres do enough to get past both the Wings and Caps, the Isles and Devs shouldn't be a factor.

    9-2 could get it done.

The Sabres will be playing meaningful games into April.  As long as there is a mathematical chance they have as good a chance as any other team that they are close to in the standings.  There is still a lot of hockey to be played here.  Never give up.

Respectfully - it matters a lot.

"A young woman dies from cancer. Does it really matter the underlying issues that led to her incurable cancer?"

There are medical issues at play here, albeit tricky ones because they involve illness that is behavioral in nature.

It matters very much to know and understand if there are common underlying issues that led to this former enforcer's death. That knowledge and understanding may help prevent other deaths from similar causes.

I understand what you are saying.  And I agree that we do need to know if his hockey style played a role.

My point was addressing the debate in this thread between the two points that drugs and lifestyle played a bigger role than a history of head trauma and vise versa.  In that sense it does not matter to me.

If we can accurately assess what the underlying issues are we can do better as a society to prevent future players from taking their own lives.

My comment was not player based.  More a general observation.  Sure, study player deaths.  We need to be better at recognizing issues that people are dealing with and helping them deal with them.

A good friend took his life at 18.  We were in High School - set to graduate in the spring.  None of us recognized the signs.  It shakes me to this day.  40+ years later.

I’d imagine that this is a Granato call, not Adams. The coach needs to be making this kind of decision at this point.

I agree.  I never said it was KA deciding to call up Levi.  I did say that this situation is KA admitting, without saying or doing anything, to the fans, the coach and himself that his Comrie signing was a mistake.

Generally, for me, it's based on Hoopla 1 and Hoopla 2, neither of which ended with the result we wanted.

Logically it's a sound move when looking at stats. I worry about changing the tenor of things when things are going well.

The players seem to like Comrie. They would be expected to continue to play well in front of him for one freaking game. It might even be a call to arms... Win one for Comsy.

A slight worry I would have is messing with UPL's head. He is the man now and should be treated accordingly.

Also kind of unfair to Levi to throw him into this situation.

    All good points.

KA has admitted a mistake on his part in signing Comrie, who by all accounts is a great guy.  He has racalled a rockie instead of a vet with the playoff chances dangling by a thread.  He trusts Levi more, which is the only logical way to think.

It's a preasure cooker for Levi to be thrust into a literal must win game - no matter when he plays.  I am guessing he will get Vancouver.  It's a chance for him to shine and could be a motivator for the whole team.

On the other hand, it could all just as easily blow up in their collective faces.
