They don't call it that anymore.  Some Civil War era mumbo jumbo.

They are tearing down statues of General Lee, which is a knee-jerk reaction.

Lincoln wanted to have Lee command the Union forces.  The best General he had.  Lee was a staunch abolitionist and did not own slaves.  He publicly stated that he was against slavery and always was.  Lee's issue was with his home state of Virginia had seceded from the Union and he would not fight against his home state.  He was the best General in that stupid war, but ended up on the losing side only because of the blockade of Southern ports and lack of industry in the south.

    How's that for random ramblings?

Soooooooo….. literally none of this is true.  Not even remotely.  No basis in anything other than confederate apologia and white-supremacist propaganda.

I’ll link to one fairly recent article… many are available, along with copious scholarship not beholden to the daughters of the confederacy…

That’s enough internet for me today…

Why ignore the context? Do you not believe the context makes it plausible his reaction was that of someone who was triggered by 2 hours of grown adult men mercilessly booing him? Because that’s what it was, a reaction. It wasn’t unprompted. Clearly he was “gotten to”. To me it’s wildly understandable that he didn’t take the high road. The fans certainly didn’t. The fans got the exact reaction from Jack they wanted, really, that’s the funny thing. You boo mercilessly to hopefully get a reaction.

With the Cup win, with the distance and time... Jack always spoke highly of the city and community I’d imagine he’d focus on his feelings in those areas if asked in a normal environment

I’m going to put this in the same category of the Mike Weber meltdown after the infamous Arizona game.

Dude, you’re a pro athlete, and have no connection to the slobs in the seats.  They do / care about stuff that may or may not have anything to do with you personally.  Move along.

For some reason, some guys don’t get that.

Jack was asked about it directly

    Sigh.  Fine.

Not surprised he veered away from the high road, but whatever.

Great, now I'm participating in this same conversation in two threads.  boo.

Jack doesn’t have a problem with Adams. He’s got a problem with Terry. That’s my theory anyways. JE has always said reasonable things about KA. Jack was disappointed in the directions the Sabres took BEFORE KA was GM, and disappointed in ownership’s apparent willingness to allow KA to long form rebuild. I don’t think he would shade KA on his actual aptitude in rebuilding, he merely (fairly) didn’t want to be a part of it. I doubt he thinks, or cares about what the Sabres have been up to since. And in fact after yesterday I guarantee he doesn’t.

Great.  Let's all follow his example and reciprocate.

I think Jack's point is that the Sabres didn't surround him with the talent needed to win while he was here.

I don't think he was giving one second of thought to what the Sabres have done since he was traded in that answer.

That Jack is still evidently bothered enough about it to bring it up in this of all moments speaks volumes.

October can not possibly arrive soon enough...

Don't give us that.  It's your obligation to save jobs by buying everything on the planet and you know it.

I subscribed for a couple of years when it started.  Some of the long-form stuff was quite good.  But there wasn't enough content to keep me interested, and the technical glitches (I had to put in my user name and password every time, which is a pain on a phone) put me off.  I hope it survives for the people who enjoy reading and writing it...

Evidently the NFL and Premier League are their bread and butter.

The PL stuff is really, really good.  Worth keeping it for that, if you're me or similarly interested.

You know, I wonder if, rather than tanking, the last place team (or possibly lottery winner to try to prevent a race to the bottom; or maybe if there is a sustained period of futility over several seasons) could be given the option of a team "reset" that would essentially be a liquidation and reconstitution of the team.  Possibly have a "fire sale" of player contracts, with adjustment to AAV to account for underperforming players and possibly the league makes up the rest or something.  The team gets to franchise tag a small number of their players and keep them (2?  3?) and the rest are dispersed throughout the league.  Then they get to build a team back up similar to the expansion rules.

In Europe for some leagues there's relegation.  I see this as something the NHL would do in place of that.

Yes, I know it's not very feasible or likely.  Just kind of thinking out loud.

That would be fun.  I do not see the NHLPA ever agreeing to it in a million years, or the teams for that matter.

Why would the coyote owner agree to this? It sounds illegal.

Yeah, I would expect a lawsuit that the NHL wouldn't win. You can create whatever policies you want, but if they are illegal, they aren't enforceable.

Franchise agreements, be it a McDonald's in BFE or the Arizona Coyotes, are going to have language binding the franchisee to a certain set of standards, giving the franchisor (the NHL) the right to revoke the franchise if the standards are not upheld.  We actually saw an (extreme) example of this when the NBA took the Clippers away from Donald Sterling after his shenanigans hit the news.

These are, as far as I'm aware, not public, and I haven't read one.  However, the League (and every other owner who I'm sure is not fond of the revenue drain the Coyotes have been throughout their entire existence) will definitely have a leg to stand on if this reaches the point where the plug needs to be pulled.  I mean, in their opinion.  Anyone looking rationally at the situation from outside would have identified that point as having been reached several years ago.

I don't really think so. Antichrist doesn't just mean "guy I hate who did bad things"

There needs to be an element of false presentation as savior, promising wonders, winning people over with flair (pegulabucks) before an extended reign of horror

    Everything you cite applies.

Came in as the savior when the Knox family could not carry on.

Bought the team with money that he didn’t have/didn’t exist.

Oversaw incredible success (relatively) for a period.  Everyone in on it, the atmosphere incredible in ‘98, ‘99 (we’ll skip right over ‘00) and ‘01.

The house of cards it was all built upon collapses and we get NHL ownership and the resultant hot garbage for several seasons… had OSP not sensed and opportunity to flip a distressed property none of us would be here.

I’m going to give you a high degree of difficulty (I hope):

Who was the only player to wear jersey number 50 for the Buffalo Sabres?

I can give hints if it is needed.

I know it’s a goalie.  Can’t for the life of me remember the guy’s name.

  11. Jacob DeGrom having yet another Tommy John surgery.  He might have been one of the best pitchers I’ve ever seen, when he could get on the mound.

Feel for the guy, but have a feeling he won’t put another whole season together for the remainder of that very long contract he signed in Texas…

  12. 18 minutes ago, Eleven said:

But he did play in the NHL, 17 games last season.  Who gets those 17 games when three others are hurt?  The answer to that question is the player the Sabres now need to add.  Maybe it's Johnson.

I know what you mean by this but it should be stressed that AHL teams still need veterans. Look at the Hershey team that beat Rochester. If Rochester didn’t even offer Pilut an AHL contract I’ll be disappointed (pretty sure Swiss League pays more though).

Yeah, I’m sure Pilut grabbed the biggest bag, and good on him.

I just don’t think the Sabres, or Rochester hopefully, will miss him that much, once the dust clears on the off-season and we see who’s in that spot.
