Hot streak ends in a N.Y. minute

‘The game was supposed to be a playoff-like test for the Sabres, and they never even took out their No. 2 pencils.’

Campbell, Spacek have a bad day

‘The Sabres defenseman and his blue-line partner, Jaroslav Spacek, were on the ice for all four New York Rangers goals in the first period of Saturday’s 5-1 dismantling. It’s nearly impossible to be minus-4 after just 20 minutes of play, but Campbell and Spacek accomplished it.’

Campbell, Sabres edge closer to trade deadline

‘Really, there’s no reason to have another conversation unless both sides are willing to make major concessions. The Sabres would need to leap into the $6 million per year range, at least, which would mean Campbell taking a considerable discount. All told, the difference in dough between Campbell’s offseason proposal and his current value is at least $5 million, perhaps $7.5 million, maybe more, spread over five years.’

Sabres add green team to the mix

‘Exactly one month before St. Patrick’s Day, Buffalo Sabres players will sport a bit o’ the green today when they take to the HSBC Arena ice wearing specially designed “Sabres Green Team” stickers on their helmets.’

NY Rangers 5, Buffalo 1

‘Miller unexpectedly got most of Saturday off, pulled after the Rangers went up 4-0 after just 12:25 of play. It was his first regulation loss since Jan. 19, before an 8-0-1 run. Jocelyn Thibault, who hadn’t played since Feb. 1, stopped 20 of 21 in relief.’

NY Rangers 5, Buffalo 1

‘”You get beat, you have to give them credit,” said Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff. “They won the battles. They won it skating and they won the small battles. They looked like a real fresh team. I thought they skated well all night.”‘

Quick Start Leads Rangers To 5-1 Win

‘The Rangers got on the board about as early as possible on a goal by Sean Avery just ten seconds into the game. Then New York completely blew the game open scoring three more times in the next twelve minutes with goals from Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky and Brendan Shanahan. Ryan Miller was pulled after the fourth goal for Jocelyn Thibault.’
