Sabres’ Eichel leads a come from behind win over Toronto

‘The Sabres were up against arguably the worst goaltender in the NHL in Michael Hutchinson, yet five minutes into the second, they hadn’t scored on him. Toronto has no salary cap room for a decent backup goalie so they’re basically going with an AHL goaltender when Freddie Andersen needs a rest.’

5 Observations: Sabres hang on with 6-4 win over Maple Leafs

‘Jack Eichel is having himself a season and there’s still more games to be played.’

Sabres Score 4 Goals In 2nd, Comeback to Defeat Leafs 6-4

‘Toronto scored to pull within a goal again midway through the period, but Eichel would net his second of the game with the empty netter to seal the victory for the Sabres.’

Eichel, Sabres defeat Maple Leafs, hand Keefe first loss as NHL coach

‘”It’s always fun to win on home ice, and we hadn’t beat them in a while, so it’s good to get the two points, and I think we needed it as a group as well,” said Eichel, who extended his point streak to eight games (eight goals, seven assists). “Good contributions up and down the lineup starting with our goaltender, who I thought played tremendous.”‘

Eichel excels on both ends of the ice in Sabres’ win over Leafs

‘”I was most excited about his last couple of minutes, how he came to play without the puck, how hard he defended when they pulled the goalie out,” Krueger said. “He did put one in the empty net, but it was the work he did before that I think that shows Jack is maturing right in front of our eyes.”‘

At the Horn: Maple Leafs 4 – Sabres 6

‘Jimmy Vesey was credited with the game winner 8:34 into the third period. Jeff Skinner, Victor Olofsson and Casey Mittelstadt also scored for Buffalo. Eichel picked up two goals and an assist for his ninth multi-point game of the season.’

Sabres looking to avoid dubious slice of history against Leafs

‘A loss in Friday afternoon’s matinee against the Leafs downtown would be Buffalo’s sixth straight against Toronto, something that has never happened since the Sabres entered the NHL in 1970.’

Sheldon Keefe has had immediate impact behind Leafs’ bench

‘”He’s personable, likes to get feedback from the players,” said Leafs center Auston Matthews. “Everybody is different. I don’t know how much we can go on with comparisons and differences, but no coach is the same. We’ve got a new coach now and things are going to be different. You’ve got to move forward and expect changes.”‘

Sabres prospect Rasmus Asplund quickly acclimating to NHL

‘“They called me up for a reason and they thought I was ready, and that’s what it feels like,” Asplund said following Thursday’s practice inside KeyBank Center, where the Sabres begin a home-and-home set Friday afternoon against the Toronto Maple Leafs.’
