  1. The only thing worth watching for tonight is to see if Kucherov can hit 100 assists on the season, which is pretty dang impressive.

I just glanced at the scoring leaders and the Sabres point leader is Alex Tuch with 59 points. That ranks him #90 out of all skaters. Let that sink in, there are 89 other players who have more points than the Sabres top scorer.

Here's to hoping that this is Donny's last game.

  2. Is Power's contract one of Adam's worst moves so far? I imagine it's too early to tell and I think he's going to become a really good defensemen. I worry about the psychological aspect for Power and the expectations to perform up to the value of his contract. I really hope that aspect of it doesn't impair his development.

  3. Any non-mickey-mouse organization would have made a coaching change ages ago. Adams is going to preach consistency, a message that will fall flat.

If one were to try to justify bringing them back I suppose you'd focus on areas of improvement? Have there been any bright spots this season? If you listen to Granato he'll tell you our defense is improved, but what does that matter if you've regressed in the standings? If we play around .500 for the rest of the season we'll still end up almost 10 points worse than last year.

Is goaltending a bright spot? Anyone with a braincell knew that the 3 goalie rotation was horrible and likely hindered the emergence of UPL. This is more on Adams.

The power-play is what doomed this team, and we know we have the talent to be successful. I attribute the poor PP performance directly on the coaching.

The only reason from bringing them back is that Granato's extension kicks in next season and Pegula doesn't want to pay another coach to not coach. Again, mickey-mouse.

Reposted from another thread, but sees relevant in this one:

I think Cale Makar was kind of a unicorn when he came up and they let him run with it.  Byram came up in that environment, into a mature system, and their tone on D was set by Makar- defensemen that freely activate into the offense, and with forwards that know to backfill.

When Rasmus got here we just didn't have good coaching and the rapid coaching changes meant that the system was never settled.

Then Byram got here and I think he said, "Guys, you're making this harder than it needs to be.  Just go with the flow."  And suddenly the team feels.... different.

To expand on that a little, I think perhaps this year's early season struggles were necessary in terms of getting forwards, and the whole team really, to focus on defense, even though they sucked at it (and the early season goaltending situation made it worse).  I think the team better understands what team defense means now, and injecting Byram into the situation kind of reset the team to start pushing offensively again, to be more like last year's team, only with (hopefully) more defensive awareness going forward.

Or it's all fool's gold again and we'll suck the first half of next season too.

I've been watching Byram playing and I'm loving how he activates to the front of the net. It's upsetting that my first thought is, "I'm not looking forward to watching them "coach" this out of him"
