Jason Robertson rumored to be on the trade block
Drag0nDan replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
To shed any payroll they have to move Robertson or Oettinger. Johnston i suppose could be an option, but most teams keep young centers more than wingers. Seguin, Hintz, Heiskanen, and Seguin have full NMC's so they're all likely out on a trade. Rantanens already among the highest paid wingers in the league. I don't think it makes sense to then extend robertson and then have the two most expensive wingers in the league. Working JJP under is challenging, probably requires Dumba be included, and maybe a 3rd team for Lyubushkin. It's why it might make more sense for it to be Tuch - with rosen/Östlund, probably this years 1st, and probably next years 1st (maybe you can throw a lottery top 3 protection on it). Nuclear option would be they move both Robertson and Oettinger - and then definitely need a 3rd team to accommodate some of the other pieces that would need to be included while getting dallas NHL ready prospects, cheaper contracted players, and a goalie. Like Dallas doesn't need Byram, but what buffalo gets for byram, plus the above trade, plus levi... etc. The stuff madden dreams are made of 🙂 -
It’s so gross. What are they all doing now? They’ve all forgotten the cross checks and cheap shots days later. The regular season should start on 10/1 and end on 4/15. Four playoff series get completed by the end of the first week of June (ideally by 6/1 itself). Second week of June is the combine. Draft the final week. UFA July 1.
-
Not just the playoffs. Buffalo had the third worst third down defense for the entire season.

Jason Robertson rumored to be on the trade block

Duchene averaging a PPG is probably driving the price out of their range imo so he's probably gone. Benn's 35, and a different player than they had paid so I'd think he can be had for a team-friendly deal. Granlunds tough because they used a lot of capital to bring him and Ceci in, and he seemed to mesh with Rantanen. Ceci is also a free agent, but i suppose dumba replaces him with his return from injury. As it stands without those guys they only have 5M in cap space, with Lundkvist (I don't really know whats going on with him) and Bourque yet to pay. -
It's why I think a Peterka trade could work. They basically sign jjp for 7.25 and it covers having to worry about Robertson next year. They'll need to move some more this year but they want to keep that window open and Peterka at least gives them decent production.

I prefer players I don't have to teach toughness. Like Zach Benson, or Carter Bear

Two days between games sucks, especially when they're played in the same building.

Are there major changes coming this summer and who will make them?

Why did he trade Mitts for Byram and then admit one year later that he is still not sure how to use Byram? Same reason you trade for an oft injured player that makes more money than your best forward. Because he has no plan for what a winning roster is. Adams is focused on winning trades, instead he should be looking at the roster as a whole and with a plan on what kind of team he wants. He has no vision for a winning NHL team. He cannot define it or see it. He took Norris because he wanted to get rid of Cozens and they both were overpaid problems to their respective teams. Not because he sees Norris as a critical piece. Adams doesn't know what he is doing is the best way to say it. He really does not. Jarmo should be handling all the trades and the NHL roster make up from this point on. -
There's a whole lot of years in that list of UFAs. I know they'll want to keep some experience around, but it shouldn't be too hard to move on from maybe even 3 of them. Granlund might still get some decent money, but the rest are at that stage where if they want to win, they should be signing team friendly deals. I completely understand if they want to chase the dollars instead though.

If you're the Sabres, you only trade JJP to get a better player in return. He's the Tuch, someone else is the Eichel. At the moment, that "available" player is Roberston. If you're Dallas, you can't pay Robertson and Rantanen both 10+, even with the cap going up. But you could pay JJP 8, and he will learn to play a better all-around game or his teammates will break him -- it's a conference final contender every year.

Why do you, and so many others, feel we have to overpay on every trade? There is no reason to include #9. It skews the proposal right off the bat. -
OK, thanks. The old "agent feeds the media in order to broker a deal" routine.

