  1. AHL has always had bad ref. L.V. has been having a bad year - so hopefully this will come out well. (I go to Hershey games as well (both here and in Hershey - I enjoyed wearing the chocolate and white when the bears beat the fantums. (My jersey is the throw back to early/mid 80's when Edwards was in net for the Bears...) Aside from a Ranger fan, I think everyone else I work with is a pumpkin head
  2. Really hoping they play well tonight. I only get to see them once a year - and the bragging rights would be nice! Hate the Fantums
  3. Wow - I remember Adirondack being the red wings affiliate - mid 80's maybe? I just root against everything Philly - The local coverage is so awful it actually turned me against them years ago.
  4. Many years ago I was helped by members of this forum when I would take my kids to Buffalo for games. Places to eat, Stay, park etc..If anyone is making the trip to see the Amerks game 1/18, and needs/wants any info - please let me know. I would like to return the favor if I can. As well as know my daughter and I won't be the only ones in the arena rooting against the pumkins.
  5. In Allentown (PA) - we would only get national games, Phlyer, Ranger and Islander games in the '80s. I used to record them. The Ranger game right after the Challenger blew up, Sue Britton did God Bless America. Showed it to my daughters a little while ago. Still gives goose bumps.
  6. I visit often, but I guess I am the quiet guy that only enters the conversation when I have something unique to offer. Looking forward to next week. Hope your son's game goes well.
  7. I think I come to this team in a very unique way. I became a Sabres fan in the 70's when Hershey was Buffalo's farm team. As an 11 year old I met Don Edwards, and from then on Hershey and by extension Buffalo, were my teams. Growing up I could watch Buffalo when they played the Phlyers, the Rangers and the Islanders (about half a dozen games a year). I followed through the Hockey news, and the regular news paper. I was the first in my neighborhood with directv and it was just for Sabre games. I had to order my Sabres jerseys from Great Skate, because they weren't sold anywhere around here. No one that I went to school with was a Sabres fan (and my graduating class was 714). The book "Swashbucklers on the Ice" was my favorite book. I am driving the 300 + miles next Sunday just to see the game because my wife couldn't think of anything else to get me for Christmas (sec 109, row 3 a pretty good gift I think). So yeah, I think I like following this team. I always have. My family calls it my obsession.
  8. Took daughter last night for her birthday - Wife going with me for tonight's game. It is, for the most part a nice arena. Just not in the best part of Lehigh Valley. I am minutes from this arena but I still go to Giant Center for more games (I am originally from Hershey). Best part is I can break out my "Vaive" Sabres jersey from 1990 and really confuse the people here in Allentown! We were the only two Sabres shirts in the arena last night, and I think I had to explain to 5 different people why we were wearing them.
  9. Now that there are AHL games in my back yard (I am close to Hershey, but live 10 minutes away from the Allentown/Lehigh Valley arena) I thought I'd see if any of you travel for Amerks games. I know there are a few others on here from PA, but not sure if any of you are near the Lehigh Valley. If there are, or if anyone is coming here for either game this weekend, let me know. A few years ago I was given great info on dining places in Buffalo from this board and I would gladly repay the favor. I also would strongly suggest that there are areas to avoid, especially in the area around the PPL center.
  10. I hope Karlsson bought Dunleavy dinner for all the loving he is getting back!
  11. My whole point was that it may not have been a decision made by the police that did the intake - If all he did was walk in, it would not have happened here. I was asking if he had to be transported somewhere, in which case I would have understood it. Every dept. / state is different. For a mis. 3, in my county, it wouldn't have been done. But in PA, we don't arrest for non-criminal offences, either.
  12. I have never heard of someone surrendering at a police station being handcuffed outside the station for the "arrest". Does anyone know if Buffalo has its own booking/processing at their headquarters, or if it is done in a "central/county" booking center (In Lehigh County, PA, ALL booking is done at the central booking center). If someone surrenders and is transported to booking, they would be cuffed for transport - policy, no exceptions, for us. The only time someone rides in the back for a "courtesy transport" (victim/parent etc...) the cabin camera must be on. We are very strict that way, so I could understand if they needed to abide by procedures. This may even be "walking him" to specific area of the station. All of that being said, from the booking/arrest sheets shown in the article (it says read police reports, but I didn't see any report) it looks like tres. is the highest charge. If one of the lawyers can clarify, does New York have a mis. Dis Con charge? We have both summary (ticket) dis con and mis dis con. (in PA). We wouldn't use tres. for what was described - bouncer asking him to leave, he refused. We do have summary har. charges (similar to what was described) but that would still be criminal charges, not "violations". And no booking sheet is generated (in PA) for summary charges - they are equal to traffic tickets.
