  1. I have an irrational dislike of this player. It's not his fault. It all stems from JoBa's tweet in praise of him last year - as being part of the team's future blue liners - that put me over the edge.

And Weber, that kid's from right down the street in Pittsburgh. Didya see the way he roughed up Crosby? That took guts, boy.

  2. Relax. We are never winning a cup. We just like hockey.

    Now I feel better.

I'm sorry. I just couldn't read one more post about how awesome these kids are.

It just seems like Ghost and PA aren't happy with where the franchise is, and everyone else has accepted it. Yeah prospects have a higher chance of flaming out than becoming NHLers, but that's why we have a lot of them. As for this:

OK, I got the numbers wrong. But I can't believe anyone who's familiar with the Sabres market would be surprised at the attendance last night, especially with the Reinhart factor thrown in. And — someone said it was free. The first year it was free, right?

  3. Marketing the youth movement is different from a con job that is based on marketing the youth movement.

You don't acknowledge that conditions are perfect in Buffalo for an owner who might want to abuse a fan base? The season the Sabres just had, and 9,000 people show up for a scrimmage? The lines at Taco Bell didn't get longer when it was revealed they were putting horse meat in their burritos. Sometimes consumers get what they deserve?

Agenda? Narrative? Fine. But it's also an agenda that most of the posters here present ad nauseam: that the elusive Cup is finally within our reach, now that an oil and gas man from PA and a scout from Ottawa have taken over the reins.

There's no evidence for either, just suspicion and blind faith.

  4. Knows? They had to open the 300s because attendance far exceeded expectations. But I wouldn't want facts to get in the way.

Oh wait, that's probably just fake PR to make us feel warm and fuzzy inside, right?

Do you honestly think Ted Black and Terry Pegula were surprised by the turnout?

  5. By whom? The posters who went to the scrimmage and posted their observations? Or by some sinister Pegula force determined to...what? Let everyone in for free to watch a scrimmage?

By a franchise that knows 9,000 people (usually more) will show up for a summer prospects scrimmage. If you don't think we're ripe for the picking, you're ripe for the picking.

  6. Shouldn't the Capitals be the CAPITALS?

I always enjoyed the Capitol logo for the Capitals. Just incompetent branding :)

  7. I get excited because these kids are all we've got and there is no point being a fan without hope.

    But PA's are wise words.

Risto looked like Rob Blake out there.

Has he grown that much, or is it because of who he was playing against?

    Rob Blake today or... :)

Fair responses all. I just hate that it's come to this. We don't get NHL games in the winter, we get prospect scrimmages in the summer.

It was fun to watch. More fun in that it seems we are present at the birth of something that might be big with all this competition. Take it for what it is and enjoy. Go Sabres!! :)

I let myself get caught up in Grigorenko fever at the scrimmage in 2012. The building was electric, fans were clamoring for jerseys. Not again. Not again. I just feel like we're being bamboozled here. Hope to be wrong.

  8. why does this myth continue? The team that darcy inherited was not very good. It was awful in most areas of the game below avererage in some and hall of fame great in one. You take hasek off the team and you have a team picking top 5 at the least.

You mean Muckler's team that slipped right into the conference finals in Regier's first season, and probably would have made the final had Hasek not turned into Swiss Cheese at critical moments early in the series?

What does Darcy get credit for in his first season? Well, he hired Lindy, and I'm sure a bunch of people right chere will say that in itself explains the team's run in the playoffs. With the roster, not much changed. It was the next trade deadline where Darcy really shined.

In reality, let's give Mucks and Marce their due.

  9. Unless he looks truly extraordinary, even generational, I'd lean toward sending him back down. It's a rare breed of cat who can look like he belongs in the NHL at 18, and do it in a toxic atmosphere. I wanted Grigorenko to stay up, and I'm colored by that experience. He wasn't ready/expectations were too high/his development was delayed.

Having said all that, I don't know Sam Reinhart from Sam Adams. My opinion might seem rather foolish after we see him in action.
