What is the point of that essay? Anyone in her could have written that! And the article did not have anything related to the title of the post. Which makes it no better than the standard click bait one sees all over the internet. 🤦‍♂️

Hoppe did not write that we should expect to see firings and trades?

    Well there’s this unforgivable comment

“I want the Buffalo Sabres in the playoffs, and I’m never going to give up, and I think we’re close,” Dahlin said prior to Thursday’s 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals in the home finale at KeyBank Center. “I think we are a really good team. I think we’re the youngest team in the league, so, well, it sucked that we didn’t get in, but we have learned so many things from this year that we have to bring into next year and get better.”

Do you think the Sabres are a really good team?

Don’t know how much it’ll mean, but Hoppe goes WAY back with Pegula. Knew him decades ago and has kept close with Terry over the years. He doesn’t trumpet it often, but he’s mentioned it before. So the article could be conjecture on his part, but he also may have spoken to Pegula and Pegula asked him not to attribute anything to him directly. We will all know soon enough if this article is accurate or not.

    Intrasting.

How does someone shoot a 74, but hasn’t applied themselves? I don’t see how that’s humanly possible.

I mean, it was an outlier. I guess what I'm saying is I could have done it more often had I applied myself. I never practiced driving, which was the bane of my game. But if I had a good day off the tee I could make some hay, bc I spent hours hitting wedges and 9 irons in a large abandoned football field behind my house that the school still mowed.

  5. Craig Stadler was a hoot. Tom Watson pure class. Greg Norman was the car accident about to happen you couldn't look away from.

This was a huge part of my life as a yout. So many wasted Sundays... Summer watching golf and fall watching the Bills.

I played and could have been pretty good had I applied myself. Shot a 74 once and had an eagle. The story of my life...

  6. GPY it's not just that the braintrust (ahem) wants the youngest teams in hockey it's that so called leaders on the team are parroting the phrase when asked to explain failure. Dahlin just did it, which disqualifies him even more in my mind (in addition to the blond hair and blue eyes and funny way of talkin').

Someone else nailed it. We don't have a captain on the roster. Maybe it's not a problem or maybe it's exactly what KA needs to be getting this summer.

He did it because he was the Rick Martin Award winner.

Anyone who doesn't think it's going to be Dahlin hasn't been paying attention.

Neither has anyone who doesn't think it should be Dahlin.

I honestly wonder if there's some weird mix of Euro-bias and people who are still thinking of 18-year-old Dahlin when this conversation happens.

He's the best player, the hardest worker, the guy who sticks his nose in the most, and the guy who cares the most.

I hope the "stand-up for his teammates" crowd was watching how that meeting of the minds at the end of tonight's game got started.

If his name Stemhavolinski and he had a five-o'clock shadow the poll would be unanimous.

    Lovely take.

"Pro sports is full of could be's" and the a Sabres are an exception of "never will be"

They got this guy right where they want him. Hard to tell if you are trolling or not b.c you probably said the exact same thing last season.

I pretty much say the same thing every season. You won't find any record of me predicting out of the playoffs or 103.25478 points.

I am arguing against hopelessness bc in the realm of sports there should be no such thing. The Sabres are bad but could easily make the playoffs next season with a little tweaking or no tweaking at all.

It's a low bar. I've hardly been brainwashed by The Cackler.

  9. The problem with this is we have all this awesomeness and it doesn't amount to much in the standings. I bet similar glistening analytical evaluations can be offered for several other Sabres.

It has to be reconciled with the eye test... Of actual games and actual standings.

It would seem to point to coaching and a losing culture.

They weren’t in a playoff spot the entire second half of last year and it was never close to mathematically likely. We had a crazy stretch to keep it merely within range during the last 10 games but that’s the CLOSEST we’ve come and it required an unsustainable stretch. “this team has been reasonably close” misses the mark for me.

I do agree things can change fast. We could make the playoffs next year. That’s always the most frustrating thing, in fact: making the playoffs isn’t hard. We could absolutely do it if they chose to prioritize the now

They are two or three wins over the course of the season from being right there. That's close enough to reasonably close for me.

I was responding to the idea there is no end in sight. It's sports. Teams can come from nowhere and have good seasons.

    It's thin gruel, yes.
