‘Meehan is perhaps best known in Buffalo for being the general manager to wrangle the defection of Alexander Mogilny during the World Championships in Sweden in 1989, and for making massive trades to acquire future Hall of Famers Dominik Hasek, Pat LaFontaine and Dale Hawerchuk. Those moves set up the Sabres for great success in the 1990s and were largely responsible for Meehan earning induction into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.’
