  1. What does a captain do? would be a good place to start.

As I see it the captain's duties are in no particular order...

    1. Represent the team in the community and in the league

    2. Communicate with the officials

    3. Be a go between between the players and coaches

    4. Represent the team in the media and maybe even talk to the media behind the scenes... Hey you're being tough on this kid... Off the record he has this and this going on

    5. Communicate with teammates, put out fires, keep the room happy and in line

    6. Command and lead... Stfu we are NOT disrespecting the fans here

    7. Be an honest player on the ice. Model behavior

Does this sound like Tuch or Dahlin?

So... folks want to sign Kessel to do what exactly?

Take the roster space away from evaluating the AHLers playing out the remainder of the season? Provide a weaker shot and worse shooting percentage than VO? Provide Cup-winning experience from the 4 games he played in last year's playoffs? Fill in in the top 6 until Quinn is healthy? Be a hitter/forechecker -- he of 35 credited NHL hits since 2019-20? Be a high-volume shooter? Provide powerplay goals (17 PPG in the last 5 seasons). Win faceoffs? I'll let you look up those stats yourselves.

    Who are you arguing with?

What's "hilarious" is some "fans" who have no hope, who give up, who aren't encouraging of their supposed team. If this team is just for mocking for you, then why are you here?

I always make the distinction between franchise and team. This is probably my lowest point ever for dislike of the temporary people who make up the entity of the franchise. I still love the Sabres though and am biding my time. Because I'm the cockroach who survives the nuclear winter. The others don't make it.

Think of it as a movie franchise. People are fans of Star Wars. Many great movies and some movies that fans might judge to be not up to par. What if all of a sudden they started putting out one stinker after another? The fans would rightly mock and protest. They'd still be fans of Star Wars.

This probably applies to STHs that sell 100% of their games.

"While the letters went out only to season ticket holders who the team, through its records and research, identified as selling “the majority of their tickets/events since 2022” at KeyBank Center, some of these fans have said that they’ve been unfairly targeted."

That describes me. I live 500 miles away but I give tix to family and I go to a bunch of games but sell the rest. In fact I'm going to be at the three Sabres games in four days Mar 27-30. I already renewed and got no such message.

Hopefully the team has analytics and or good old fashioned knowledge of who their fans are to be able to target the "bad actors."

I just don’t see Captain material on this roster right now.

I suppose Ras makes the most sense off the current roster, but that seems as much an indictment of the roster as it is a compliment to Ras.  I’m just not impressed by the options.

    Truth.

I would pick Tuch, but if the coaches are unsure maybe this coming year there is no captain or they go Drury Briere.

Wait... The coaches pick? Really not sure.

If the players pick I also feel it would be Tuch. Just a hunch.

I saw Tuch in one of those Sabres community vids. He ate lunch with the poet laureate of Buffalo (possibly not the exact title) in a soul food restaurant. He nailed it and it seemed genuine. Communi cay she own.

Sure it is. It's just not a plan many like. The truth is, many FA's, both high end top 6 and bottom 6 players will not commit to coming to an organization that is not firmly established as an annual playoff contender. Trades may, and can address some roster deficiencies if there is no NTC/NMC involved, but teams that have been prolonged basement dwellers looking to climb out of said basement can and have established drafting and developing as the plan. Detroit in the late 80's/early 90's, Pittsburgh in the early 2000's, the Oilers most recently.

So to say it's not a plan is disingenuous. Just sayin PA, it's been played out in the past.

Disingenuous bc it's an opinion you don't like? This doesn't advance the discussion.

Draft and develop only is a plan? How many teams rebuild that way? No trades? No signings? Even the Sabres aren't doing that

    KA's roster construction sucks.

I have the opposite take on what these games mean than you do. In general, for most teams at this stage of the season these are meaningful games. It seems that half the teams are either vying to get in the playoffs, or even if assured of a playoff spot, are playing to improve their position for a variety of reasons, such as home game advantages. The problem with the Sabres this season, as it was last season, is that it didn't play with the same desperation/intensity in the first half of the season. When reviewing this season, it will become apparent that for the most part this team was often lackluster against teams that they were superior to, the two Anaheim games standout to demonstrate that point.  This team let too many points that were there for the taking to get away. When all is said and done, your record is what your record is. And you have to live with that.

It just seems that every time the Sabres win you diminish the win and make the assumption that the other team didn't care. And every time they lose you spotlight the loss. You may not recognize it but you are applying an inconsistent standard when the Sabres either win or lose. There isn't anyone here who doesn't recognize that this has been a disappointing season, especially when the expectations were high entering it. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't acknowledge the positive when it does happen.

You lost me at superior to another team. They are not superior to anyone. The Oilers showed yesterday they are not superior to the Sabres... Because they couldn't be bothered.

Fans can feel this way. God help us if the Sabres ever look past anyone.

Yes, he said it. So what? He's still blocking the kids. He brought in four players without subtracting any. He didn't promote any kids who haven't earned it. Those who don't like him latch onto those words and throw them out there. Again. And again. And again. Despite the fact that it's not true. It's a lie. It's dishonest. It's a narrative. But feel free to keep breaking sticks on that mutilated corpse of a horse.

Is Devon Levi all forgotten and forgiven?

    Wholly crap, yous guys.

KA likes Girgs in his own right.  Terry likes him, I like him, everybody likes him.

I scream, you scream we all scream for ice cream (and Girgs).

He is what he was when we drafted him.

He has been a very good soldier and leader of this team through the bleakest period in team history, which has nothing to do with him.  He did nothing to make it so and he has given his all to this team.

He's also a fine, perhaps very fine, young man.