To the bold: And Buffalo is (or at least was) a favored American market, just like Detroit. I imagine the league was ecstatic when Pegula purchased the team, because finally the team that refused to pay Peca, had been in league control, and lost Hasek, was finally going to spend, build an arena/facility/hotel to host tournaments, etc. This was a market that had high ratings on NBC regardless of who was playing. And then... they spent their money on Leino, Ehrhoff, Moulson, and broke LaFontaine, and announced they were tanking 2 years before McDavid and... they've gotten what they deserved. --- For LTIR, it's been obvious every season. Just schedule those surgeries and announce the timeline to return as springtime and you're good. Landeskog could've played in the regular season (and I'm glad he's back -- three seasons was too long without him), but the timing was garbage. Evander Kane, too. I don't want LTIR to be tied to on-ice only. You'd get stacked teams take on two guys who would gladly rotate. It's fine because only one can play --- but you're removing the talent from elsewhere in the league. Give me a cap floor that is close to the cap ceiling -- you want to have an NHL team, you need to spend a lot, but not too much. Flatten it so there are not any Pittsburgh Pirates teams spending way less than anyone else and just collecting the revenue sharing. If you don't want to play, then you don't get a team. I go back to: have LTIR last until 7/1 every year. Once you apply that tag, they're out until next year and you can replace them via trade or UFA, but you must be cap compliant on every pre-, regular-, and post-season day. You can go over the cap during the 7/1-August signing period. Once practice starts, you're under the cap.

Byram was the one who switched agents, not JJ. JJ's agent is feeding Frank Seravalli info about the Sabres not being able to sign him, that he's highly likely to be traded, and that the Sabres are broken and ripe for the picking in order to create a market for a better contract and/or a trade.
-
He wants warm winters, beaches, and palm trees to close out his career.
-
I want to trade JJ because I think the chances of improving the team are better down that path, than by crossing our fingers he's going to be better than he was during his breakout year. I agree the same logic can be applied to Byram and I am very willing to trade him in order to make the team better. Where the 2 differ in my mind is I think the majority of Byram's next 7 years will be better than this year and the majority of JJ's will not. I also think JJ's minutes can be at least partially replaced by players already in the organization, while that's not the case for Byram at all. It's also classless, me-first and damaging to the organization you are asking to give you $60M. It happens, but it is not standard practice. Right, just shut up and eat your gruel.
-
What exactly is his agent doing? What is the nonsense he is stirring? The rumors that JJP wanted out go back to last season just prior to the deadline and he has switched agents since then.
-
Man ... I dunno. This franchise's recent track record with trading away its malcontented young top-6 forwards is ... not good. Maybe things would be different with JK in the fold?
-
His respectability, and that of his boss, are well-earned leaguewide.

Jason Robertson rumored to be on the trade block
Drag0nDan replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
I just assumed they were moving him because they cant afford to pay him 12M AAV after 25-26. Benn is the captain and a UFA, Duchene wears an A and is a UFA, then you also have Dadonov and Granlund. You can't (and shouldn't) keep all of them, but both Robertson and Harley come up in 2026 and Seguin doesn't come off until 2027 so somethings gotta give. Otherwise they're going to struggle to ice a competitive back half of the roster. -
I'd bet you could get NYI's 1st (Schaefer) easily enough with that, plus some current pieces to stay at the cap floor and help the Isles stay compliant. Then move those. Then, re-sign Byram long-term and roll out a top-4 LHD machine: Byram-Dahlin Power-Schaefer It's just what JBott and Housley always wanted!
-
Most likely - they got his 15 team no-trade and made some calls.
-
To me, if JJP is moved then it's gotta be the big piece in a hockey trade. He has more value than Byram - who probably has a smaller list of suitors due to the nature of his game. There isn't a team in the league who doesn't listen to a call for a 30G winger.
-
I was actually wondering if Tage would be a highly valued asset if we were to ever even consider trading him. I mean, with his goal scoring abilities and on that great contract…. Not many players of his caliber are on contracts that nice.
-
I agree, I think they should trade Peterka. Given his ability on the powerplay is not great and his defense is also not great... I agree with @dudacek that there is a certain jeff skinner ish element to his game. Trading him now might be the best thing for both the team and player. If he goes somewhere with a coach that can get him to buy in on defense, he stands to improve a lot and make the sabres look silly. However, if he stays in buffalo and it is more of the same (likely with no change of coach), I'm not sure that's a player that you want to hitch yourself to long term with a massive contract. You should be getting a really good return for Peterka, so look for a trade that can either substantially improve our defense, our goalie situation, and/or our powerplay. If you can fix at least one of those things immediately with this trade, it should be a no brainer