  13. Original jerseys A series of 3 "carnivals" that promote player/fan interaction, so that those that travel more than five hours can make a mini vacation with their families and create fans out of the young ones (I have two daughters that attended a carnival with me in 2001 and have been fans ever since) Own sports channel. Tired of knick commercials. Oh, and ban orange from everything in the arena. Color makes me sick
  14. I would like to know if the police report says,"after viewing the tape it appears the subject grabbed...",or read s" witness/complainant/victim states..." normally, a police report is not a statement of fact, but a REPORT of what was told to our shown to the officer. I have no idea what happened (wasn't there), but what is in a police report is not meant to be taken as fact. Now if it were an affidavit of probable cause then the officer would be swearing to his beliefs in fact it is different
  15. You know you raised your child well when your 21 yr old daughter calls you at work to make sure you will be home to watch the game at 11pm on a Sat. night! - very proud father
  16. Switched my shift to 3-11 just so I could watch the game. Very peaceful and quiet when almost everyone else in the house is asleep!
  17. Just how important is it to you that every stoppage is met with screaming announcers, videos on the board, and dancing fans? After going to an AHL game last night I came to realize that the whole "game experience" has dramatically changed from when I was a kid. My family is originally from Hershey, and Wed. and Sat. meant family night at the arena. My brothers and I kept score in the programs, sat and watched the game. It was the game itself we went to see. If we even noticed "Coco", I can't remember it. I know there was a 50/50 drawing and some stick giveaways at some of the games, but contests at every (almost every) break was NOT happening. Last night, I took my 81 yr old father and 77 yr old mother to a game here in Allentown. The phlyers placed their AHL team minutes from my parents house last year and my mom kept asking what the arena was like. So, finally got seats that didn't require much walking (mom doesn't get around so well anymore), and away we went. The game was entertaining (can't get myself to root for anything remotely related to phlyers, so was forced to root for Bridgeport), but my mom's "why do they feel the need to make the game into a production show?" just floored me. She is so right. It felt like they don't believe in the sport itself being entertaining enough. I am curious as to how many others feel this way.
  18. With living an hour away from Philly, I can not stress how much I hate the Phlyers. These are nights I take off from work just to avoid people! Please, let them play as well as they did in the first two games against them this year. It makes my life so much easier. Until directv, Phlyer, Ranger and Islander away games (along with the "game of the week" on whatever channel was carrying such - USA, ESPN, NBC - whatever) were all I got to see. I will never complain about anything RJ says after having to listen to Gene Hart for 20 years!
  19. It may be a simple wording issue as to "No report", but in every department in the county I work at (Lehigh/PA) a CAD number would be generated for every phone call - not just 911, but found dog, parking complaint, etc... IF an officer is dispatched in any manor (even a point of information dispatch, one where you acknowledge the call, but do not respond (ambulance calls that are non emergency/fire calls for assistance that are in no need of police response etc...) we would have a report (IRF) number. In our case, the report is written before your shift ends (If it is a call that you respond to, barring an emergency that occurs before you clear the call, the report is written before you return to service). I can't imagine a call that is "being investigated" without at least the original "report" being written. To be even more specific, If someone calls county dispatch and says "I want to talk with an officer" and leaves a number for me to call back - even if it is our timing device calibrater- I am writing a report! "returned call from...." Now, if they said the report is not complete, or that nothing more than a preliminary report is written, I guess I could understand it better. We consider the "report" written when the "initial" narrative and "face page" (list of names, locations, times, etc...)is done. Everything else is a "supplement". I know of some departments that don't consider the report "complete" until it goes to the DA. We consider the report "open", but there is a "report". Maybe the lawyers can be more specific as to the warrants (if they seized his car) but our DA, and our magistrates, will want the "report number" (and some want copies of the face page and narrative) along with the affidavit of probable cause. I can't believe NY would not need the same - what you expect to find, where the information came from, why it is credible .... And, if any evidence is collected in anyway, it would have the report number listed - oh hell I am not even going to bring up bags/boxes and such again.....
  20. I am having a hard time understanding how they could seize his car w/out a warrant. And how they get the warrant w/out proper paperwork (no report?) I can't imagine writing an affidavit w/out writing a report. Most cases would have multiple supplements (for every action taken after initial contact, but NO report?) I know each department is different, but our affidavit form is IN our report form. Now if they said no complaint has been filed..... (still don't see the seizing of the vehicle, though)
  21. Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays to all. I hope all of you on the road or in the air, have safe travels!
  22. If i get there, and am told she grabbed his arm, and there are visible signs of injury, no choice. Not in PA. Doesn't matter who called. If i am told it was an accident and have no side telling me it was from grabbing, no domestic. Huge difference in mindset. I think what may be a huge problem is when someone would fit better in a larger city, but is working in a small one and vice versa. I have friends on Allentown (200+ officers, 100 call/day dept.) who can't believe I am "satisfied with our call volume (10/day maybe?/). I tell them , I enjoy being a "Mayberry" cop. And in contrast we have had two murders (one incident) in 100 years, they get about 1/2 month. I can spend 20 minutes at a neighbor dispute and actually talk to the people. In Allentown, they need to go from one call to another and spend maybe 5 minutes for the same type call. It matters and it reflects what the civilians see and take away from the contact. Nature of the beast.
  23. N'eo, running joke (around here anyway) is that whenever you ask someone if they have been drinking - you always get "yes, two beers" Because they only count the first and the last. I do not mean to imply that you had more, just made me laugh when I read it. I also remember the days when you could give someone a ride home and take his keys if he "had a little too much". those days are long gone. And it is not the officer's choice.
