I know your feelings on this. What you propose seems excessive, but there's merit to what you're saying.
There are some dudes behind that bench who give me pause. They seem like... Jackalopes. Jackaloupes in Canada.
Full disclosure... I will enjoy their antics the next time the Sabres clinch a playoff series.

That quack? He told me to pretend the ball was my mother. And to keep my head up.

First of all, that is a tweet from a place called 12ozsports.com. They reference having multiple sources, but none of them are named. There is nothing confirming this anywhere. Not even a hint of it.
To be precise a contributor to that site tweeted it. And unnamed sources are a staple of journalism. Wouldn't confirmation have to come from the team or league?
Having said all that, it doesn't seem like there's much to go on here.
I just don't think your reasons are good ones.

There is smoke. Stories like this do not come out without reason. Unless someone shows me that owners get approached by approved buyers all the time - well then ok, I will dismiss it. But the fact the league even thought TP was approachable is so very telling based on my limited understanding on how these things work for major sports teams.
Fingers crossed. The timing is also interesting.
Did I miss the earlier reporting that there was a serious party interested in buying?

At the time, there were fans more educated than me who expressed misgivings with the pace and vibe of the practice where Skinner was mic'dup.
Turns out, they were right.
so comely.
A mini opening to express my view that a new coach should always come in with his own trainers, equipment people, medical staff etc. I am not convinced a part of the toxic, losing atmosphere with the Sabres doesn't reside in all those people who are in the ears of the players. I'd toss broadcasters, team media people, alumni in that mix.
Make a clean sweep, Berube.

For baseless rumour (h/t Smell) mongering, it got the big hitters in the media to run it down. That tells me there's smoke but maybe not yet fire. No way Wawrow et al were going to ignore the Internet chatter.
Then the news that there has been an NHL approved party interested in buying the team. Think that happens by accident? Approval implies due diligence by the league re: the interested party. Seems like a big deal.
Does the league want TP to sell? Is he not selling out of spite? Was the offer merely too low?
So while this wasn't the pants anaconda I was hoping for, my garter snake is still at half staff as I write this.
If Thorny likes this post, all bets are off.

How am I supposed to work with the old ladies the rest of the night with raging wood? They'll think I've been sampling from the med cart (again).

After watching that interview, I'm more convinced Alex is the best choice.

Tons of Sabres playoff games posted in their entirety on YT.
We pick one.
We pick one of those watch party/watch together sites that allow a group to watch the same video at the same time.
We watch. And post. And pretend.
Who's in?

Yeah. That generally ends up being the story whenever a sports writer or ostensible member of the "media" frequents this place. In addition to Hoppe, there's Wawrow and some other guy (Dylan something?) whose screen name is eluding me (he wasn't a writer, per se, but I think he was working in (or wanting to work in) sports media.)
Stebbins. I also can't remember the screen name. He's been gone for awhile. Active on Twitter.

The other thing that seemed to go unchecked was KA saying the cost of getting forward help over the summer was too high.
The obvious follow on... What was the cost of not acting? A playoff berth, innit?
Innits, go home. Little pissants.

I couldn't get through the whole thing. Did anyone ask Kevyn about The Brawndo Question... Whether he now has the freedom to spend to the cap, etc.? Mike seemed to trigger KA with a question about Terry. How dare someone mention the owner's name?
KA gave a rousing defense of Terry and he did say, I think, that Terry provides all the resources he asks for/needs. So why isn't he asking for more?
Still waiting for the day the Sabres figure out a way to let us hear the media questions. Maybe they don't want us to? Would be smart, innit?

Hat tip to @BillHoppe. He framed that write-up so carefully that I took it to mean nothing. But, in retrospect, I think he must have had the scoop.
Remember when he used to run a thread here of "Ask Bill" or something?
He didn't stay long. I don't think he felt he was afforded the appropriate level of respect.

It could be a nice spot to walk into. Someone else has done the dirty work.
Add to the mix some roster control and an idea that Terry is willing to spend and agree to stay out of it.
Great franchise tradition, fan base willing to come back with a vengeance, as close to a Canadian team as you can get etc.

Jeff Halpern Tampa Assistant as possible replacement.
The coaching tree angle is intriguing. It's the one kind of first timer that they could sell to the fans. Hey, this guy trained under a Cup winner and is in the next generation of great coaches.

So they hired a coach that they knew couldn’t get them to the playoffs? Yeah….that makes sense.
Did anyone think DG would be here for Cup runs? He served his purpose. Adams might even be relieved they didn't sneak into the playoffs.

If the internal cap was real you’d think a new coach would make sure it’s a thing of the past?
As an understanding before taking the job, yes.

They need to sell the fans on someone. It can't be a rookie coach. Not even Peca. It just can't be.
If it's Ruff, it's a very good sign. I never thought he was fired but instead wanted out when he saw the tanking handwriting on the wall.
For him to return it would mean 1. He has been assured Terry is committed to winning (read: spending) and 2. He will be given some control over the roster.
Win-win. Then win.

I don't feel anything. I thought I would be happy or excited or curious or something. I feel nothing, like why should I even care?
Because each season is a chemistry experiment. You put different chemicals in the beaker and agitate. UPL of this season next season... Some good additions... The Tage of old... especially a new coach. The beaker could blow (if an explosion is what we're looking for).
I feel you, but we've all come this far. Don't go wobbly on us. This is a good day.
Also the goddamned second sunny day in a row! Where were you last Monday?

Of course. Maybe I had a brain fart, but isn't there precedent for GMs hiring assistants?

It's odd, innit? Leave it up to the next coach? Certainly Adams wouldn't saddle the next guy. But who picks assistants?
We ARE watching a Sabres playoff game on Friday night, damn it all to Hell

I'm not going to overthink this.
We'll use the Rave-Watch Party app. Good reviews and over 50 million dloads.
The game? Game 4 of the preliminary round in 1980 in Vancouver.
If we can decide on a time I will start a GDT. I was hoping to create a fancy schmancy first post but it ain't happening. Hopefully we can crowd source the lineups, mini recaps of the first three games, context in Sabres history etc.
The Sabres were babies. Only 10 years old. They had a whale of a team that year, Scotty's first. It was kind of an Indian Summer season for the 75 finalists.
Would they finally go all the way?
